However, the shelf-life of these products is often so short that a relatively high percentage of these products cannot be sold and end up as food waste. In this study, pork loin with different marinades (paprika and herbs) was treated with different high hydrostatic pressures (0 MPa, 300 MPa, 450 MPa and 600 MPa) and a bioactive component (piperine) and then the quality of the meat was examined after 0, 4, 8, 12 and 14 days of cold storage. Changes were monitored using color, pH, texture and microbiological analyses. Both pressure, piperine enrichment, storage time and the interactions of different factors had a significant effect on the quality of the loin samples with different marinades. Due to the denaturation of myoglobin, meat slices were less red and lighter after HHP treatment. The addition of piperine reduced this lightness. The pH increased with increasing pressure and decreased with storage time. HHP treatment significantly increased meat hardness, with samples treated at 600 MPa being 19% harder than those treated at 450 MPa. Microbiological results indicated that HHP at 450 MPa and 600 MPa effectively reduced anaerobic total live plate counts, ensuring satisfactory sensory and microbiological quality throughout storage. Piperine fortification also resulted in a more favorable microbiological status during storage without any perceptible change in quality properties during storage. These findings underscore the effectiveness of HHP and piperine enrichment in enhancing the safety and quality of marinated meats. LA - English DB - MTMT ER - TY - JOUR AU - Tian, H. AU - Shu, Q. TI - Deletion of Transient Receptor Channel Vanilloid 4 Aggravates CaCl2-Induced Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and Vascular Calcification: A Histological Study JF - APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL J2 - APPL SCI-BASEL VL - 14 PY - 2024 SP - in press SN - 2076-3417 DO - 10.3390/app14062566 UR - https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/35208652 ID - 35208652 N1 - ISSN:2076-3417 AB - Vascular calcification is calcium deposition occurring in the wall of blood vessels, leading to mechanical stress and rupture due to a loss of elasticity and the hardening of the vessel wall. The role of the Transient Receptor Channel Vanilloid 4 (TRPV4), a Ca2+-permeable cation channel, in the progression of vascular calcification is poorly explored. In this study, we investigated the role of TRPV4 in vascular calcification and the development of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Experimental mice were randomly divided into four groups: wild-type (WT) sham operated group, WT CaCl2-induced aortic injury, TRPV4-KO sham operated group, and TRPV4-KO CaCl2-induced aortic injury. The TRPV4-knockout (TRPV4-KO) mice and wild-type (WT) mice were subjected to the CaCl2-induced abdominal aortic injury. In histopathological analysis, the aorta of the TRPV4-KO mice showed extensive calcification in the tunica media with a significant increase in the outer diameter (p < 0.0001), luminal area (p < 0.05), and internal circumference (p < 0.05) after CaCl2 injury when compared to WT mice. Additionally, the tunica media of the TRPV4-KO mice aorta showed extensive damage with apparent elongation and disruption of the elastic lamella. These results indicate a protective function of TRPV4 against vascular calcification and the progression of AAA after CaCl2 injury. The growing energy demands of increasingly complex simulations and algorithms lead to substantial resource use, which conflicts with global sustainability goals. This paper investigates the energy efficiency of different parallel implementations of a Cellular Potts model, which models cellular behavior through Hamiltonian energy minimization techniques, leveraging modern GPU architectures. By evaluating alternative solvers, it demonstrates that specific methods can significantly enhance computational efficiency and reduce energy use compared to traditional approaches. The results confirm notable improvements in execution time and energy consumption. In particular, the experiments show a reduction in terms of power of up to 53%, providing a pathway towards more sustainable high-performance computing practices for complex biological simulations. In response to this situation, this study successfully implemented a large-scale heterogeneous parallel algorithm for the lattice Boltzmann method using OpenMP, MPI, Pthread, and OpenCL parallel technologies on the “Dongfang” supercomputer system. The accuracy and effectiveness of this algorithm were verified through the lid-driven cavity flow simulation. The paper focused on optimizing the algorithm in four aspects: Firstly, non-blocking communication was employed to overlap communication and computation, thereby improving parallel efficiency. Secondly, high-speed shared memory was utilized to enhance memory access performance and reduce latency. Thirdly, a balanced computation between the central processing unit and the accelerator was achieved through proper task partitioning and load-balancing strategies. Lastly, memory access efficiency was improved by adjusting the memory layout. Performance testing demonstrated that the optimized algorithm exhibited improved parallel efficiency and scalability, with computational performance that is 4 times greater than before optimization and 20 times that of a 32-core CPU.
