Mobile IPv6, the well-known IETF standard for network-level mobility management, is not an exemption. Cloud-native Mobile IPv6 has acquired several new capabilities due to the technological advancements of NFV/SDN evolution. This paper presents how automatic failover and scaling can be envisioned in the context of cloud-native Mobile IPv6 with closed-loop orchestration on the top of the Open Network Automation Platform. Numerical results are also presented to indicate the usefulness of the new operational features (failover, scaling) driven by the cloud-native approach and highlight the advantages of network automation in virtualized and softwarized environments. Calculation method is shown for fixed fiber-wireless system, in which ‘fiber-like’ SLA (Service Level Agreement) has to be achieved. As shown, in ITU rainzone "K" Gbps throughputs can be achieved with mmW radios. Naturally, shorter radio links provide higher fade margins and better availability. However, as it is shown with a simple example, better system level availability may be achieved by connecting the radio to a FTTRN (Fiber to the Radio Node) where the fiber sections are protected or part of a loop. In practice, satisfying the availability target may require selecting a longer wireless link and not the shortest hop in an urban network environment. One of the major motivations is the possibility to use commercial IT hardware as platform, due to cost efficiency and the common required experience for hardware (HW) operation and maintenance. The growing demand for decoupling HW and application SW requires an increasing utilization of virtualization. On top of IT-grade HW, the virtualized network functions can be deployed to the cloud. However, to fulfill the strict requirements of telecommunication networks on cloud, there are special configurations and best practices that shall be followed. These led to the notion of 'Telco-Cloud'. The rapidly increasing amount of cloud-based Virtual Network Functions introduced new concepts for dimensioning, deployment, operation, management, licensing, and monitoring. Several established availability and operability requirements and expectations are inherited also from the legacy world of Physical Network Functions, meanwhile the telecommunication world itself undergoes a continuous change towards the new worlds of Telco-Cloud and 5G. This paper gives an overview of the transition to Telco-Cloud, basic dimensioning and availability design concepts and some operability challenges are discussed. Finally, a few examples are shown from research and development, as well as feedback from real operator networks. This would boost the operational costs of 5G network operators planning country-wide coverage for uRLL services. This paper examines how these operational expenses dominated by administrative costs can be reduced without impacting the quality of the provided uRLL service. Our results indicate that hosting uRLL services in unattended datacenters with increased hardware redundancy schemes can produce significant cost savings.
