Virtual reality is an artificial world, a computer mediated environment. The user tries to enter fully into the spirit of her or his role in this unreal-world. Virtual Environment (VE) technology has undergone a transition in the past few years that has taken it out of the realm of an expensive toy into that of a functional technology. During the past decade, in the field of Mental Healthcare, the considerable potential of VEs for scientific study has been recognized. This paper shows the application of VR and presents VR research in the Pannon University. The virtual worlds introduced have been developed for treating specific phobias (fear of traveling). As the application of computers becomes more and more general in teaching healthy children so does it in teaching children with learning disabilities. Thence a multimedia and virtual reality software package was designed for the rehabilitation of autistic children. This paper presents the developed programs and the results of their usability test.
