The importance of civil organizations is also stressed by the European Union's environmental policy, as indicated by, for instance, the Sixth Environmental Action Plan, which was accepted in 2002. Nevertheless, the common understanding of how non-governmental organizations may influence corporate environmental behavior, especially that of small and medium-sized enterprises, remains limited. This paper presents the results of research examining the relationships between non-governmental organizations and businesses based on the stakeholder theory of the firm. The results show that small and medium-sized enterprises rank the importance of different stakeholders similarly to larger businesses and often engage in cooperation with non-governmental organizations. It is also demonstrated that cooperative strategies constitute an important and effective component of non-governmental organizations' behavior toward businesses and that the indirect influence of the civil sector is as important as its direct impact. The results contribute to the development of the stakeholder theory of the firm and help inform practical decision makers about how to improve relationships between business and non-governmental organizations.}, keywords = {Planning; Decision theory; COOPERATION; decision making; Societies and institutions; environmental protection; Sustainable development; Economic and social effects; Small and medium-sized enterprise; Corporate sustainability; Stakeholder theory; Nongovernmental organizations; Corporate-sustainability; Stakeholder multiplicity; Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)}, year = {2015}, eissn = {1879-1786}, pages = {18-31}, orcid-numbers = {Harangozó, Gábor/0000-0003-2189-005X} } @inbook{MTMT:2604077, title = {Sustainability Management in Hungary}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/2604077}, author = {Csutora, Mária and Kerekes, Sándor and Tabi, Andrea}, booktitle = {Corporate Sustainability in International Comparison}, doi = {10.1007/978-3-319-06227-3_8}, unique-id = {2604077}, year = {2014}, pages = {105-119}, orcid-numbers = {Csutora, Mária/0000-0002-0749-3923; Tabi, Andrea/0000-0002-5028-1117} } @article{MTMT:2838972, title = {A vállalati működés energetikai jellemzői a mikro-, kis- és közepes vállalati szektorban – egy kismintás, unikális, Dél-dunántúli MKKV energetikai felmérés gyakorlati tapasztalatai}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/2838972}, author = {Rideg, András}, journal-iso = {SUGO SZEMLE}, journal = {SUGO SZEMLE}, volume = {1}, unique-id = {2838972}, year = {2014}, eissn = {2064-9185}, pages = {20-40}, orcid-numbers = {Rideg, András/0000-0001-7332-7803} } @article{MTMT:2253462, title = {Environmental management practices in the manufacturing sector - Hungarian features in international comparison}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/2253462}, author = {Harangozó, Gábor and Kerekes, Sándor and Zsóka, Ágnes}, doi = {10.5771/0949-6181-2010-4-312}, journal-iso = {J EAST EUR MANAG STUD}, journal = {JOURNAL OF EAST EUROPEAN MANAGEMENT STUDIES}, volume = {15}, unique-id = {2253462}, issn = {0949-6181}, abstract = {The paper provides an overview of the state of corporate environmental management in Hungary compared to older EU and OECD states.
