We discuss the existence of positive global solution and provide the estimate on the lower bound of the Lyapunov exponent. Moreover, we show that the nontrivial equilibrium solution is mean square exponential stability and stable in probability. We prove several results using techniques of stochastic calculus. It is evident from the obtained conditions that the noise plays an important role in all qualitative properties of the solution. Numerical simulations are also provided in order to validate the analytical findings. If satisfied, they guarantee monotone decay (i.e., non-oscillatory regime) of the velocity fluctuations towards zero for large times. For the simplified setting with only two agents and constant communication rate the Cucker-Smale system reduces to the delay negative feedback equation. We demonstrate that in this case our method provides the sharp condition for the size of the delay such that the solution be non-oscillatory. Motivated by this, we study the impact of DAF on the classical car-following model (CCFM). First, we show that DAF shrinks the locally stable region. We then show that the resulting model, similar to the CCFM, loses local stability via a Hopf bifurcation. However, DAF decreases the amplitude and increases the frequency of the resulting limit cycles. Additionally, we show that DAF is detrimental to the CCFM due to destruction of the non-oscillatory property of its solutions, increased risk of string instability and reduced resilience towards parametric uncertainty. Thus, we report a relevant application wherein DAF degrades the performance across several metrics of practical interest. Thus, our work motivates a systematic study of controllers that can guarantee performance enhancement.
