Keeping in mind the extremely close correlation between socio-economic status and health outcomes is of particular importance in planning health promotion and making health policy decisions. The research aimed at assessing the health status of the population of Sellye district, one of the most disadvantaged micro-regions according to available statistics, to examine the relationship between socio-economic status and health conditions, and to compare health status internationally with populations living in other disadvantaged regions. Research questions: How does the impact of sociodemographic factors on health prevail? Through what mechanisms does race/ethnicity affect health? Our present study is a literature review, the first stage of a comprehensive investigation, in which we examine the Hungarian and international literature. Health status is largely determined by sociodemographic characteristics, it is also influenced by the wider social, economic, political, and cultural environment. Health must always be considered in the context of the environment. Ethnicity is strongly connected to social class, but it can still be important in terms of social cohesion and the resources available to the Roma}, year = {2024}, eissn = {2707-3920}, pages = {257-267}, orcid-numbers = {Hideg, Gabriella/0000-0002-2916-1145} } @CONFERENCE{MTMT:34814037, title = {Exercise on Health in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): A Scoping Review}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34814037}, author = {Atmaca, Leman and Chauhan, Shalini and Vitrai, József and Prémusz, Viktória}, booktitle = {Absztraktkötet: XII. Depression, substance abuse, stress, and anxiety disorders are the most frequently diagnosed mental illnesses in general hospitals. Kenya was ranked fifth among African nations with the highest rates of depression. Methods: To investigate the role of the household wealth index on depression and anxiety prevalence in Kenya, this study utilizes the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 which the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics conducted. We used the proportional odds model with an adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence interval to calculate the wealth index for households that recorded the presence of anxiety or depression in Kenya. The wealth index has five categories and was used as a dependent variable with order categorization. The main explanatory variables were rural or urban residents, gender of household head, household insurance status, and education level among others. Results: A total of 3.5% of the surveyed Kenyans of all ages reported to have been diagnosed with depression and or anxiety. Results that indicated household wealth index was a significant function of depression and anxiety prevalence were households with health insurance with log odds of 2.403 (P-value 0.0001), people with tertiary education had log odds of 4.769 (P-value 0.0000), and urban residents had log odds of -2.910 (P-value 0.0000), according to the significance values at 95% confidence intervals. Recommendation: It is crucial to implement programs that promote mental health awareness and education. To increase the availability and affordability of mental health services, targeted health insurance initiatives should be created. To increase insurance rates for this group, the government may want to consider providing subsidies or other incentives for mental health care.}, year = {2024}, orcid-numbers = {Hideg, Gabriella/0000-0002-2916-1145; Ágoston, István/0000-0003-0715-8284} } @misc{MTMT:34752551, title = {Prevalence of depression and anxiety among school-going teenagers in Kenya}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34752551}, author = {Mokaya, Peter Onchuru and Hideg, Gabriella}, unique-id = {34752551}, abstract = {Background: Nearly 45% of all diseases affecting young people worldwide are mental health disorders, and they are associated with a variety of detrimental life effects that may last a lifetime. Help is sadly inaccessible for many young people in school who are coping with mental health issues in low- and middle-income countries because of structural hurdles like stigma and a lack of caregiving options. By deepening our understanding of juvenile mental health issues in this setting, we can increase the opportunities for youth with mental health problems in low- and middle-income nations to receive care. In sub-Saharan African nations like Kenya, where 50% of the population is under 19, this requirement is especially critical. Objective: To explore the role of household wealth and related determinants on the prevalence of depression and anxiety. Methods: This study utilizes Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 which was conducted by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. The main outcome variable was the prevalence of depression or anxiety among school-going teenagers who were below the age of twenty. The main explanatory variables are wealth quintiles, rural or urban residents, gender of household head, among others. The prevalence of depression or anxiety was predicted as an outcome using multilevel binary logistic regression with an adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence interval. Depression/anxiety distribution inequality was done by calculating depression/anxiety prevalence relative to the household’s wealth quintile rank. Results: A total of 1.5% of surveyed individuals registered depression/anxiety. Girls scored 59.8% of depression/anxiety prevalence and only 22.2% of the depression/anxiety patients were receiving treatment. Rural areas registered depression/anxiety with 59.8%. Results indicate that the lowest quantile reported Depression/Anxiety with 20.5%. Only 27% of individuals with Depression/Anxiety had completed high school and above. The concentration index of the distribution of Depression/Anxiety was -0.1759 meaning that the distribution of depression and anxiety among school-going children was slightly pro-poor. Recommendation: Put more effort into diagnosing and treating depression/ anxiety among school-going teenagers especially those who come from low-income areas. Since the effect of poor mental health is impacting the education journey of learners, education and health stakeholders need to partner in addressing this issue. Pay more attention to the mental status of the female gender since the evidence indicates that they are more vulnerable to ill mental health compared to their male counterparts.}, year = {2024}, orcid-numbers = {Hideg, Gabriella/0000-0002-2916-1145} } @article{MTMT:34748992, title = {Multicomponent Exercise Intervention for Preventing Falls and Improving Physical Functioning in Older Nursing Home Residents: A Single-Blinded Pilot Randomised Controlled Trial}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34748992}, author = {Sadaqa, Munseef Ahmad Saleh and Al Debes, Wesam and Németh, Zsanett and Bera-Baka, Zsófia and Vachtler-Szepesi, Marianna and Nácziné Földes, Loretta and Prémusz, Viktória and Hock, Márta}, doi = {10.3390/jcm13061577}, journal-iso = {J CLIN MED}, journal = {JOURNAL OF CLINICAL MEDICINE}, volume = {13}, unique-id = {34748992}, year = {2024}, eissn = {2077-0383}, orcid-numbers = {Sadaqa, Munseef Ahmad Saleh/0000-0001-5203-8914; Al Debes, Wesam/0000-0002-8264-4015; Németh, Zsanett/0000-0002-8188-9635; Prémusz, Viktória/0000-0002-4059-104X} }
