A vizsgálat változóinak összefüggésvizsgálatához nemparaméteres statisztikai eljárást, a Pearson-féle khi-négyzet-próbát alkalmaztuk. A vizsgálat eredménye alapján megállapítottuk, hogy a legerősebb motiváló tényező a külföldi munkavállalás.}, year = {2024}, pages = {186-202}, orcid-numbers = {Farkas, János/0000-0002-9756-6574} } @article{MTMT:34484468, title = {The Relations between Students’ Intercultural Communication Competencies and Employability}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34484468}, author = {Lázár, Timea and Farkas, János and Hajdu, Zita and Tar, Ildikó Éva and Czellér, Mária and D'Arrigo, Marcella}, doi = {10.37441/cejer/2023/5/2/13222}, journal-iso = {CENTR EUR J EDUC RES}, journal = {CENTRAL EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH}, volume = {5}, unique-id = {34484468}, abstract = {In today’s globalised world, businesses operate on an international level. Most business and economics graduates will interact with colleagues, clients, and partners from diverse cultural backgrounds. Intercultural competencies are essential for their success and effective collaboration in the labour market. A special questionnaire was compiled to investigate students’ intercultural competencies. Based on the statements and responses of the questionnaire, the examination aimed to establish the principal components of the intercultural communication competencies of the students of a Hungarian university. In the next phase of the research, the principal components served to create student clusters which were analysed from a labour market point of view, focusing on advantages and disadvantages. The crucial question was: which cluster is in demand the most in the labour market? By utilizing a principal component analysis, the dataset was reduced to three key components. Subsequently, to classify the students into groups, a multivariate statistical procedure, i.e., cluster analysis, was used to reveal the structures by clearly considering the similarities of a relatively heterogeneous population and to create a relatively homogeneous subset. The study revealed five distinct student clusters, each with varying advantages and disadvantages for employers. In this context, the Interculturally Active and Open with Good Language Skills cluster proved to be the most competent, with the least ideal collection indisputably being the Interculturally Reluctant in Cooperating cluster. The research underscores the importance of intercultural communication competencies for employees and enriches our understanding of the dynamics between intercultural communication competencies and workforce readiness. Idetartoznak a döntéshozó, tervezési, szervezési, együttműködési, problémamegoldó, tárgyalási, prezentációs, interkulturális és informatikai készségek, amelyeket a munkáltatók egyre gyakrabban ellenőriznek új munkaerő felvételekor. That is the reason why the Institute of Business Communication and Professional Language Studies at Debrecen University found it essential to introduce the development of these highly demanded competences in the curriculum of the technical language courses. The paper describes how workplace skills and foreign language competencies can be compiled in one curriculum with particular emphasis on the application of IT skills in foreign language courses. Since a major task of universities is to prepare students for the tasks of assessment centres and other stages of the selection process, the testing of non-cognitive skills should also be integrated into the teaching material. The expected results of the program include: achieving a higher level of professional language and soft skills, increased student confidence in workplace situations and improved general communication skills.}, keywords = {Curriculum; employability skills; skill assessment; foreign language competencies}, year = {2023}, pages = {108-119}, orcid-numbers = {Farkas, János/0000-0002-9756-6574} } @article{MTMT:34028878, title = {The Dunning-Kruger Effect in Knowledge Management Examination of BSc Level Business Students}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34028878}, author = {Kun, András István and Farkas, János and Juhász, Csilla}, doi = {10.21791/IJEMS.2023.1.3.}, journal-iso = {IJEMS MMTK}, journal = {INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES / MŰSZAKI ÉS MENEDZSMENT TUDOMÁNYI KÖZLEMÉNYEK}, volume = {8}, unique-id = {34028878}, issn = {2498-700X}, abstract = {The Dunning-Kruger effect (DKE) in higher education evaluation is one of the current research areas of psychology, educational science, and management science (in our case). Its importance is that the less prepared one is, the less accurately one can judge what performance is expected of him. What is more, he will err more and will overestimate himself. The present study aims better to understand the phenomenon with new, small-sample empirical results. The study is part of a research series that has been ongoing at the University of Debrecen since 2015. It not only quantitatively expands the literature but also includes the course of Knowledge Management among those examined. During the research, students were asked both before the examination (N = 63) and after the examination (N = 76) to guess how many points they would achieve on a multiple-choice test. It supports the presence of DKE, both in the case of pre-examination and post-examination self-evaluations. Using four multivariate linear regression models, we examined whether the sign value or absolute value of the errors made during the guesses show a correlation - in addition to the available control variables - with the test score. Our results showed that the more accurate the pre- examination and post-examination estimations were, the higher the students' actual score was, while the less they tended to overestimate their preparation. The advent of multinational companies, including SSCs (Shared Service Centres), has impacted the labour market both internationally and domestically. The activity and the management of these companies have increasingly required good intercultural communication competencies and a high level of foreign language skills from graduate entrants. Considering multinational companies' predominantly culturally diverse environments, where employees can only complete their jobs effectively and successfully if they possess the necessary skills, the expectations are hardly surprising. Internationalisation has also influenced university education. International students often come to Hungarian higher education institutions to participate in international programmes offered by universities.
