AB - In the context of the linear response theory, we examine a non-Hermitian PT-symmetric model with imaginary mass that offers a one-dimensional realization of tachyon physics and describes excitations that are moving faster than the effective speed of light. Additionally, the system can be tuned from the tachyon regime to one with massless excitations with linear dispersion and one with gapped spectrum. We investigate the optical conductivity in all these phases in the presence of a weak external electrical field, and show the preservation of optical sum rules. © 2024 Author(s). AB - We investigate how a non-Hermitian impurity embedded into a free fermion gas affects the density-density response function. In particular, by examining the static response function, we look at how the Friedel oscillations emerge. Our findings indicate that the response function vanishes in the zero-temperature limit, suppressing Friedel oscillations, in contrast to the traditional Hermitian case. We find that temperature, which typically cancels out quantum effects, activates Friedel oscillations near the non-Hermitian imaginary impurity. We calculate these effects to first order and show the presence of oscillations with wave vector 2kF when the non-Hermitian impurity is modeled by a delta potential. © 2024 Author(s).
