To accomplish this, a versatile post-compression platform was developed, where the 100 fs near infrared pulses were post-compressed to the sub-two-cycle regime in a hybrid, three-stage configuration. After each stage, the duration of the compressed pulse was measured with the d-scan, TIPTOE and SRSI techniques and the retrieved temporal intensity profiles, spectrum and spectral phases were compared. Spectral homogeneity was also measured with an imaging spectrometer to understand the input coupling conditions of the temporal measurements. Our findings suggest that the different devices give similar results in terms of temporal intensity profile, however they are extremely sensitive to alignment and to beam quality, especially in the case of the shortest pulses. These modifications on the system were done based on the feedback from the experimental end-stations during the last 3 years. First, the long virtual propagation of the super-Gaussian output beam reduced by modifying the imaging telescope after the amplification stages, which significantly improved the beam profile hindered by the propagation-related diffraction pattern. The optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) stages were equipped with new nonlinear crystals which enabled to reach 42 mJ output energy with <8 fs pulse duration, which is 10 mJ more than the previous configuration. To increase the high-harmonic generation (HHG) efficiency a spatial filter was installed in the laser system which provides a nearly Gaussian beam profile at the output with 80% transmission. The spatial filter is based on a glass cone and is operated under vacuum. Currently, >20 mJ, <8 fs CEP-stable pulses are provided at the user stations after the beam transport system. © 2023 SPIE.}, keywords = {ULTRASHORT PULSES; Nonlinear optics; Parametric amplification; Parametric amplification; High harmonic generation; Harmonic generation; Gaussian beams; Laser systems; Laser optics; Spatial filters; Optical parametric amplifiers; high-harmonic generation; Beamforming; OPCPA; spatial filter; Super-Gaussian; Optical parametric chirped pulses amplification; TW-level; TW-level; End stations; Gaussian output; Recent status}, year = {2023}, orcid-numbers = {Csontos, János/0000-0003-2785-536X; Tóth, Szabolcs/0000-0002-8516-3962; Somoskői, Tamás/0000-0003-1696-4085; Prasannan Geetha, Prabhash/0000-0003-4051-368X; Lopez-Martens, Rodrigo/0000-0001-6788-7791} } @article{MTMT:34088981, title = {Ion acceleration with few-cycle relativistic laser pulses from foil targets}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34088981}, author = {Ter-Avetisyan, Sargis and Varmazyar, Parvin and Singh, Prashant K and Son, Joon-Gon and Füle, Miklós Jenő and Bychenkov, Valery Yu and Farkas, Balázs and Nelissen, Kwinten and Mondal, Sudipta and Papp, Dániel and Börzsönyi, Ádám and Csontos, János and Lécz, Zsolt and Somoskői, Tamás and Tóth, László Tamás and Tóth, Szabolcs and Andriy, Velyhan and Margarone, Daniele and Necas, Ales and Mourou, Gerard and Szabó, Gábor and Osvay, Károly}, doi = {10.1088/1361-6587/acde0a}, journal-iso = {PLASMA PHYS CONTR F}, journal = {PLASMA PHYSICS AND CONTROLLED FUSION}, volume = {65}, unique-id = {34088981}, issn = {0741-3335}, abstract = {Ion acceleration resulting from the interaction of 11 fs laser pulses of ∼ 35 mJ energy with ultrahigh contrast (<10 −10 ) and 10 19 W cm −2 peak intensity with foil targets made of various materials and thicknesses at normal (0°) and 45° laser incidence is investigated. The maximum energy of the protons reached ∼1.4 MeV accelerated in the laser propagation direction and ∼1.2 MeV in the opposite direction from a formvar target. The energy conversion efficiency from the laser to the proton beam is estimated to be as high as ∼1.4% at 45° laser incidence using a 51 nm thick Al target. The high laser contrast indicates the predominance of vacuum heating via Brunel’s effect as an absorption mechanism involving a tiny pre-plasma at the target front. The experimental results are in reasonable agreement with theoretical estimates, where proton acceleration from the target front side in the backward direction is well explained by the Coulomb explosion of a charged cavity formed in a tiny pre-plasma, while forward proton acceleration is likely to be a two-step process: protons are first accelerated in the target front-side cavity and then further boosted in energy through the target back side via the target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA) mechanism.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1361-6587}, orcid-numbers = {Ter-Avetisyan, Sargis/0000-0003-3842-6472; Füle, Miklós Jenő/0000-0001-6996-2329; Bychenkov, Valery Yu/0000-0001-9624-3813; Nelissen, Kwinten/0000-0002-0646-1671; Mondal, Sudipta/0000-0002-1789-9433; Papp, Dániel/0000-0002-7954-3686; Csontos, János/0000-0003-2785-536X; Lécz, Zsolt/0000-0001-5968-8012; Somoskői, Tamás/0000-0003-1696-4085; Tóth, Szabolcs/0000-0002-8516-3962; Szabó, Gábor/0000-0001-6756-4677; Osvay, Károly/0000-0002-3468-8312} } @article{MTMT:33543921, title = {Single thin-plate compression of multi-TW laser pulses to 3.9 fs}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33543921}, author = {Tóth, Szabolcs and Nagymihály, Roland Sándor and Seres, Imre and Lehotai, Levente and Csontos, János and Tóth, László Tamás and Prasannan Geetha, Prabhash and Somoskői, Tamás and Kajla, Barna and Abt, Dániel and Pajer, Viktor and Farkas, Arnold Péter and Mohácsi, Árpád and Börzsönyi, Ádám and Osvay, Károly}, doi = {10.1364/OL.478253}, journal-iso = {OPT LETT}, journal = {OPTICS LETTERS}, volume = {48}, unique-id = {33543921}, issn = {0146-9592}, abstract = {Post-compression of 12-fs laser pulses with multi-TW peak power from an optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) system was performed by using a single thin fused silica plate in a vacuum.
