Numerous articles have been published on the subject, building on basic technology adoption models to investigate the impact of a wide range of factors on adoption. The proliferation of variables frequently makes it challenging to interpret results and may generate confusion. In order to synthetize and organize this knowledge, the authors collected 143 variables from 47 systematically selected studies. Based on the results of an in-depth analysis of the content and effects of each variable, they developed a framework that helps provide insights into state-of-the-art research on technology acceptance in higher education. The results of their study not only summarize what they know so far but also point to gaps where new findings in the field are expected. Study abroad opportunities provide long-lasting advantages for students but, at the same time, represent complex decisions for applicants, usually involving a high degree of uncertainty. This paper aims to obtain a deeper understanding of study-abroad decision-making in higher education by combining marketing and behavioral economics perspectives. The authors conducted in-depth interviews with North African scholarship holders and adapted the customer journey framework to a study abroad decision context. Three stages of the customer journey were considered: the pre-application stage, the application stage, and the post-admittance stage. Loss aversion, group identification, social norms, endowment effects, and priming, as core concepts from behavioral economics, were identified and enriched the practical implications of the customer journey framework. Higher education institutions may benefit from our findings when designing their communication and recruiting strategies. The Granger causality results demonstrated a unidirectional connection moving from oil price to imports, exports, international reserves, and GDP, this is an inevitable result because oil prices are determined in the international markets according to specific factors that do not include local economic variables. The variance decomposition result indicated that oil price changes are an important source of variation in the studied variables. Finally, the results of the impulse response function indicated that fluctuations in oil prices significantly impact GDP, exports, imports, and international reserves in Iraq. Therefore, we suggest that economic policymakers work seriously to develop practical plans to diversify the Iraqi economy instead of relying too heavily on oil revenues, which are characterized by sharp and continuous volatility, to avoid the negative effects of these fluctuations on the main macroeconomic variables in Iraq. Scholars have identified several waves of populist governments flourishing in the region during the last century. The third wave began in the 2000s when leftist leaders came to power in some Latin American countries, a phenomenon called “the Pink Tide”. Two of the most notable examples of populist governments in this wave were Evo Morales in Bolivia (2006–2019) and Rafael Correa in Ecuador (2007–2017). Both leaders promoted an anti-elitist rhetoric highlighting a confrontational divide between domestic elites (as perpetrators of injustices) and the people (as victims). This rhetoric also involved external actors. The relationship with the great powers was permeated by the populist discourse based on the logic of “them vs. us”. In this context, the paper analyses the rhetoric of Evo Morales and Rafael Correa concerning the role of the European Union in their countries. Primary sources (speeches, press releases and official documents) are examined to understand the image built around the EU and to grasp how populist rhetoric portrayed the EU’s role in areas such as trade and migration. The result is a complex assessment of the ideas about the EU disseminated by these leaders, examining how Morales’s and Correa’s rhetoric evolved over the years and identifying similarities and differences between their approaches.
