Methods: In total, 139 patients (50 men and 89 women; mean age ± SD, 60.19 ± 11.47 years) who suffered from chronic primary tinnitus associated with sensorineural hearing loss were included in the study. Participants underwent pure-tone audiometry and tinnitus pitch matching assessments. Additionally, all participants completed the Hungarian version of the THI questionnaire. Correlations were assessed using simple linear, Spearman’s, and Pearson’s correlation tests, and a linear regression model was applied. The Mann–Whitney U test was also used. Results: This study identified a significant correlation between the pitch of tinnitus and the frequency of hearing loss (p = 0.000 *; rho = 0.549). There was also a significant correlation between tinnitus noise and hearing levels (p = 0.000 *; rho = 0.375). Age was shown to significantly affect tinnitus loudness (p = 0.016 *) and hearing levels (p = 0.000 *) as determined by a linear regression model. Tinnitus duration only significantly influenced tinnitus loudness (p = 0.022). There was no significant effect of sex on tinnitus or audiometry parameters. Total THI scores were influenced solely by tinnitus loudness (p = 0.021 *). Furthermore, sex did have an effect on total THI scores, with women reporting higher scores (p = 0.000 *). Conclusions: This study concluded that there is a significant correlation between the pitch and loudness of tinnitus and hearing levels, suggesting a connection in their underlying mechanisms. The intensity of tinnitus and hearing level are primarily affected by ageing processes. Furthermore, the severity of self-perceived tinnitus is mainly related to the loudness of tinnitus.}, keywords = {Hearing loss; Tinnitus Handicap Inventory; Hearing level; tinnitus pitch; tinnitus loudness; hearing loss frequency}, year = {2024}, eissn = {2077-0383}, orcid-numbers = {Molnár, András/0000-0002-4417-5166; Molnár, Viktória/0000-0002-2508-4429; Tamás, László/0000-0003-3723-9149} } @article{MTMT:35578326, title = {Global cross-sectional student survey on AI in medical, dental, and veterinary education and practice at 192 faculties}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/35578326}, author = {Felix, Busch and Lena, Hoffmann and Daniel, Truhn and Esteban, Ortiz-Prado and Marcus, R. Emellett a lokális alkalmazásnak köszönhetően nagyobb koncentrációban is alkalmazhatók. The overuse of antibiotics has led to the development of antimicrobial resistance. As a result, topical antiseptics maybecome more important in clinical practice. Unlike antibiotics, antiseptics are less likely to induce resistance due totheir unspecific mode of action and high local concentrations. However, there are challenges associated with usingantiseptics, such as tolerability, inactivation by organic matter, and potential side effects. This review focuses on thechallenges of using antiseptics, with a detailed discussion on the antimicrobial properties and possible resistances ofoctenidine dihydrochloride, povidoneiodine, hydrogen {Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are among the most common malignancies in men worldwide. Nevertheless, their clinical management is hampered by the limited availability of reliable predictive and prognostic biomarkers. Protein kinase D (PKD) isoforms contribute to major cellular processes. However, their potential role in HNSCC has not been studied systematically, which is the focus of this study. A total of 63 therapy-naive patients with squamous cell carcinoma were consecutively enrolled. Tissue microarray duplicate cores from each case were tested in situ for PKD1, PKD2, and PKD3 expression using immunohistochemistry, and the results were correlated with clinicopathological parameters. We found a high frequency of PKD1/PKD2 positive cases in oropharyngeal and PKD2 positive cases in laryngeal localizations. Only high PKD2 levels were statistically linked to elevated tumor grades, more advanced TNM (3–4) tumor stages, and p16INK4a expression, while elevated PKD3 levels were associated with favorable disease-specific survival. Both PKD2 and PKD3 have been proposed to promote tumor cell proliferation, migration/invasion, and angiogenesis. However, the role of PKD3 was elusive in some cancers. Our findings suggest that testing for PKD isotypes with immunohistochemistry may support the diagnostic estimation of tumor progression and prognosis in HNSCC with a potential therapeutic relevance.}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1422-0067}, orcid-numbers = {Gurbi, Bianka/0000-0002-5635-6255; Dános, Kornél/0000-0002-3829-8266; Birtalan, Ede/0000-0002-5699-3545; Krenács, Tibor/0000-0001-9164-065X; Kovács, Borbála/0000-0001-6864-6041; Tamás, László/0000-0003-3723-9149; Csala, Miklós/0000-0002-3829-4361} } @article{MTMT:35162164, title = {Prognostic nutritional index (PNI) correlates with survival in head and neck cancer patients more precisely than other nutritional markers – real world data}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/35162164}, author = {Uri, Imre and Horváth, Angéla and Tamás, László and Polony, Gábor and Dános, Kornél}, doi = {10.1007/s00405-024-08865-w}, journal-iso = {EUR ARCH OTO-RHINO-L}, journal = {EUROPEAN ARCHIVES OF OTO-RHINO-LARYNGOLOGY}, volume = {281}, unique-id = {35162164}, issn = {0937-4477}, abstract = {The survival benefit with higher body mass index (BMI) of patients suffering from head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is documented as BMI paradox.
