In Hungary, Lake Balaton is the primary destination for waterfront tourism, offering a wide range of opportunities in this sector. Water-based, waterfront tourism is mainly concentrated in the high summer season, but there is an increasing range of opportunities in both the low and high season. In our research, we investigated the development of cruise tourism in Lake Balaton in the off-season, in the months of September-October 2023, by conducting in-depth interviews and questionnaire research. Our research has confirmed that this service is also in demand outside the high season. In the autumn, cruises add a special value to the experience, they can help to reduce seasonal fluctuations in tourism by offering attractive activities and also increase income for local businesses during the off-season. In today's tourism, the role of museums, museum institutions and archaeological parks is becoming increasingly important as cultural and educational centres that are in direct contact with the public. Archaeological parks occupy a special place in this system, as they are created directly on the sites of former settlements, villages and other historical sites, allowing visitors to experience authentic history. In our research, we analysed national and international examples from different ages, taking into account Tripadvisor and Google reviews, social media followers, as well as the content of their websites. The results highlight the role of these institutions in modern tourism and how they are adapting to the challenges of the new era, in particular their digital presence and interactivity. Utilizing statistical analyses such as regression and cluster analysis on data sourced from both Hungarian and Western European parks from the Roman Period, the research scrutinizes TripAdvisor and Google ratings, alongside the volume of photographs and reviews. The findings highlight a modest correlation between digital visibility and overall visitor ratings, underscoring the complex relationship between online engagement and the quality of visitor experience. Notably, the cluster analysis identified two distinct groups, signifying diverse levels of visitor engagement and digital visibility across the parks. The conclusions drawn advocate for a comprehensive strategy to enhance visitor experiences, emphasizing the integration of digital engagement with the promotion of the parks cultural and historical values. By exploring the influence of digital presence on the appeal of archaeological parks, our study sheds light on the evolving interface between urban studies and digital heritage, highlighting how digital tools and online platforms are becoming increasingly integral in shaping the perceptions and experiences of urban cultural sites.
