We describe for the first time the aedeagus of the species. The distribution data show that the species is endemic to the western Carpathians, Romania. This extremely small distribution area is a good sign of the relictary character of the species. The species is polyphagous, found mainly on Picea abies, Rubus idaeus, Salix caprea and Fagus silvatica. Adults prefer young spruce. For comparison, we present aspects of morphology, distribution and ecology of the closely related species Otiorhynchus (Elechranus) chrysonus Boheman, 1843. This species has a wider distribution, found from Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. We highlight its presence on Fraxinus excelsior. For the synthesis of the composites two noble metal reduction methods (in situ and impregnation) and three noble metal deposition routes (i.e., by changing their deposition order, Au/Pt, Pt/Au, and Au-Pt simultaneously) were used. The photocatalytic performances of the nanocomposites were evaluated under UV irradiation, through degradation of oxalic acid and photocatalytic hydrogen production. The best performing photocatalyst was obtained by sequential noble metal deposition (first Au followed by Pt) on Evonik Aeroxide P25. The morphological and structural properties were studied/investigated by using DRS, TEM, HRTEM, EDX, and XRD. The gold and platinum nanoparticles formed clusters in most of the cases. Furthermore, the ecotoxicity of the composites was investigated using Lemna minor growth inhibition tests using static "lake" approach completed by DLS and ROS indirect measurements. The toxic effect of the composites which showed the highest photocatalytic activity did not differ from that of their commercial counterparts, showing that these nanoparticles were eco-friendly. This result shows the great capacity of these materials to be used in the next future in photocatalytic applications.}, keywords = {Lemna minor; Photoactivity; Commercial titania; Gold and platinum; Ccotoxicology}, year = {2018}, eissn = {2168-0485}, pages = {12993-13006}, orcid-numbers = {Kovács, Gábor/0000-0001-9622-5471; Czekes, Zsolt/0000-0002-5615-5883; Hernádi, Klára/0000-0001-9419-689X; Pap, Zsolt/0000-0002-8049-0809} } @article{MTMT:3121388, title = {Conservation implications of source-sink dynamics within populations of endangered Maculinea butterflies}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/3121388}, author = {Natalia, Timus and Czekes, Zsolt and Laszlo, Rákosy and Piotr, Nowicki}, doi = {10.1007/s10841-016-9906-6}, journal-iso = {J INSECT CONSERV}, journal = {JOURNAL OF INSECT CONSERVATION}, volume = {21}, unique-id = {3121388}, issn = {1366-638X}, abstract = {Conservation programmes are often based on snapshot information on animal abundance. However, land fragments with high numbers of individuals do not necessarily represent their natal areas, which are crucial for species persistence. A classic example of the above principle are source-sink systems, in which excess individuals emigrate from source areas during their lifetime and gather in sink areas. We demonstrated the existence of source-sink dynamics in two species of endangered Maculinea (=Phengaris) butterflies. Sympatrically occurring M. nausithous and M. teleius were investigated with mark-recapture sampling during the entire flight period. In the first half of the season a great majority of butterflies were captured within the relatively small central part of the site, while later their numbers became similar between the site centre and its peripheries. The analysis of movements indicated that most individuals captured in the peripheral zone eclosed in the central zone. Moreover, the timing of the sharp increase in movements from the site centre to its peripheries corresponded well with the period when the number of eggs laid in the former area reached carrying capacity, defined by the number of the Sanguisorba officinalis foodplant flowerheads available for oviposition. Within the peripheral zone the foodplant availability greatly exceeded the egg load, but in contrast the abundance of host ants (i.e. the other essential resource) was low, which presumably results in low Maculinea larval survival there. Our findings imply that setting conservation priorities over different land fragments should take into account dispersion of individuals among them.}, year = {2017}, eissn = {1572-9753}, pages = {369-378}, orcid-numbers = {Czekes, Zsolt/0000-0002-5615-5883} }
