The drying kinetics and drying quality of turnip slices obtained using the proposed solar drying equipment and via natural drying were compared and analyzed along with the energy provided and required for turnip drying using a solar dryer. The results reveal that the turnip drying time is shorter when using the solar dryer than when using natural drying. The moisture content on dry basis of the turnips decreased to 0.197 from 20.370 using the solar dryer. However, when subjected to natural drying, the moisture content on dry basis took more time to dry from a moistire content of 21.320 to 0.250. The Midilli and Kucuk model was deemed appropriate for depicting the turnip slices' drying using solar drying equipment and via natural sunlight. Furthermore, the dried turnips obtained via natural drying and using the solar drying system exhibited the highest and lowest values of total colour difference, respectively. Following open sun drying, scanning electron microscopy revealed some obvious molds on the surface of the turnip cells, and the turnip cells were subsequently destroyed. The drying quality of turnips attained via open sun drying was severely reduced. This experimental study analyzed the interface influence on the drying and wetting processes of ceramic blocks with perfect contact interface at different interface highs. The results showed an increase in the dry time constant for the materials with perfect contact interface compared to the monolithic materials, and the study found that the farther away from the base the interface is located, the greater is the drying time constant. The interface could significantly retard the moisture transport, i.e., the discontinuity of moisture content across the interface indicated that there was a difference in capillary pressure across the interface. An experimental study of solar drying kinetics of industrial tomato pomace was conducted to test the performance of the new solar dryer as a waste processing dryer. The drying temperature of the tomato waste, using this type of dryer, varies between 40 and 58 degrees C. The duration of the drying operation for a final product is only 5 h. Five new universal and dimensionless models and five different drying models chosen from the literature were evaluated in order to select the model that better fits the experimental data generated during the drying process. Among the different models tested, it emerged that the new model2 was the most suitable to describe the drying process of tomato waste. Also, the diffusion coefficient and the activate energy were studied and determined. The effective diffusivity varies between 3.2E-9 and 4.7E-10 m(2)/s with activation energy is 75.6 kJ/mol.
