In this paper, we suggest a time variant matched filter, which, unlike a regular matched filter, maintains a given alignment between the input signal and the template carrying the pattern, and can be realized recursively. We introduce a method to synchronize the two signals for presence detection, usable in case direct synchronization between the signal generator and the receiver is not possible or not practical. We then propose a way of realizing and extending the same filter by modifying a recursive spectral observer, which gives rise to orthogonal filter channels and also leads to another way to synchronize the two signals. Péceli, with the aim of improving the detectability of a known periodic signal component in its input signal. Possibilities for modeling a signal structure assuming the amplitude and phase relationships between its components to be known are presented. At CERN, a new BLM system for the pre-accelerators of the LHC is currently at an advanced stage of development. This contribution reports on a new method which aims to automatically and continuously ensure the proper connection and performance of the detectors used in the new BLM system. Additionally, the higher the energy and intensity of the particle beams, the more important the role of the BLM system in machine protection, which becomes critical for machines employing superconducting devices. A continuous and comprehensive surveillance of the entire BLM signal chain, in particular the functionality and connectivity of the detectors, is therefore essential. Nevertheless, no particle accelerator has this feature at present. This paper explores the options for implementing such a process for a new BLM system currently in development at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN). It is often implemented with the use of an electrocardiograph (ECG). This thesis project was executed at Mediso Medical Imaging Systems. The main objective was the development of an ECG system aimed at cardiac gating, to be used in the pre-clinical (small animal) and clinical (human) imaging devices of the company. The ECG system is based on a microcontroller and an ECG-specific analog frontend. Prototype hardware was created using development kits and the appropriate firmware was developed. Since the tests carried out with the prototype system confirmed the suitability of the concept, the final hardware was designed. The process is explained in detail. Cardiac gating also finds use in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), but this causes challenges in ECG acquisition. Measurements were carried out to assess the usability of the prototype system in MRI. These results are also reported. LA - English DB - MTMT ER -
