This article examines the impact of the COVID-19 fear on climate change beliefs based on an autumn 2020 population survey in the Member States of the European Union and the United Kingdom. The results show that deep COVID-19 concerns increase climate change concerns, awareness, and perceived negative impacts of climate change. These effects are more robust among the lower educated Europeans. On the country level, strict governmental measures are also linked to deep climate change concerns. In contrast to the experience following the 2008 recession, the findings show that a secondary crisis can positively impact climate attitudes, which is a promising result for policy actions.}, year = {2022}, eissn = {1873-6416}, pages = {717-725}, orcid-numbers = {Stefkovics, Ádám/0000-0003-4961-7792} } @article{MTMT:32509492, title = {Electricity Market Liquidity and Price Spikes. Authors have investigated a production function that describes the connection between the production of liquids, energy efficiency and water usage based on the logistic processes. The authors were able to build and simplify it to a linearized Cobb Douglas equation. With the help of mathematical-statistical analysis, the authors found that energy efficiency and water usage have a negative effect on production due to European legal considerations and logistic improvement could help in the solution of the problem. A szélsőséges időjárási események gyakoriságának növekedése, az elhúzódó és egyre intenzívebb hőhullámok, a vízszűkösség új keletű kihívások elé állítják a gazdálkodókat. A kutatás feltárja a hazai agrárgazdaságok klímaváltozással kapcsolatos tapasztalatait és tevékenységeit, továbbá bemutatja a Dunántúl (NUTS 2) országrészben vizsgált vállalkozásoknál megjelenő klímaorientált okos mezőgazdasági (Climate-Smart Agriculture, továbbiakban CSA) megoldásokat, illetve eszközöket, lehetőséget teremtve ezzel a figyelemfelkeltésre, a klímainnovációs tématerület jobb megismerésére és a jó gyakorlatok átadására, ezzel is segítve az ágazat fenntarthatósági szempontból pozitív irányú elmozdulását. Kutatásaink középpontjában az a hipotézis áll, miszerint a CSA-megoldások alkalmazása hatékonyan hozzájárul a fenntartható agrár- és vidékfejlesztés megvalósításához. Tanulmányunkban az országos mintából három dunántúli régió gazdálkodóinak CSA-fókuszú kvalitatív és kvantitatív értékelése kerül bemutatásra, melyben a mitigációs és adaptációs szempontok egyaránt megjelennek. Az eredmények alapján megállapítható, hogy a klímaorientált okos megközelítés a vállalatok, vállalkozások tervezési stratégiáiba, illetve tevékenységi portfóliójába történő beépítése hozzájárulhat ahhoz, hogy a gazdaságok termelékenysége és digitális átállása fenntartható módon váljon fejleszthetővé, miközben a klímakockázatok, az üvegházhatású gázok kibocsátása és az ágazat éghajlatváltozással szembeni sérülékenysége is csökkenthető. A magyarországi fenntartható agrár- és vidékfejlesztés megteremtése érdekében a CSA-eszközök fejlesztése és alkalmazása is meghatározó jelentőségű, kiemelkedő potenciállal bír, hiszen nemcsak az uniós klímapolitikai célokat, hanem a nemzeti helyreállítási és rezilienciaépítési terveket is támogathatja, összhangban a zöld gazdaságfejlesztési célok és a digitális átmenet gyakorlati megvalósításával.}, year = {2021}, pages = {375-396}, orcid-numbers = {Szalmáné Csete, Mária/0000-0001-7170-9402} } @inproceedings{MTMT:32469265, title = {Sustainable smart cities and cognitive mobility}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32469265}, author = {Szalmáné Csete, Mária}, booktitle = {12th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom 2021)}, unique-id = {32469265}, year = {2021}, pages = {975-981}, orcid-numbers = {Szalmáné Csete, Mária/0000-0001-7170-9402} } @inproceedings{MTMT:32238338, title = {Understanding the Relationship Between Fair Competition and Sustainable Production}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32238338}, author = {Poyraz, Anil Yildirim and Szalmáné Csete, Mária}, booktitle = {VII. Numerous concepts and tools have been discussed and incorporated into competition law to secure fair competition. On the other hand, sustainable development and environmental protection have been important topics since the 1970s. This resulted in a debate over the compatibility of these goals. Environmental and societal challenges of the 21st century are forcing us to change the way we produce and consume. Competition law is subject to evolve to keep up with this change. This paper explores the main concepts and instruments about connecting sustainable development goals and fair competition. Priorities and exemptions are the two key concepts that can contribute to this challenge. Setting priority sectors that are essential for an economy and low-income people is an indispensable practice in establishing a competition policy that can contribute to sustainability and inclusive development. Sectoral and non-sectoral exemptions can be utilized in a similar way. Regarding the instruments linking the goals mentioned above, ecolabeling steps forward as an attractive solution. The increasing customer awareness about sustainable production and consumption prompts the demand and leads producers to seek new production methods for greener products. Ecolabeling has the potential to stimulate this objective in case the criteria and implementation are clearly and effectively set. Besides, this can be achieved through comprehensive fair competition regulations, which have been embedded in both competition law and labeling schemes. Based on our examinations, it can be stated that sustainable development and competition policies share similar objectives that can reinforce environmental protection and enhance consumer welfare. Furthermore, a comprehensive and collaborative approach is indispensable to have functioning sustainability and competition rules.}, year = {2021}, pages = {118-126}, orcid-numbers = {Szalmáné Csete, Mária/0000-0001-7170-9402} } @article{MTMT:32201380, title = {Climate-Smart Agriculture: Sleeping Beauty of the Hungarian Agribusiness}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32201380}, author = {Biró, Kinga and Szalmáné Csete, Mária and Németh, Bálint}, doi = {10.3390/su131810269}, journal-iso = {SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL}, journal = {SUSTAINABILITY}, volume = {13}, unique-id = {32201380}, abstract = {Climate change and agriculture interact with each other in many ways and have a complex impact. The agriculture sector needs to be prepared to adapt to the expected effects of climate change, and emphasis must be placed on prevention to achieve emission reduction targets. The research explores the current situation in the agricultural sector, the risks of climate change, as well as the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) solutions that appear at Hungarian agribusiness. Examining the climate innovation activities of farms shows a coherence of the practical application. The research is based on a questionnaire survey of Hungarian agribusiness and the country directorates of the National Chamber of Agriculture. The investigation confirmed that although farmers are susceptible to Agri-Innovation, they only partly exploit the potential of digitalization. For agriculture, the spread of agricultural digitalization and technology transfer is an excellent opportunity to increase agricultural production, maintain and improve its market position, and increase its digital maturity, which can also enhance the integration of climate innovation and sustainability aspects supporting the green economic development.}, year = {2021}, eissn = {2071-1050}, orcid-numbers = {Szalmáné Csete, Mária/0000-0001-7170-9402} }
