Those who can adapt best to change are those who can be flexible, changeable and fast at the same time. These can be collectively referred to as agility and its economic counterpart as business agility. Business agility is not just a buzzword, it is a fundamental change in the way organisations operate and respond to the dynamic challenges of the modern marketplace. The pace of change has accelerated exponentially, driven by technological breakthroughs, market disruptions and unforeseen global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic or international war conflicts. Businesses must adapt to change and have the flexibility to adapt their strategies, products and services accordingly. Moreover, competition is no longer confined to traditional industry boundaries. New players can appear on the market overnight and can pose very significant risks to any business. The ability to adapt, innovate and react quickly to changing circumstances is a core competence that can determine the survival and prosperity of a company. The paper focuses on the understanding and importance of business agility. Method: The paper aims to introduce the subject under study through a secondary research based on a literature review. Following the secondary research, the results of the questionnaire survey will be presented. The questionnaire assessed aspects of agility and agile operations along closed, scaled questions. The results were analysed using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance. Results and conclusion: In this study we wanted to present an individual interpretation of agility. We were interested in the extent to which previous participation in economic and agile education influences the perception of agile criteria. The four cardinal domain statements presented in the survey and the impact of agility on them are not yet adequately assessed by the respondents. Due to the novelty of agility and misconceptions about it, it is not yet possible to clearly demonstrate the positive impact of this approach in Hungary, which is something that needs to change in the future. Research implications: The study can provide a good basis for understanding individual interpretations of agility. The results show that the concept itself is not yet embedded in everyday business thinking, which means that important steps are still to be taken, at least in the case of Hungary. Complex programmes to broaden our understanding would be important and necessary, challenging future education and providing a good basis for further research. Originality/value: The originality of the research lies in the fact that there have been no comprehensive studies and research on agility, on the human side of agile thinking. In this field, the study aims to serve as a thought-provoking tool, establishing the importance of the topic and the need for further research, which is particularly relevant for organisations and individuals in the rapidly changing and challenging world of the 21st century. We are faced with more and more difficult and complex tasks and goals every day, and it is very difficult to perform better and better in the face of these tasks and challenges. Project management is precisely about helping to turn complex tasks into well-executed processes that always end with a result. Project management is more than a set of methodologies: it is a dynamic discipline that organises complex tasks, mitigates risks and directs efforts towards a common goal. Its relevance can be demonstrated in many areas. We can measure the success of our project management system on a number of points, from efficiency to the quality of teamwork and management satisfaction. Defining criteria for success is also an important challenge for researchers today. This paper addresses similar issues, thus trying to shed light on the importance of project management, while also trying to highlight the barriers and obstacles. Project management can be a major competitive advantage for companies in the 21st century, but only if it is carried out professionally and well, i.e. if it is given the right framework and support. Method: After a secondary literature review, this paper presents the results of a primary research study covering two countries. The research instrument was a questionnaire that assessed the project perception of Hungarian and Slovakian enterprises and the transformation of this perception in a complex way, based on the perceptions of enterprises in both countries. In addition to classical basic statistical methods, the study drew conclusions with the help of analysis of variance. Results and conclusion: In this study, we set out to assess the project perceptions of Hungarian and Slovakian businesses based on the opinions of SMEs. The sample clearly shows that Slovak enterprises attach more importance to the project approach, as indicated by the mean scores for each statement. The results also show that there is a high heterogeneity in the perception of enterprises on project management and project approach, especially when grouped along different size categories. All these results also show significant differences by country and segment, which are presented in detail in the research part of the study. Research implications: Our research results provide a good basis for businesses and educational institutions on how to look at their projects and their management. The study aims to strengthen the ability to think in terms of projects and to think in terms of projects, drawing attention to the most important directions and paths. Originality/value: The main focus of the study is on how such knowledge is perceived by the stakeholders interviewed and whether the answers can be used to draw conclusions that are of interest and informative for the wider society. To determine the extent to which the variables affect each other's volatilities we build a five‐variable vector autoregression (VAR) and determine the spillover table like in Diebold‐Yilmaz's 2012 work. This methodology is preferred to a simple impulse response function (IRF) because we manage to avoid the problem of non‐orthogonal innovations via the generalized forecast error variance decomposition framework. The issue of variable ordering, therefore, does not arise. We focus on three episodes of increased volatility in Hungarian and European short‐term interest rates: Q3–Q4 of 2019, Q1 of 2020 and Q3 of 2022. These episodes correspond to volatility spikes in EU markets that to some extent had a measurable spillover effect on Hungarian interbank rates. We find that on average, across the entire sample of 957 observations, about 6.3% of the volatility forecast error variance in all five European and Hungarian variables comes from spillovers. The total and directional spillovers over the sample are extremely low. We conclude that the European Central Bank's surprise policy decisions have a marginal impact on Hungarian interbank rates. We also find that BUBOR is primarily a net receiver of spillovers from the MAX short‐term government bond benchmark rather than the EURIBOR—this disproved our initial considerations.
