This is especially important in finishing procedures, where the final geometry and surface characteristics of the parts are produced. In this paper, three high-feed turning procedures are analysed: skiving turning, tangential turning, and rotational turning. All three promise the creation is ground-like surfaces with low roughness characteristics, while reaching high values of productivity. The analytical determination of these procedures is carried out by the application of constructive tool geometric modeling. After the analysis of the kinematic and geometric relations of each procedure, the proper coordinate systems are defined. The transformational equations are determined, which describe the geometric boundary conditions and the movement of the workpiece and the tool. In the next step, the equation of motion is defined for the three studied procedure. Finally, the one variable equation of the cut surface section in the base plane is determined. Experiments were also carried out, which validated the achieved results. Machining procedures can be analysed from the point of view of the energy efficiency, productivity, surface quality, etc. In this paper the achievable surface quality after the honing process is studied on sleeves with EN-GJL-250 lamellar cast iron alloy material. The cutting experiments were planned according to the 23 full factorial design of experiments method. Two levels of the analysed factors were chosen in this study. The pressure on the honing stone, the feed of the tool and the average grain size are changed, which resulted in 8 experimental setups. After the roughness measurement and profile evaluation, the main effects are analysed of these 3 parameters. Equations were determined according to the principle of the design of experiment method. The effect of the studied machining parameters is analysed by the application of these equations. The findings in this paper make it possible to explain some phenomenon in the honing process and allow the planning of future experiments in this topic. It was found that lower pressure, higher feed, and finer grains are favourable to achieve low roughness values. In the production of aluminium aerosol cans, the final shape is formed in several steps from a disc-shaped blank by back-rolling, and a so-called flange cutting (turning) operation is usually carried out after the flange of the can has been formed. Experience has shown that this operation often results in difficult-to-handle flowing chips, which in some cases can lead to a poor-quality product. In this paper, the material and edge geometry of the insert bit used in the flange turning operation are investigated and edge geometry modification recommendations are made to avoid unfavourable machining conditions.
