This is astrue in a monolingual environment as it is in a bilingual ormultilingual linguistic situation, but it is fair to assume that thetwo different linguistic environments are associated with thedominance of different attitudes and ideologies. Among therelated research, it is hard tofind any that examine the differencebetween monolinguals and multilinguals from the perspective oflanguage bias, especially in thefield of education. The presentstudy explores the language ideologies and attitudes ofHungarian language teachers. The study was based on thelanguage attitudes of 502 Hungarian language teachers, of whom57% teach in a bilingual setting and 43% in a monolingualenvironment. The research instrument was a tool similar to averbal guise test. It was used to assess standard and non-standard language variants, the students who use them and theiroral presentations to the teachers included in the survey. Theprimary hypothesis, that bilingual or multilingual teachers aremore linguistically tolerant than their monolingual colleagues,was not confirmed.
