In recent decades, there has been a growing interest in the contribution to Sustainable Development Goals on the part of governments, companies, and stakeholders. In this sense, transport can contribute to the sustainability of cities and facilitate other social objectives, such as universal accessibility, with innovation being a key pillar for this. Thus, the main objective of this study is to analyze users’ perceptions of the innovation and sustainability of public transport in Spain. The study employs a longitudinal panel data sample of 132 automotive companies, using a dynamic Generalized Method of Moments model. The analysis examines the relationship between CSR ratings and yearly financial performance, taking into account various control variables. The results of the analysis suggest that there is a non-linear, U-shaped relationship between CSR and FP. The direction of this relationship (positive or negative) is dependent on the level of CSR engagement. This means that CSR activities do not immediately yield benefits, but instead provide advantages once a certain level of CSR has been reached. The study also finds that the impact of CSR on FP is positively moderated by technological innovation. This indicates that firms with higher levels of investment in technology benefit more from CSR activities in terms of their financial performance. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature. Moreover, big data analytics adoption intention (BDAAI) is used as a moderator between green innovation and green competitive advantage. The structural equation modeling (SEM) technique is used. Simple random sampling is used for data collection. The results explain that CSR and green intellectual capital significantly determine green innovation and green competitive advantage. Moreover, green innovation mediates between CSR, green intellectual capital, and green competitive advantage. Green innovation and BDAAI significantly determine green competitive advantage. Finally, BDAAI moderates between green innovation and green competitive advantage. The management can use CSR, green intellectual capital, green innovation, and BDAAI in decision-making to attain a green competitive advantage. This is an initial study that incorporates CSR, green intellectual capital, green innovation, and BDAAI to determine green competitive advantage by using a natural resource-based view (natural RBV). A kilencvenes évektől a tradicionális államközpontú, biztonságpolitikai megközelítés ellenpontjaként megjelentek a humán-, illetve a személyes biztonság létjogosultságát hangsúlyozó paradigmák, amelyek a biztonságot szubjektív, percipiált érzésként definiálják. A pszichológiai biztonság, valamint az ontológiai biztonság összetevői a fent leírt változások nyomán kerültek a tudományos érdeklődés fókuszába. A tanulmány célja, hogy képet adjon arról, hogyan ítélik meg a fogyasztók a vállalatok általános biztonságérzethez való hozzájárulását, milyen a biztonsághoz köthető feladatokat várnak el a gazdasági szereplőktől, és miként viszonyulnak a vállalatok ezen a területen nyújtott teljesítményéhez. A szerzők elemzésük eredményként felállítják a fogyasztók ontológiai biztonságának modelljét, amelybe az egyéni szociopszichológiai jellemzők és a makrokörnyezeti elemek mellé, beemelik a vállalati teljesítmény megítélésére vonatkozó dimenziót, amely tényező lehetséges összetevőit kvantitatív, primer kutatás során vizsgálják. Therefore, all segments of society must act together to stop the deterioration of the planet and the depletion of its resources. The business sector must play an active role in acting responsibly toward the environment. Given the importance of this issue, major efforts have been made to analyze the environmental performance of the most polluting sectors. In contrast, other sectors that are also of great interest due to their contribution to sustainable development, such as the banking sector, have been overlooked. Notable factors conditioning performance include aspects of corporate governance such as gender diversity. However, the empirical evidence reveals a lack of consensus regarding the influence of women directors on corporate environmental performance. This background motivates the study of the commitment of the banking sector to reducing their environmental impact and the analysis the influence of board gender diversity on environmental performance. Data for the period 2009 to 2018 on 52 banks from the most polluting Western regions were studied using descriptive statistics and fixed effects econometric estimation to test the relationship between a selection of relevant variables. The key conclusions are that banks are committed to protecting the environment and that there are no significant differences between banks' commitment to the planet on the basis of board gender diversity. Furthermore, this applies organizational capabilities as moderating variables between environmental strategies, ecological sustainability and sustainable performance in a sample of 373 construction firms. Design/methodology/approach The authors apply quantitative questionnaire data from construction firm representatives (from project, sales and construction managers and contract managers, executive directors and engineers) to structural equation modeling and SmartPLS for our analysis. Findings The results demonstrate that recourse to environmental MCS packages significantly influence ecological sustainability, sustainable performance and environmental strategies. Additionally, environmental strategies and organizational capabilities significantly influence ecological sustainability and sustainable performance. Moreover, environmental strategies mediate between environmental MCS packages, ecological sustainability and sustainable performance. Organizational capabilities significantly moderate the relationship between ecological sustainability and sustainable performance. Practical implications This research highlights the issue of how the management of construction organizations deploy environmental MCS packages, organizational capabilities and business strategies to measure ecological sustainability and improve their sustainable performance. This study fills a gap in the literature and facilitates the management of construction organizations in strengthening their internal resources in terms of environmental MCS packages, environmental strategies and organizational capabilities able to help improve their ecological sustainability and sustainable performance. Originality/value There are few studies building theoretical frameworks for incorporating environmental MCS packages, organizational capabilities, environmental strategies, ecological sustainability and sustainable performance into a single study. Although the influence of various types of intangible resources on ecological sustainability and sustainable performance receive considerable examination in the literature, there is a dearth of attention paid to understanding the role of environmental MCS packages, environmental strategies and organizational capabilities in determining the ecological sustainability and sustainable performance of construction organizations.
