Archaeological evidence indicates that the quadripus is closely related to the Seuso Treasure. Elemental composition and lead isotope analyses of samples taken from the various parts of the folding stand were performed by using LA-QICP-MS and MC-ICP-MS methods in order to determine the provenance of raw material used and the production technology. The silver quadripus consists of rather pure silver (92.5–96.5%) intentionally alloyed with copper. The different trace element composition (Bi, Au, Pb) of the various parts (base, lower part, griffin, upper part, finial, cross bands) indicates the use of different silver batches implying that the various parts were made separately, and then soldered together with hard solders. The same parts of the two original feet are very similar regarding their elemental composition and lead isotope ratios suggesting series production. The nearly constant gold and lead contents of the object indicate that not re-used or re-melted, but primary, cupelled silver was used for manufacturing. The lead isotope ratios of the quadripus cover a quite narrow range ( 206 Pb/ 204 Pb = 18.514–18.717; 207 Pb/ 204 Pb = 15.645–15.667; 208 Pb/ 204 Pb = 38.592–38.817). Comparing our results to the lead isotope data of the European lead-silver ores, and taking into consideration the archaeological evidences, the silver used for manufacturing the quadripus could come from the Balkan region.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1866-9565}, orcid-numbers = {Mozgai, Viktória/0000-0001-9712-2773; Bajnóczi, Bernadett/0000-0003-0006-7611; Pernicka, E/0000-0003-4746-9239} } @article{MTMT:33873344, title = {A new Roman period carriage grave and horse burial from Belvárdgyula (Baranya County)}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33873344}, author = {Mráv, Zsolt and Neményi, Réka}, doi = {10.36338/ha.2023.1.4}, journal-iso = {HUNG ARCHAEOL}, journal = {HUNGARIAN ARCHAEOLOGY}, volume = {12}, unique-id = {33873344}, abstract = {This study discusses the discovery and excavation of a particularly fascinating Roman Period burial representing a rare mortuary rite alongside its preliminary assessment. The burial was discovered by a local archaeology enthusiast on the outskirts of Belvárdgyula: the following excavation in autumn 2021 brought to light a grave pit containing a carriage with a horse team and the burial of a harnessed saddle horse. The carriage is noteworthy not only for its Bacchic bronze sculptural ornamentation and its structural elements but also because of the burial mode involving the partial deposition of carriage components and the yoke, enabling the reconstruction of the horse team. The horse burial provided yet another example of a Pannonian saddle horse interred with an openwork bronze harness fitting set. Both graves yielded a surprisingly high amount of organic remains (wood, leather, and textile) that have enriched our knowledge of the period’s horse harnesses and team-drawn carriages. The burials uncovered at Belvárdgyula have added new details to our overall picture of the local native population of eastern Transdanubia, particularly regarding carriage graves, a distinctive burial type that differs markedly from the funerary rites of Roman-type interments.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {2416-0296}, pages = {10-22} } @article{MTMT:33863473, title = {Egy új császárkori kocsi- és lósír feltárása Belvárdgyulán (Baranya megye)}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33863473}, author = {Mráv, Zsolt and Neményi, Réka}, doi = {10.36245/mr.2023.1.4}, journal-iso = {MAGY RÉGÉSZ}, journal = {MAGYAR RÉGÉSZET}, volume = {12}, unique-id = {33863473}, abstract = {Tanulmányunkban egy különösen izgalmas és rítusát tekintve ritka római kori temetkezés előkerülésével, feltárásának történetével és előzetes értékelésével foglalkozunk. Ez a sírlelet a közösségi régészetnek köszönhetően vált ismertté Belvárdgyula határában, ahol a 2021 őszén lezajlott feltárás egy császárkori fogatos kocsit és egy felszerszámozott hátaslovat tartalmazó sírgödröt hozott napvilágra. A kocsi nemcsak a bakkhikus témájú bronz szobrászati díszítése vagy egyes szerkezeti megoldásai miatt különleges, hanem figyelemre méltó a gödörbe hiányosan deponált kocsielemek eltemetésének a módja és a kettős fogat teljesen rekonstruálható járma is. A lósír pedig újabb példáját adta az áttört díszítésű bronz lószerszámveret-garnitúrával eltemetett pannoniai hátaslovaknak. Mindkét sírban meglepően sok szerves maradvány (fa, bőr, textil) őrződött meg, amelyek új eredményekkel gazdagították a lószerszámok és a fogatos kocsik kutatását. A belvárdgyulai síregyüttes tovább árnyalta a Kelet-Dunántúlon lakó helyi, őslakos elitről kialakult képünket is, elsősorban a római típusú temetkezési szokásoktól eltérő jellegzetes temetkezéseik, a kocsisírok rítusával kapcsolatban.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {2416-0288}, pages = {10-22} }
