This study sought to explore professionals' experiences of delivering care to immigrants in districts densely populated with immigrants across Europe. METHODS: Forty-eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with mental health care professionals working in 16 European countries. Professionals in each country were recruited from three areas with the highest proportion of immigrants. For the purpose of this study, immigrants were defined as first-generation immigrants born outside the country of current residence, including regular immigrants, irregular immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees and victims of human trafficking. Interviews were transcribed and analysed using thematic analysis. RESULTS: The interviews highlighted specific challenges to treating immigrants in mental health services across all 16 countries including complications with diagnosis, difficulty in developing trust and increased risk of marginalisation. CONCLUSIONS: Although mental health service delivery varies between and within European countries, consistent challenges exist in the experiences of mental health professionals delivering services in communities with high proportions of immigrants. Improvements to practice should include training in reaching appropriate diagnoses, a focus on building trusting relationships and measures to counter marginalisation.}, keywords = {Adult; Female; Middle Aged; Male; Humans; CULTURE; Europe/epidemiology; Professional-Patient Relations; Health Personnel/*psychology; *Attitude of Health Personnel; Cultural Competency; Interviews as Topic; Patient Acceptance of Health Care; Trust; Mental Health Services/*organization & administration; Qualitative Research; Communication Barriers; Transients and Migrants/psychology/statistics & numerical data; Refugees/psychology/statistics & numerical data; Mental Disorders/*ethnology/*therapy; Emigrants and Immigrants/*psychology/statistics & numerical data}, year = {2013}, eissn = {1433-9285}, pages = {105-116} } @article{MTMT:25207570, title = {Determinants of the spatial distribution of foreign employees on different skill job positions: The case of the Czech republic}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/25207570}, author = {Schovánková, S}, doi = {10.2478/danb-2013-0006}, journal-iso = {DANUBE}, journal = {DANUBE: LAW AND ECONOMICS REVIEW}, volume = {2013}, unique-id = {25207570}, issn = {1804-6746}, year = {2013}, eissn = {1804-8285}, pages = {115-139} } @{MTMT:27407084, title = {Bevezetés}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/27407084}, author = {Göncz, Borbála and Lengyel, György and Tóth, Lilla}, booktitle = {Bevándorlók a magyar társadalom tükrében : Méltóság, igazságosság és civil integráció [Migrants and the Hungarian Society : Dignity, Justice and Civic Integration]}, publisher = {BCE; Corvinus University of Budapest}, unique-id = {27407084}, year = {2012}, pages = {7-16} } @{MTMT:25224143, title = {Introduction}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/25224143}, author = {Göncz, Borbála and Lengyel, György and Tóth, Lilla}, booktitle = {Migrants and the Hungarian Society}, publisher = {BCE; Corvinus University of Budapest}, unique-id = {25224143}, year = {2012}, pages = {7-15} } @article{MTMT:25228902, title = {Time and Context in the Relationship between Acculturation Attitudes and Adaptation among Russian-Speaking Immigrants in Finland and Israel}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/25228902}, author = {Inga, Jasinskaja-Lahti and Gabriel, Horenczyk and Tamara, Kinunen}, doi = {10.1080/1369183X.2011.623617}, journal-iso = {J ETHN MIGR STUD}, journal = {JOURNAL OF ETHNIC AND MIGRATION STUDIES}, volume = {37}, unique-id = {25228902}, issn = {1369-183X}, year = {2011}, eissn = {1469-9451}, pages = {1423-1440} } @article{MTMT:1124559, title = {Relationships between international tourism and migration in Hungary. tourism flows and foreign property ownership}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/1124559}, author = {Illés, Sándor and Michalkó, Gábor}, doi = {10.1080/14616680701825271}, journal-iso = {TOUR GEOGR}, journal = {TOURISM GEOGRAPHIES: AN INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF TOURISM SPACE PLACE AND ENVIRONMENT}, volume = {10}, unique-id = {1124559}, issn = {1461-6688}, year = {2008}, eissn = {1470-1340}, pages = {98-118} }
