A téma felkeltette a kutatók figyelmét is, és vizsgálataik során többek között elemezték a helyhatóságok sporttal kapcsolatos kiadásait. A mai magyarországi viszonyokat tekintve megállapítható, hogy a központi költségvetésben nem szerepel olyan normatív támogatási forma, amelyet helyi szinten csak sportra lehetne fordítani. Ennek szellemében vizsgálatunk középpontjában az állt, milyen szerepet játszik a sport a magyarországi helyi önkormányzatok költségvetésében, milyen különbségek figyelhetők meg az egyes helyhatóságok között. Az elemzés során azt találtuk, hogy a nagyobb lakosságszámú önkormányzatok többet költenek sportra, feltűnő ugyanakkor Budapest igen alacsony sport vonatkozású részvállalása. Emellett a sporttal kapcsolatos kiadások nagyságrendje öszszefüggést mutat a helyi önkormányzatoknak a kormányzati sportpolitika irányvonalával való azonosulásával. A sportkiadások sportszakmai szerkezetében a településnagyság függvényében jelentős eltérések tapasztalhatók: a nagyobb településeken a verseny- és utánpótlássport támogatása, míg a kisebbeken a szabadidősport támogatása haladja meg az országos átlagértéket. As a result of the growing importance given to sport in recent decades by the central government also local governments realized there role in giving special attention to this area. Focus of academic research was aimed at the analysis of sport related expenditures of local governments. It must be noted that as of today there is no such normative form of funding in central budget that conditioned to be spent only on sport at the local level. Our study focused on the role of sport in Hungary in local governments’ budgets, and on the differences observed between the different local authorities. It was found that the larger local municipalities spend more sports, with the exception of Budapest, which demonstrates very low sports-related engagement. Besides sport-related expenditure correlated with the magnitude of identification of local authorities with the central government’s sports policy direction.
