Eremurus species have been used to treat various diseases and possess a variety of pharmacological activities in vitro and in vivo. The present review summarizes the phytochemistry and pharmacology of Eremurus species to describe their therapeutic potential against a range of diseases. All available information on Eremurus species was collected via an electronic literature search in PubMed, Scopus, SciFinder, Embase and Science direct databases from 1975 until the beginning of 2022. Phytochemical investigations have revealed that Eremurus species have a wide range of metabolites including anthraquinones, coumarins, terpenoids, flavonoids and naphthalene. The most important pharmacological activities are antioxidant, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, cytotoxic and gastroprotective effects. Eremurus species have been traditionally used for the treatment of jaundice, liver disorders, pimples, dermal infections, diabetes and hyperlipidemia. Future studies are recommended to bend these gaps and pave the way for the possible therapeutic application of Eremurus plants in the clinical setting.}, keywords = {LOCALIZATION; PHARMACOLOGY; PLANTS; ANTIBACTERIAL; ANTIOXIDANT; extracts; phytochemistry; CHEMICAL-CONSTITUENTS; traditional medicine; Plant Sciences; Eremurus; SPECTABILIS; PERSICUS}, year = {2022}, eissn = {1876-7486}, pages = {142-149} } @article{MTMT:31682651, title = {Auraptene and umbelliprenin: a review on their latest literature acquisitions}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/31682651}, author = {Fiorito, Serena and Preziuso, Francesca and Sharifi-Rad, Majid and Marchetti, Lorenzo and Epifano, Francesco and Genovese, Salvatore}, doi = {10.1007/s11101-020-09713-5}, journal-iso = {PHYTOCHEM REV}, journal = {PHYTOCHEMISTRY REVIEWS}, volume = {21}, unique-id = {31682651}, issn = {1568-7767}, year = {2022}, eissn = {1572-980X}, pages = {317-326} } @article{MTMT:33404717, title = {Oxyprenylated Secondary Metabolites as Modulators of Lipid and Sugar Metabolism}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33404717}, author = {Fiorito, Serena and Epifano, Francesco and Marchetti, Lorenzo and Palumbo, Lucia and Orhan, Ilkay Erdogan and Sharifi-Rad, Majid and Genovese, Salvatore}, doi = {10.2174/1568026621666210727163038}, journal-iso = {CURR TOP MED CHEM}, journal = {CURRENT TOPICS IN MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY}, volume = {22}, unique-id = {33404717}, issn = {1568-0266}, abstract = {O-Prenylcoumarins (3,3-dimethylallyl, geranyl-, farnesyl- and related biosynthetic derivatives) represent a class of rarely occurring natural compounds. Most of these secondary metabolites have been obtained from plant species belonging to the Rutaceae, Apiaceae, and Fabaceae families, and from fungi, and bacteria. In the last two decades, prenyloxycoumarins have been found to possess great potential in terms of pharmacological activities. The aim of this comprehensive review is to make a survey of the so far reported literature citations about these valuable phytochemicals and structurally related compounds about their modulatory properties of lipid and sugar metabolism. Literature data have been acquired from the main Internet database. Several oxyprenylated secondary metabolites have been surveyed. Among these, prenyloxycoumarins represented the main group displaying valuable effects as modulators of lipid and sugar metabolism. The title phytochemicals have been found in common fruits and vegetables already known to have beneficial effects, thus enforcing the nutraceutical role of these food plants. In this study, the mass attenuation coefficients and empirical and theoretical effective atomic numbers of Eremurus-Rhizophora spp. particleboards in three particle sizes and two adhesive treatment levels were evaluated in 16.63-60 keV photon energy range, using theoretical (XCOM: NIST Photon Cross Sections Database Code), simulation (MCNPX: Monte Carlo N-Particle eXtended Code), and experimental methods. The findings of this study were discussed in terms of the various calculating approaches, and also comparing them with raw wood, binderless particleboard, water, and different breast tissues. The mass attenuation coefficients of Eremurus-Rhizophora spp. samples were seriously agreed with young age breast tissue in three determination methods. Although the empirical effective atomic number (Z(eff)) is independent of photon energy and the theoretical Z(eff) is affected by it, the empirical and theoretical effective atomic numbers of the Eremurus-Rhizophora spp. particleboards are in good agreement in the mammography photon energy range. Moreover, the results of this study showed that the radiation features of Rhizophora spp. particleboard can be significantly improved by adding the Eremurus spp. root. The results prove the validity of the MCNP method as an alternative to the XCOM and experimental methods for evaluating the attenuation features and effective atomic numbers of the bio-composites.}, keywords = {Monte Carlo simulation; XCOM; Effective atomic number; Mass attenuation coefficient; Eremurus spp.; Rhizophora spp.; Tissue-equivalent materials}, year = {2022}, eissn = {1878-4224} } @article{MTMT:33404719, title = {Inhibitory effects of aqueous extract of Eremurus spectabilis M. There is increasing interest in these substances due to their protective/therapeutic potential. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the inhibitory potential of aqueous extract of Eremurus spectabilis M. Bleb. on diabetes mellitus and skin-related enzymes.Methods: Fresh E. spectabilis leaves were obtained from a local market in Eyup/Istanbul, Turkey and their aqueous extract was prepared. Inhibitory activities of the aqueous extract of this plant on alpha-amylase, -glucosidase, elastase, hyaluronidase, and tyrosinase were examined.Results: The aqueous extract of E. spectabilis showed effective inhibitor activity against both alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase as compared to acarbose. On the other hand, the aqueous extract exhibited a moderate inhibitory activity on elastase. Whereas, it exhibited a weak inhibitory effect on the activities of hyaluronidase and tyrosinase when compared to their respective standard inhibitors.Conclusion: The current findings suggest that the consumption of E. spectabilis leaves may be of benefit for regulation of postprandial blood glucose, as shown by the strongly inhibiting action of its extract on both a-amylase and alpha-glucosidase. In addition, it might be beneficial against skin-related disorders, because of its inhibitory action on elastase activity.}, keywords = {diabetes mellitus; Inhibitory activity; Eremurus spectabilis; Skin-related enzymes}, year = {2021}, eissn = {2587-2087}, pages = {357-364} } @article{MTMT:32183375, title = {Evaluation of antioxidant and anti-ulcerogenic effects of Eremurus persicus (Jaub & Spach) Boiss leaf hydroalcoholic extract on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in rats}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32183375}, author = {Beiranvand, Mohammad and Bahramikia, Seifollah and Dezfoulian, Omid}, doi = {10.1007/s10787-021-00868-x}, journal-iso = {INFLAMMOPHARMACOLOGY}, journal = {INFLAMMOPHARMACOLOGY}, volume = {29}, unique-id = {32183375}, issn = {0925-4692}, year = {2021}, eissn = {1568-5608}, pages = {1503-1518}, orcid-numbers = {Bahramikia, Seifollah/0000-0002-9482-6828} }
