A secondary aim was to evaluate the predictive value of pretreatment leukemia-associated immunophenotypes (LAIPs) for poor early response to induction therapy defined as >= 10% day 15 bone marrow flow cytometry minimal residual disease (FCM-MRD). Methods This retrospective cohort study reviewed the medical data of 393 consecutive pediatric ALL patients diagnosed and treated from February 2003 to April2017atfour Croatian pediatric hemato-oncology centers. FCM data of 379 non-infant patients enrolled in two consecutive intercontinental trials, ALL IC-BFM 2002 (NCT00764907) and ALL IC-BFM 2009 (EudraCT 2010-019722-13), were analyzed to evaluate the association between LAIPs at diagnosis and day 15 FCM-MRD >= 10% using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Results The median age at diagnosis was 5.2 years, with a predominance (83%) of B-cell precursor (BCP) ALL, and high hyperdiploidy (25.1%) and ETV6..RUNX1 (18.7%) as the most common genetic abnormalities. The protocols did not significantly differ in 5-year event-free survival (82.1% vs 81.7%), overall survival (88% vs 85%), and cumulative incidence of relapse (12.3% vs 10%). FCM-MRD >= 10% on day 15 was identified in 22.1% of patients and was predicted by white blood cell (WBC) count >= 20 x 109/L (P = 0.011) and strong expression of CD34 (P = 0.032) and CD13 (P = 0.001) at diagnosis. Conclusion The characteristics and survival rates of Croatian pediatric ALL patients aligned with ALL IC-BFM data. WBC >= 20x 109/L, CD34strong, and CD13strong independently predicted poor early response in BCP-ALL, suggesting a potential prognostic value of LAIPs at diagnosis.}, keywords = {CELL; CLINICAL-SIGNIFICANCE; PROGNOSTIC-SIGNIFICANCE; HIGH-RISK; ANTIGEN-EXPRESSION; CD20 EXPRESSION; AIEOP-BFM; CHILDHOOD B-PRECURSOR; CD34 EXPRESSION}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1332-8166}, pages = {100-114} } @article{MTMT:36543451, title = {Aeroallergen sensitization rate and its multifactorial influences in continental Croatia: a cross-sectional study}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36543451}, author = {Lazarevic, Vesna Vukicevic and Markovic, Ivan}, doi = {10.3325/cmj.2025.66.82}, journal-iso = {CROAT MED J}, journal = {CROATIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL}, volume = {66}, unique-id = {36543451}, issn = {0353-9504}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1332-8166}, pages = {82-91} } @article{MTMT:36100137, title = {Balancingtradition and innovation: rethinking the dichotomy in anatomy teaching}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36100137}, author = {Cavka, Marina and Petanjek, Zdravko and Beader, Maura Zanze and Mathew, Thomas and Brassett, Cecilia and Nagy, András Dávid and Hladnik, Ana}, doi = {10.3325/cmj.2025.66.62}, journal-iso = {CROAT MED J}, journal = {CROATIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL}, volume = {66}, unique-id = {36100137}, issn = {0353-9504}, abstract = {Medical education has undergone a significant reform in response to evolving healthcare demands, technological advancements, and emerging research in biomedical and education sciences. The teaching methods in anatomy, a core component of medical education, have notably changed, with traditional cadaveric dissection being increasingly replaced by digital and hybrid alternatives. Despite research indicating no significant difference in short-term knowledge retention between students who engaged in cadaveric dissection and those engaging in alternative methods, dissection uniquely fosters professionalism, empathy, and ethical awareness - traits essential for holistic medical education. This review critically examines the dichotomy between traditional and innovative teaching methods in anatomy education, questioning the assumption that traditional methods hinder progress in modern healthcare. The findings suggest that changes in medical education are primarily influenced by organizational issues, which frequently results in an incomplete implementation of innovative teaching approaches. The inconsistent application of innovative teaching methods makes it difficult to assess their effectiveness and compare them with traditional methods. Reliable data on their long-term impact can only be generated by randomized controlled trials and longitudinal studies. In the meantime, we need to ensure that current medical students receive high-quality education by incorporating best practices from diverse teaching methods based on valuable insights from experienced educators and current students ' learning preferences.}, keywords = {history; PERSPECTIVES; Cadaveric dissection; COVID-19; GROSS-ANATOMY}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1332-8166}, pages = {62-70}, orcid-numbers = {Hladnik, Ana/0000-0002-9623-1086} } @article{MTMT:36308777, title = {Testicular tissue bank: ten years of testicular tissue cryopreservation in Croatia}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36308777}, author = {Ćapin Vilaj, Marija and Trupinić, Monika and Jug, Ante and Hauptman, Dinko and Zimak, Zoran and Kaštelan, Željko and Ježek, Davor}, doi = {10.3325/cmj.2025.66.71}, journal-iso = {CROAT MED J}, journal = {CROATIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL}, volume = {66}, unique-id = {36308777}, issn = {0353-9504}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1332-8166}, pages = {71-76} } @article{MTMT:36700925, title = {The future of medicine: embracing novelty while sticking to the basics}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36700925}, author = {Bognar, Svjetlana Kalanj and Baric, Hrvoje}, doi = {10.3325/cmj.2025.66.1}, journal-iso = {CROAT MED J}, journal = {CROATIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL}, volume = {66}, unique-id = {36700925}, issn = {0353-9504}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1332-8166}, pages = {1-2} } @article{MTMT:35862380, title = {Alcohol use among Croatian adolescents: the alignment of 13-year-old and 15-year-old girls with boys, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/35862380}, author = {Valentic, Maja and Karin, Tonka and Simetin, Luka and Petkovic, Lara and Simetin, Filip and Tiljak, Mirjana Kujundzic}, doi = {10.3325/cmj.2024.65.483}, journal-iso = {CROAT MED J}, journal = {CROATIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL}, volume = {65}, unique-id = {35862380}, issn = {0353-9504}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1332-8166}, pages = {483-492} } @article{MTMT:35658783, title = {Outcomes of 1.3 million patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention according to the presence of cancer and atrial fibrillation: a retrospective study}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/35658783}, author = {Istanbuly, S. and Matetić, A. and Bang, V. and Sharma, K. and Golwala, H. and Kheiri, B. and Osman, M. and Swamy, P. and Bharadwaj, A. and Mamas, M.}, doi = {10.3325/cmj.2024.65.405}, journal-iso = {CROAT MED J}, journal = {CROATIAN MEDICAL JOURNAL}, volume = {65}, unique-id = {35658783}, issn = {0353-9504}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1332-8166}, pages = {405-416} }
