We investigate such problematic uses from a contrastive angle, by considering whether they relate to the fact that in Chinese there are two expressions which may be equivalents of English ‘don’t worry’: fangxin 放心 (lit. ‘ease your heart’) and bie-danxin 别担心 (lit. ‘don’t burden your heart’). First, we present uses of ‘don’t worry’ by Chinese learners of English and examine them through the lens of speech acts and interaction. Second, we undertake a corpus-based study of the speech act-indicating interactional uses of ‘don’t worry’, fangxin and bie-danxin, teasing out their conventional uses. Finally, we consider whether uses of ‘don’t worry’ by Chinese learners of English are influenced by pragmatic transfer and, if so, what this transfer looks like.}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1477-450X} } @article{MTMT:34772746, title = {Le van éve}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34772746}, author = {Jakab, Dorottya}, journal-iso = {ÉDES ANYANYELVÜNK}, journal = {ÉDES ANYANYELVÜNK}, volume = {46}, unique-id = {34772746}, issn = {0139-0457}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1588-0311}, pages = {26-27} } @article{MTMT:34741543, title = {A Pragmatic Analysis of Interactional Explanation in Intercultural Interactions}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34741543}, author = {Ning, Puyu}, journal-iso = {WAI YU YU WAI YU JIAOXUE / FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND THEIR TEACHING}, journal = {WAI YU YU WAI YU JIAOXUE / FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND THEIR TEACHING}, volume = {2024}, unique-id = {34741543}, issn = {1004-6038}, year = {2024}, pages = {11} } @article{MTMT:34724168, title = {The language of diplomatic mediation – A case study of an emergency meeting in the wake of the Yugoslav wars}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34724168}, author = {Kádár, Zoltán Dániel and House, Juliane and Todorović, Tadej and Onič, Tomaž and Hazemali, David and Plemenitaš, Katja and Brown, Donathan}, doi = {10.1016/j.langcom.2024.02.004}, journal-iso = {LANG COMMUN}, journal = {LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION}, volume = {96}, unique-id = {34724168}, issn = {0271-5309}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1873-3395}, pages = {54-66} } @article{MTMT:34682421, title = {Chinese ‘face’-related expressions in Peking and Teochew opera scripts – A historical contrastive pragmatic inquiry}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34682421}, author = {Chen, Jiejun and Kádár, Zoltán Dániel and House, Juliane}, journal-iso = {J HIST PRAGMAT}, journal = {JOURNAL OF HISTORICAL PRAGMATICS}, volume = {2024}, unique-id = {34682421}, issn = {1566-5852}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1569-9854} } @article{MTMT:34682416, title = {Analysing sympathy from a contrastive pragmatic angle: a Chinese–English case study}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34682416}, author = {House, Juliane and Kádár, Zoltán Dániel and Cang, He}, doi = {10.1515/applirev-2023-0205}, journal-iso = {APPL LINGUIST REV}, journal = {APPLIED LINGUISTICS REVIEW}, volume = {2024}, unique-id = {34682416}, issn = {1868-6303}, abstract = {In this study, we provide a replicable language-anchored framework for capturing expressions of sympathy in interaction, by contrasting Chinese and English sympathising behaviour. Our framework combines interaction ritual and speech acts, and it captures sympathising without associating it with one particular speech act from the outset. Methodologically, we follow a tripartite design: First we identify puzzlements which ritual sympathising can trigger for Chinese expatriates living in the US and American expatriates in China. We then conduct Discourse Completion Tests (DCTs) to identify conventions of sympathising in the two linguacultures. Finally, we interpret our expatriates’ puzzlement through the outcomes of the DCT analysis.}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1868-6311} } @article{MTMT:34680780, title = {A mellérendelő viszonyt jelölő kötőjelekről}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34680780}, author = {Ludányi, Zsófia}, journal-iso = {AMEGA}, journal = {AMEGA: ASZTMA ÉS ALLERGIA SZÍNES TÁJÉKOZTATÓ MAGAZIN}, volume = {31}, unique-id = {34680780}, issn = {1219-5316}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1588-0087}, pages = {39-41}, orcid-numbers = {Ludányi, Zsófia/0000-0002-8506-5684} } @inbook{MTMT:34580017, title = {Feleim, bébi, édes Hazám.
