However, there has been little research done on how critical sociolinguistics can be linked to research that is based on the involvement and engagement of as many participants as possible at a level they find relevant for themselves. We argue that the academic separation between the ‘researcher’ and the ‘researched’ is worth reexamining in sociolinguistic research, as all participants do ’ideologizing work’ that establishes the perspective from which they view language. We discuss this through a case study from Moldavia, the North-Eastern region of Romania, which aimed to explore the contemporary language practices of former students of a Hungarian-language revitalization program. We point out that being critical of language-related inequalities cannot be separated from being critical of participation in the research process, if we are to work together across a multiplicity of language ideologies. Libraries are regarded as centers and symbols of human culture and are often described as places of imagination. In Elias Canetti’s novel Auto-da-Fé, the main character, Peter Kien, is surrounded by a collection of 25,000 books. His library acts as a shield against the turmoil of the outside world; it symbolizes security and is a source of scientific knowledge. The tragic ending, where this library goes up in flames, hints at the possible end of the library as an institution. For many authors, books are sources of inspiration and serve as a survival strategy. The aim of this contribution is to examine, based on two literary texts, whether libraries should be considered as threatened institutions or whether they represent a survival opportunity for humanity. This question is especially relevant in modern times, as technological storage media increasingly seem to take over the function of books. It is probably most striking in Grete’s case, who transforms from a caring sister into an impassive “goddess of fate” in the time between Gregor’s transformation and his death and virtually pronounces the death sentence on Gregor, who is now only called it”. Her most important argument is that her brother Gregor and this animal cannot be identical. A logic that is more or less followed by her father and mother, but which seems superfluous to the cleaner, who only knows Gregor in his transformed state and first refers to him as a “dung beetle” and then as “thing”. This article examines how the process of Gregor’s objectification unfolds for the individual characters and examines whether and, if so, how this process is depicted in the 1975 film adaptation of the same title by Jan Němec. AB - Using digital and non-digital card games to teach mathematics is a well-established didactic technique widely applied at different levels of education. Game-based learning strategies are also gaining ground in higher education, but the use of maths card games in university settings remains limited. Generation Z students are true digital natives, members of a hyper-cognitive generation with a learning profile different from any previous generation. In this paper, an original non-digital card game, Blue Yeti, is presented that supports determining the convergence property of improper integrals using the comparison theorems and the Cauchy–Maclaurin test, providing a motivational and effective way of acquiring knowledge for Gen Z students. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the development process, rules, and gameplay mechanics of Blue Yeti, which was created as a key component of a multifunctional didactic framework. In addition, it presents findings from a two-year research study conducted among first-year bachelor’s students in computer science on the benefits of playing Blue Yeti. Quantitative studies were carried out with 63 first-year IT students using a quasi-experimental research design to measure the effectiveness of the game. A pre- and post-test design was used with the experimental group of 31 participants to evaluate the short-term effects of card game-based learning. A t-test for paired samples was used for hypothesis testing. To assess the medium-term impact, the results from the related midterm exam problems were statistically analysed, comparing the outcomes of the experimental group with those of the control group using the Mann–Whitney U-test. The results indicated that the experimental group outperformed the control group, achieving a mean score of 3.03 out of 6 on the designated midterm exam problems, compared to the control group’s mean score of 1.78. Additionally, student attitudes towards the game were measured using a mixed-method approach, which provided not only quantitative data but also qualitative information on student attitudes towards Blue Yeti, complementing the statistics on learning outcomes. The results of the study clearly support the effectiveness of the card game. LA - English DB - MTMT ER - TY - JOUR AU - Sasvári, Anna TI - Mesterséges intelligencia a fantázia birodalmában.
