This window is significantly wider than the previous one achieved using n = 4 odd parity RMPs, which is around q(95) = 3.7 +/- 0.1. Here, n represents the toroidal mode number of the applied RMPs and q(95) is the safety factor at 95% of the normalized poloidal magnetic flux. During ELM suppression, there is only a slight drop in the plasma stored energy and density (<= 10%). The comparison of changes in the pedestal profiles suggests that ELM suppression is achieved when the pedestal gradient is kept lower than a threshold. This wide q(95) window for ELM suppression is consistent with the prediction made by MARS-F modeling prior to the experiment, which located it at one of the resonant q(95) windows for plasma response. The Chirikov parameter taking into account plasma response near the pedestal top, which measures plasma edge stochasticity, significantly increases when q(95) exceeds 4, mainly due to the denser neighboring rational surfaces. The modeling of plasma response reveals a strong coupling between resonant and non-resonant components across the pedestal region, which is a characteristic of the kink-peeling like response observed during RMP-ELM suppression in previous studies on EAST. Four probes are connected in quadrature and energized to drive non-axisymmetric currents through the edge of the tokamak, creating magnetic perturbations comparable to previously-studied saturated kink modes or resonant magnetic perturbations that are generated by an external control coil array. Measurements of the magnetic perturbations from the probe-injected currents determine a set of current-carrying helical filaments used to model active feedback control of resistive wall modes. These experiments suggest current-injection feedback may be an effective alternative to external control coils for control of RWMs and other long-wavelength kink-like modes at the edge of tokamaks.}, Rapid progress is being made in project construction, and the facility is now taking shape at St-Paul-lez-Durance in southern France. In the course of designing and manufacturing of the systems making up the ITER tokamak and the ITER facility, extensive ground-breaking R&D has been implemented by the ITER partners across a wide range of technology and science areas which underpin the achievement of the project's engineering and fusion plasma performance requirements. Significant developments have been made in the production of high performance Nb3Sn superconducting strand and in magnet technologies supporting the construction of the largest superconducting magnets produced to date. High heat flux plasma facing components have been fabricated which are capable of sustaining quasi-stationary heat loads of up to 10MWm(-2) and transient loads of up to 20MWm(-2). Fusion nuclear technologies such as remote maintenance and tritium breeding have received specific emphasis within the ITER R&D program, since extensive deployment of these technologies is foreseen. Diagnostic systems face particular challenges in the ITER environment, and wide-ranging R&D activities have been implemented to develop novel solutions to ensure an adequate measurement capability in ITER DT operation. Routine and reliable operation in ITER will require a highly effective capability for the detection, avoidance and mitigation of disruptions, and significant science and technology R&D is underway to establish this capability. The overall integration of the control requirements for the ITER plasma and facility, in particular during burning plasma operation, has presented new challenges for fusion control systems, including the need for robust safety and hardware (investment) protection. These challenges are being addressed via the implementation of the most extensive and ambitious control system to date. Wavelengths, oscillator strengths, electric dipole, electric quadrupole, magnetic dipole, and magnetic quadrupole emission transition rates regarding these levels are obtained. The Flexible Atomic Code (FAC) calculations are further performed to support these data. Results are compared with other available theory reported in the literature as well as the recommended experimental data listed in the Atomic Spectra Database (ASD) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) online database. Satisfactory agreement is found between them. Along with the state-of-the-art description of this approach, the emphasis will be on the evaluation of cross sections for a carbon dimer, C-2, and trimer, C-3. Single-differential ionization cross sections as a function of secondary or ejected electron energy and averaged secondary electron energy for C-2 and C-3 are calculated at fixed impinging electron energies of 100 and 200 eV. The integral ionization cross sections are also derived from ionization threshold to 2000 eV. Extensive comparisons of the presently evaluated direct ionization cross sections with the only available theoretical binary-encounter-dipole model calculations of Kim and Rudd, spherical-complex-optical-potential model calculations of Nagama and Antony, DM model calculations of Deutsch and Mark, and the calculations of Michelin et al. based on the combination of the Schwinger variational iterative method and distorted wave approximation revealed a satisfactory agreement. Following a short introduction to tokamak physics and the fundamentals of steady state operation, later chapters cover parallel and perpendicular transport in tokamaks, MHD instabilities in advanced tokamak regimes, control issues, and SOL and divertor plasmas. A final chapter reviews key enabling technologies for steady state reactors, including negative ion source and NBI systems, Gyrotron and ECRF systems, superconductor and magnet systems, and structural materials for reactors. The tokamak has demonstrated an excellent plasma confinement capability with its symmetry, but has an intrinsic drawback with its pulsed operation with inductive operation. Efforts have been made over the last 20 years to realize steady state operation, most promisingly utilizing bootstrap current.
