Methods: In total, 139 patients (50 men and 89 women; mean age ± SD, 60.19 ± 11.47 years) who suffered from chronic primary tinnitus associated with sensorineural hearing loss were included in the study. Participants underwent pure-tone audiometry and tinnitus pitch matching assessments. Additionally, all participants completed the Hungarian version of the THI questionnaire. Correlations were assessed using simple linear, Spearman’s, and Pearson’s correlation tests, and a linear regression model was applied. The Mann–Whitney U test was also used. Results: This study identified a significant correlation between the pitch of tinnitus and the frequency of hearing loss (p = 0.000 *; rho = 0.549). There was also a significant correlation between tinnitus noise and hearing levels (p = 0.000 *; rho = 0.375). Age was shown to significantly affect tinnitus loudness (p = 0.016 *) and hearing levels (p = 0.000 *) as determined by a linear regression model. Tinnitus duration only significantly influenced tinnitus loudness (p = 0.022). There was no significant effect of sex on tinnitus or audiometry parameters. Total THI scores were influenced solely by tinnitus loudness (p = 0.021 *). Furthermore, sex did have an effect on total THI scores, with women reporting higher scores (p = 0.000 *). Conclusions: This study concluded that there is a significant correlation between the pitch and loudness of tinnitus and hearing levels, suggesting a connection in their underlying mechanisms. The intensity of tinnitus and hearing level are primarily affected by ageing processes. Furthermore, the severity of self-perceived tinnitus is mainly related to the loudness of tinnitus.}, keywords = {Hearing loss; Tinnitus Handicap Inventory; Hearing level; tinnitus pitch; tinnitus loudness; hearing loss frequency}, year = {2024}, eissn = {2077-0383}, orcid-numbers = {Molnár, András/0000-0002-4417-5166; Molnár, Viktória/0000-0002-2508-4429; Tamás, László/0000-0003-3723-9149} } @article{MTMT:34629686, title = {Possibilities and limits of modelling of long-range economic consequences of air pollution. a case study}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34629686}, author = {Lakner, Zoltán and Popp, József and Oláh, Judit and Zéman, Zoltán and Molnár, Viktória}, doi = {10.1016/j.heliyon.2024.e26483}, journal-iso = {HELIYON}, journal = {HELIYON}, volume = {10}, unique-id = {34629686}, year = {2024}, eissn = {2405-8440}, orcid-numbers = {Popp, József/0000-0003-0848-4591; Oláh, Judit/0000-0003-2247-1711; Molnár, Viktória/0000-0002-2508-4429} } @article{MTMT:34178890, title = {Analysis of possible risk factors for the severity of paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome.}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34178890}, author = {Dékány, Lea and Molnár, Viktória and Molnár, András and Bikov, András and Lázár, Zsófia and Csenteri, Orsolya and Benedek, Pálma Edina}, doi = {10.1007/s00405-023-08237-w}, journal-iso = {EUR ARCH OTO-RHINO-L}, journal = {EUROPEAN ARCHIVES OF OTO-RHINO-LARYNGOLOGY}, volume = {280}, unique-id = {34178890}, issn = {0937-4477}, abstract = {This study aimed to determine the effect of body mass index (BMI) percentile, asthma, sex, and age on the paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) severity. Furthermore, to determine the possible predictive role of the BMI percentile and age in severe OSA.This retrospective study included 921 children aged 2-18 years diagnosed with OSA by polysomnography. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), Spearman's correlation, Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) analyses were performed and area under the curve (AUC) was determined. We observed a significant association between a higher BMI percentile and the severity of OSA (p < 0.001, ρ = 0.15). The correlation also was significant under (p = 0.007, ρ = 0.11) and over 7 (p = 0.0002, ρ = 0.23) years of age. There was no association between the severity of OSA and the presence of asthma (p = 0.9) or sex (p = 0.891), respectively. Age was significantly related to OSA severity (p = 0.01, ρ = 0.08). Although both the BMI percentile (0.59 AUC [0.54-0.65]) and age (0.58 AUC [0.52-0.63]) predicted severe OSA, according to the sensitivity and specificity values of the ROC curve, the association presents a slight clinical relevance.OSA severity is determined by the BMI percentile and age in children; however, these factors are unsuitable for predicting severe OSA in clinical practice. Based on our results, obesity is also a significant risk factor for OSA in younger children. Vizsgálatunk során három különböző percutan dilatatiós tracheostomás technikát alkalmaztunk. Célunk volt a megfelelő magasságban behelyezett légcsőkanüllel összefüggő antropometriai paraméterek azonosítása. Anyag és módszerek: Randomizált, kontrollált obszervációs cadavervizsgálatunk során 118 esetet vizsgáltunk. A tracheostomás technikák közül a Griggs-technikát (n = 37), az Élő szerint módosított Griggs-technikát (n = 45) és a Ciaglia szerinti Blue Rhino folyamatos tágítást (n = 36) alkalmaztuk. Megmértük a cadaverek nyakkörfogatát, jugulomentalis távolságát és felkarkörfogatát. Megvizsgáltuk ezek összefüggését a tracheostomás kanül helyzetével. Methods Based on the results of the polysomnography performed, the 100 patients in the study were grouped as follows: non-OSA, mild OSA and moderately severe–severe OSA. Anthropometric measurements were performed, and the Berlin and Epworth questionnaires were completed. Results OSA prediction based on body mass index (BMI), gender and age was accurate in 81% of cases. With the completion of the questionnaires, accuracy rose to 83%. The Epworth questionnaire alone yielded a correct OSA prediction in 75%, while the Berlin questionnaire was correct in 62% of all cases. The best results for categorization by severity were obtained by combining BMI, gender and age parameters, together with responses to the questionnaires (71%). Supplemented with neck circumference, this result improves slightly (73%). One hundred patients were enrolled in this prospective investigation, who were divided into control (non-OSA) and mild, moderately severe, and severe OSA according to polysomnography. All participants underwent drug-induced sleep endoscopy, anthropometric measurements, and neck MRI. The statistical analyses were based on artificial intelligence. The midsagittal SAT, the parapharyngeal fat, and the midsagittal tongue fat were significantly correlated with BMI; however, no correlation with AHI was observed. Upper-airway obstruction was correctly categorised in 80% in the case of the soft palate, including parapharyngeal AT, sex, and neck circumference parameters. Oropharyngeal obstruction was correctly predicted in 77% using BMI, parapharyngeal AT, and abdominal circumferences, while tongue-based obstruction was correctly predicted in 79% using BMI. OSA could be predicted with 99% precision using anthropometric parameters and AT values from the MRI.
