In complex systems, events from parallel processes are present, often without proper labelling. To identify the groups of events related to the subprocess, frequent sequential pattern mining can be applied. Since most algorithms provide too many frequent sequences that make it difficult to interpret the results, it is necessary to post-process the resulting frequent patterns. The available visualisation techniques do not allow easy access to multiple properties that support a faster and better understanding of the event scenarios. To answer this issue, our work proposes an intuitive and interactive solution to support this task, introducing three novel network-based sequence visualisation methods that can reduce the time of information processing from a cognitive perspective. The proposed visualisation methods offer a more information rich and easily understandable interpretation of sequential pattern mining results compared to the usual text-like outcome of pattern mining algorithms. The first uses the confidence values of the transitions to create a weighted network, while the second enriches the adjacency matrix based on the confidence values with similarities of the transitive nodes. The enriched matrix enables a similarity-based Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) projection of the sequences. The third method uses similarity measurement based on the overlap of the occurrences of the supporting events of the sequences. The applicability of the method is presented in an industrial alarm management problem and in the analysis of clickstreams of a website. The method was fully implemented in Python environment. The results show that the proposed methods are highly applicable for the interactive processing of frequent sequences, supporting the exploration of the inner mechanisms of complex systems. Integrating Proximity and Consumer Perception TS - Integrating Proximity and Consumer Perception PY - 2024 UR - https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34850168 ID - 34850168 AB - There is a growing interest in supporting local food systems, highlighting the importance of understanding associated consumer preferences. However, diverse interpretations of "local" among supply chain participants and in literature create challenges in defining local food, hindering economic, environmental, and social benefits. Proximity theory, proposed by Eriksen in 2013, offers insight into these interpretations beyond physical distance, taking into account value and personal proximities. Literature presents various interpretations of local food through dual, triple, and multiple proximity approaches. To address the need for clarity in local food theory, a new analytical framework is proposed, based on comprehensive literature review and exploratory research. This local food perception framework integrates innovation, culture, and trust perspectives with food proximities, aiming to offer a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between proximity theories and socio-cultural dimensions. The proposed research implements this framework through a consumer survey. The survey includes demographic data and Likert scale questions exploring consumer attitudes through perceived proximities. Data collection was conducted in 2024 amongst Hungarian consumers. Principal component analysis (PCA) and descriptive statistics using R Studio, are utilized. While not seeking representativeness, this data collection aims to deepen insights into consumer perception of food locality. According to the preliminary results, the consumer perception of food locality might not be driven by geographical proximity, but other, value-related perceived proximities play an important role in the perceptions. Also, some food product characteristics might strongly indicate the perceived locality, compared to the closeness in space. By gaining a deeper insight into consumer perceptions, it becomes possible to enhance the design of consumer-related policies and strategies, as well as strengthen the marketing activities of local food producers. Through the analysis of the intricate relationship between proximities and socio-cultural factors, this study seeks to empower stakeholders to make well-informed decisions that support local food initiatives. However, emission of diesel-powered vehicles still poses a significant environmental threat, affecting rural ecosystems and agriculture. Several studies have reported that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a group of potentially toxic organic compounds, can accumulate in crops and vegetables. In our study, white mustard ( Sinapis alba L.) plants were experimentally treated with an extract of diesel exhaust. PAH concentrations were measured in the different plant compartments (stems, leaves and seeds), bioconcentration factors (BCFs) were also calculated. Significant accumulation was measured in the leaves and seeds, stems showed lower accumulation potential. All plant matrices showed high tendency to accumulate higher molecular weight PAHs, BCF was the highest in the 6-ring group. The fact that considerable accumulation was experienced in the seeds might show the risk of cultivating crops nearby roads highly impacted by traffic-related emissions.
