D.E. MATE admin5 AB - Sunflower meal (SM) is an economically important, inexpensive, and locally abundant alternative protein source in the Eurozone. The study aimed at investigating the effects of feeding two forms of SM on the production traits, carcass composition, nutrient digestibility, and some gut parameters of broiler chickens. A total of 600-day-old Ross 308 male broilers were fed five isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets. Besides the control diet (C), the high- and low-fibre SMs (HFSM and LFSM) were fed at 20% (HFSM20 and LFSM20) and 30% (HFSM30 and LFSM30). Compared to the C, feeding the SM-containing diets did not affect the feed intake (FI) of birds. In the finisher phase, the HFSM30 treatment resulted in significantly higher, while the LFSM30 diet in significantly lower body weight gain. All SM treatments impaired FCR, but the difference was significant only in the grower phase. In comparison with the C, the SM treatments failed to modify carcass composition. The fat digestibility and the AMEn content increased, while the starch digestibility decreased when SM was fed. Except the LFSM30 treatment in the grower phase, the Nitrogen retention of birds was not affected. The SM-containing diets reduced the urinary N excretion, and the total N excretion of growers. Furthermore, the HFSM30 reduced the jejunal viscosity during the grower and finisher phases. The treatments did not modify the short-chain fatty acid contents of the caeca. In conclusion, SM can be used even at 20 and 30% in the nutrition of broiler chickens. However, the responses are affected by the age and the fibre content of SM. Its occurrence in the Carpathian Basin has been known since 2014. Despite the central position of Hungary in the radial expansion of T. callipaeda in Central and Eastern Europe, to date, no comprehensive surveillance has been conducted to determine the reservoir role of wild carnivores within the Carpathian Basin. Our study involved 180 red foxes (Vulpes vulpes), 62 golden jackals (Canis aureus), 119 European badgers (Meles meles), and 10 stone martens (Martes foina). Among the Mustelidae, we did not find any infected individuals. In the red fox, the prevalence and the mean intensity proved 12.2% (CI95% = 8-18%) and 2.64 (CI95% = 1.73-4.91), respectively; while in the golden jackal, these values were 9.7% (CI95% = 4.3-20%) and 3.0 (CI95% = 1.5-6.53), respectively. The difference in prevalence and mean intensity of infection between the two hosts proved non-significant. Our eco-epidemiological analysis revealed that humid and cool climates, the moisture-indicating beech and oak-hornbeam forests, increased the risk of infection in wild carnivores. These findings highlighted the importance of humidity in the spread of T. callipaeda in the Carpathian Basin. This comprehensive review examines the critical design parameters affecting cardiomyocyte function and maturation on electrospun scaffolds, including fiber diameter, material composition, alignment, and pore architecture. Recent advances in conductive polymers and hybrid material systems have shown particular promise for enhancing electrical coupling and functional maturation of stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. However, significant challenges remain in achieving complete cardiomyocyte maturation, particularly regarding calcium handling properties and metabolic characteristics. This review synthesizes current knowledge on technical characteristics of biomimetic nanofibrous scaffolds, identifying future directions for translating these approaches toward realistic cardiac models and potential clinical cardiac regenerative applications. In addition to direct yield loss, it is hypothesized that injury to generative tissues may also alter seed nutrient composition, particularly the unsaturated fatty acid profile, which is a key determinant of rapeseed quality. To assess this indirect effect, field experiments were conducted in 2024–2025, and seed samples were collected after ripening. The study aimed to evaluate pest-induced variation in nutrient content under different insecticide treatments. Alongside an untreated control, two active substances were tested: a systemic insecticide (acetamiprid) and a combined formulation of acetamiprid and lambda-cyhalothrin. Our results demonstrated that the widely used active insecticides are not effective against B. aeneus adults. Checking the fatty acid (FA) profile, within saturated FAs, the proportion of palmitic acid (C16:0) was the highest in the control; the single and combined pesticide treatments were characterized by increasing LA (C18:2n6) and ALA (C18:3n3) levels, in which both FAs exhibited a linear pattern with the single and combined treatments. In MUFAs, the most important finding was the negligible level of erucic acid (C22:1n9) below the detection limit. Oleic acid (C18:1n9) proportion was generally high (~50) and significantly decreased in treated groups. Oil quality affection highlights the importance of effective pest management to maintain the nutritional and technological value of rapeseed, as shifts in the n6:n3 ratio and thrombogenic index reflect stress responses rather than agronomic benefits.
