In the case of a national institution, such criticism does not constitute an attack but rather an expression of a constructive intention to improve it. Improving academicians’ scientific performance, institutional operations, and the establish- ment of objective, transparent processes for academic succession would fundamentally serve the nation’s interests. A broad intellectual discourse has emerged concerning the manner of change, intensifying from spring 2025 around the bicentennial of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the election of its new president. The identified institutional challenges have now entered public discourse. Az utóbbi két évben pedig felerősödtek az intézmény akadémikusainak tudományos telje- sítményét kritikával illető vélemények is. Az MTA a bírálatokra a konstruktív párbeszéd he- lyett egyoldalú kinyilatkoztatásokkal válaszolt. A nemzetközi tudományos élvonaltól elmaradó akadémikusi teljesítményeket bemutató kritikára érdemi cáfolatot nem adott. 2026-ban pedig egy közvélemény-kutatást végeztetett, amellyel az iránta megnyilvánuló közbizalmat próbálta igazolni. Jelen tanulmány az MTA közbizalmi indexének, az elvégzett közvélemény-kutatás ellentmondásos tartalmát mutatja be, ráirányítva a figyelmet a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia működésének valódi problémáira, a nemzetközi térben is versenyképes akadémikusi teljesítmény és az átlátható szervezeti működés deficitjére. As its keys result, an additional one million people are now on the labor market, the employment rate has risen from 52% to almost 80%, while the unemployment rate remained below 4%, even during the 2020–2024 crisis years. The Hungarian government provides targeted labor market subsidies, and starting in 2025, has introduced new rules to strengthen the labor market. These government actions are designed to prevent westward migration and to help both the families and society as a whole to prosper. Following a brief overview of these Hungarian actions, the study places its findings next to those on Slovakia, a neighboring country at a similar level of development. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model is applied to examine the link between money (M), interest rate (R), exchange rate (FX), producer price index (PP), import volume (IM), global food prices and the consumer price index (CPI). The estimates of the bound test found the cointegrating associations among the variables. The alternative Johansen test confirmed the existence of such a long-run relationship. Additionally, M, FX and PP have long-run relationships with the CPI, while the elasticity of the CPI with respect to R and IM is not statistically significant in the long run. The error correction term (ECM) has a value of –0.18, which means that 18% of the deviation is corrected in each month. Moreover, R and FX have a positive and statistically significant effect on the CPI in the short run. Finally, the Toda and Yamamoto causality test established the bidirectional causality between M and the CPI in Uzbekistan. They also maintain an unbroken chain of supply and the going concern principle. Our study examines the resilience of Hungarian, municipally owned utility companies, with particular focus on security of supply and financial stability. This research presents the environmental obligations of utility companies, the effects of regulatory changes, and the strengthening role of the state over the past decade and a half. It analyses corporate profitability and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study highlights that adaptive regulatory frameworks and appropriate financial strategies can increase the resilience of utility companies, ensuring service continuity even in crisis situations. The post-2010 Hungarian state model, operating on statist principles where the government assumes a significant role in economic governance and public service provision, has increasingly faced challenges and limitations during the critical economic years since 2020, which may call into question the efficiency and sustainability of this model. Their ability to catch up with the performance of more advanced European economies has declined to varying degrees and for varying lengths of time. The Slovak economy is a special case, which has been particularly hard hit by the problem of slowing real convergence. This paper shows the specific features of the Slovak case in both the macroeconomic and regional dimensions. It also explains the range of causes of this phenomenon. These are primarily related to the underdevelopment of new drivers of productivity: the parameters of capital accumulation have deteriorated, investment in intellectual property assets, the parameters of hi-tech activities and research and development have lagged far behind. In the regional perspective, the slowdown at macro-level convergence has mainly been reflected in the deterioration of the position of the strongest regions, and thus the performance of Slovakia’s regions has paradoxically moved closer together. The analysis is in the nature of an explanatory case study that explains the peculiar trajectory of Slovakia and the deterioration of its position in the V4 group. Ennek főbb eredményei, hogy 1 millió emberrel több fő dolgozik, a foglakoztatási ráta 52 %-ról 80 % közelébe emelkedett, míg a munkanélküliségi ráta a 2020–2024-es válság évei alatt sem nőtt 4 % fölé. A magyar kormány célirányos munkaerő-piaci támogatásokat biztosított, sőt 2025-től újabb munkaerőpiacot erősítő szabályokat vezetett be. Az intézkedések a Nyugatra történő elvándorlást, illetve a családok, a társadalom gyarapodását szolgálják. Ezen magyar intézkedéscsomag vázlatos bemutatását követően a tanulmány megvizsgálja, hogy a hasonló fejlettségű, szomszédos ország, Szlovákia a munkaerőpiaca védelme érdekében milyen konkrét intézkedéseket tart hatályban. A vizsgált közel két évtizedes időszakban ezen vállalatok a rendszerváltás elején önkormányzati, majd az 1990-es évek közepétől magán, majd 2010-től jobbára újra települési önkormányzati tulajdonban állnak. Ám a vállalatok működésére erős hatást gyakorol, hogy 2013-tól a közüzemi közszolgálatások területén – az átfogó állampénzügyi reform keretei között – állami hatósági árszabályozás lépett hatályba. Sőt az 1990-es rendszerváltozás első két évtizedében privatizált közüzemi közszolgálatók újra nemzeti (részben önkormányzati, részben állami) tulajdonba kerültek vissza a 2010-es évek első felében. Tanulmányunk arra keresi a választ, hogy a szabályozási változások hogyan hatottak a gazdálkodásukra, milyen pénzügyi stabilitással rendelkeznek. A vizsgálati időhorizont a 20062022 közötti időszakot öleli fel egy panelvizsgálat keretében, amely a 2020 utáni kritikusabb és az előtte lévő viszonylag konszolidáltabb időszakot veti össze egymással. Az alkalmazott kutatási módszertan kvantitatív kutatás, amelynek során a vállalatok különböző, a determinált időszakhoz kapcsolódó értékeit varianciaelemzéssel teszteltük. Az úgynevezett reziliencia index kialakítása során saját számítást végeztünk, míg a befolyásoló tényezőket korrelációelemzéssel teszteltük.
