These factors lead to airflow obstruction and chronic respiratory symptoms. Additionally, the increased risk of infections exacerbates airway inflammation in COPD patients. As a consequence of the complex pathomechanisms and difficulty in treatment, COPD is among the leading causes of mortality both in the western countries and in the developing world. Results: The management of COPD is still a challenge for the clinicians; however, alternative interventions such as smoking cessation and lifestyle changes from a sedentary life to moderate physical activity with special attention to the diet may ameliorate patients’ health. Here, we reviewed the effects of different dietary components and supplements on the conditions of COPD. Conclusions: COPD patients are continuously exposed to heavy metals, which are commonly present in cigarette smoke and polluted air. Meanwhile, they often experience significant nutrient deficiencies, which affect the detoxification of these toxic metals. This in turn can further disrupt nutritional balance by interfering with the absorption, metabolism, and utilization of essential micronutrients. Therefore, awareness and deliberate efforts should be made to check levels of micronutrients, with special attention to ensuring adequate levels of antioxidants, vitamin D, vitamin K2, magnesium, and iron, as these may be particularly important in reducing the risk of COPD development and limiting disease severity.}, year = {2025}, eissn = {2072-6643}, orcid-numbers = {Kanizsai, Iván/0000-0003-0109-7097; Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632} } @article{MTMT:36092129, title = {Photobleaching alters the morphometric analysis of fluorescently labeled neurons and microglial cells}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36092129}, author = {Polgár, Tamás Ferenc and Spisák, Krisztina and Kádár, Zalán and Alodah, Nora and Szebeni, Gábor and Klein, Kata and Patai, Roland and Siklós, László and Nógrádi, Bernát}, doi = {10.3389/pore.2025.1612087}, journal-iso = {PATHOL ONCOL RES}, journal = {PATHOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY RESEARCH}, volume = {31}, unique-id = {36092129}, issn = {1219-4956}, abstract = {Photobleaching of immunofluorescence signal is a well-known phenomenon, however, its impact on derived parameters characterizing number and shape of different cell types in tissue sections is less understood. Our aim was to determine whether the duration of illumination and the type of fluorophore (Alexa Fluor 546 (A546), and Alexa Fluor 488 Plus (A488)) can influence the acquired morphometric parameters of cells in the nervous system. Immunofluorescent staining of microglia and neurons was performed on mouse spinal cord sections. Mean color intensity in a field of view, number of detectable neuronal cell profiles, partial coverage of microglial profiles, and fractal geometrical parameters were determined. All measurements were made using epifluorescence microscopy with identical acquisition parameters. Most of the measured parameters suffered significant alternation after 30–60 s of illumination. The data-altering effect of photobleaching was most prominent in the case of mean fluorescent intensity. Thus, while immunofluorescent staining is useful for co-localizing different groups of cells, cell-specific quantitative morphological measurements require photostable staining. Possibility of the combination of these methods on the same section in order to achieve multi-channel localization without photobleaching is exemplified.}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1532-2807}, orcid-numbers = {Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632} } @article{MTMT:36099827, title = {Multiplex immunophenotyping of human acute myeloid leukemia patients revealed single -cell heterogeneity with special attention on therapy sensitive and therapy resistant subpopulations}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36099827}, author = {Gémes, Nikolett and Rónaszéki, Benedek and Modok, Szabolcs and Borbényi, Zita and Földesi, Imre and Trucza, Éva Gabriella and Godza, Blanka and László, Zsuzsanna and Csernus, Balázs and Krenács, László and Bagdi, Enikő and Szabó, Enikő and Puskás, László and Bertagnolo, Valeria and Szebeni, Gábor}, doi = {10.3389/fimmu.2025.1563386}, journal-iso = {FRONT IMMUNOL}, journal = {FRONTIERS IN IMMUNOLOGY}, volume = {16}, unique-id = {36099827}, issn = {1664-3224}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1664-3224}, orcid-numbers = {Földesi, Imre/0000-0002-3329-8136; Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632} } @article{MTMT:36127802, title = {Characterization of the Antiproliferative and Antimetastatic Properties of Centrapalus pauciflorus Meroterpenoid Centrapalus Coumarin F}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36127802}, author = {Ali, Hazhmat and Rasool, Shelan and Saidu, Muhammad Bello and Germán, Péter and Szebeni, Gábor and Szabó, Enikő and Rédei, Dóra and Hohmann, Judit and Zupkó, István}, doi = {10.3390/ijms26104489}, journal-iso = {INT J MOL SCI}, journal = {INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES}, volume = {26}, unique-id = {36127802}, issn = {1661-6596}, abstract = {The current study examined the in vitro antineoplastic potentials of centrapalus coumarin F (CCF) obtained from aerial parts of Centrapalus pauciflorus (Willd.) H.Rob. (Asteraceae). Cytotoxic activity was tested against a panel of human adherent cancer cell lines, including breast, cervical, and oropharyngeal cancer and glioblastoma. Cell cycle analyses using flow cytometry and Hoechst 33258-propidium iodide (HOPI) fluorescent double staining were used to describe the proapoptotic property of CCF. Wound healing assessment and the Boyden chamber assay were performed to characterize the antimetastatic action of the compound. The firefly luciferase assay was applied to clarify the action of CCF on estrogenic receptors. CCF demonstrated remarkable selective growth inhibition against the HPV-18-positive human cervical cancer cell line HeLa (IC50 = 2.28 µM). The compound elicited crucial markers of apoptosis, inhibited the migration and invasion capacity of HeLa cells, and demonstrated an antiestrogenic property. Our current data indicate that the meroterpenoid scaffold presented here displays remarkable antiproliferative and antimetastatic effects on HeLa cells and can be considered a valuable model for designing further analogs targeting cervical carcinoma.}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1422-0067}, orcid-numbers = {Ali, Hazhmat/0000-0002-2553-8443; Rasool, Shelan/0009-0005-1740-1411; Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632; Rédei, Dóra/0000-0002-5013-247X; Hohmann, Judit/0000-0002-2887-6392; Zupkó, István/0000-0003-3243-5300} } @misc{MTMT:36212916, title = {Lawesson’s reagent ameliorates inflammation via the modulation of inflammatory cytokines and NET formation in TNBS-induced rat colitis}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36212916}, author = {Török, Szilvia and Almási, Nikoletta and Szebeni, Gábor and Veszelka, Médea and Nagy, Izabella and Balog, Dóra and Denise, Börzsei and Renáta, Szabó and Csaba, Varga}, unique-id = {36212916}, year = {2025}, orcid-numbers = {Almási, Nikoletta/0000-0002-7371-5272; Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632} } @article{MTMT:36235342, title = {Multiplex immunophenotyping of petients with antiphospholipid syndrome or seropositivity without clinical symptomes}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36235342}, author = {Balog, Attila and Kari, Beáta and Kotogány, Edit and Gémes, Nikolett and Honfi, Dániel György and Cselei, N. and Szebeni, Gábor}, doi = {10.1016/j.ard.2025.06.911}, journal-iso = {ANN RHEUM DIS}, journal = {ANNALS OF THE RHEUMATIC DISEASES}, volume = {84}, unique-id = {36235342}, issn = {0003-4967}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1468-2060}, pages = {1543-1543}, orcid-numbers = {Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632} } @article{MTMT:36244329, title = {Biochemical Insights into the Effects of a Small Molecule Drug Candidate on Imatinib-Induced Cardiac Inflammation}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36244329}, author = {Szabó, Renáta and Börzsei, Denise and Nagy, András Levente and Kiss, Viktória Mónika and Virág, Zoltán and Karcsúné Kis, Gyöngyi and Almási, Nikoletta and Török, Szilvia and Veszelka, Médea and Bagyánszki, Mária and Bódi, Nikolett and Barta, Bence Pál and Neuperger, Patricia and Szebeni, Gábor and Varga, Csaba}, doi = {10.3390/ijms26146661}, journal-iso = {INT J MOL SCI}, journal = {INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES}, volume = {26}, unique-id = {36244329}, issn = {1661-6596}, year = {2025}, eissn = {1422-0067}, orcid-numbers = {Almási, Nikoletta/0000-0002-7371-5272; Bagyánszki, Mária/0000-0003-3533-9461; Bódi, Nikolett/0000-0002-9774-1387; Barta, Bence Pál/0000-0002-5309-8633; Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632; Varga, Csaba/0000-0002-2678-665X} } @article{MTMT:36264592, title = {Comprehensive analysis of human keratinocyte interactions with Candida albicans and Candida parapsilosis}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36264592}, author = {Novák, Ádám and Zajta, Erik and Csikós, Máté Lajos and Halmos, Emese and Horváth, Márton and Tildy, Orsolya and Szekeres, András and Svorenj, Gergő and Gémes, Nikolett and Szebeni, Gábor and Tóth, Renáta and Gácser, Attila}, doi = {10.1080/21505594.2025.2532815}, journal-iso = {VIRULENCE}, journal = {VIRULENCE}, volume = {16}, unique-id = {36264592}, issn = {2150-5594}, year = {2025}, eissn = {2150-5608}, orcid-numbers = {Zajta, Erik/0000-0001-5258-2506; Szekeres, András/0000-0003-1651-4623; Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632; Tóth, Renáta/0000-0001-7395-0689} } @article{MTMT:36280462, title = {The CCL2-CCR2 axis drives neuromuscular denervation in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/36280462}, author = {Nógrádi, Bernát and Molnár, Kinga and Kristóf, Rebeka and Horváth, Orsolya and Huang, Yu-Ting and Ridgway, Zara and Elicegui, Amaia and Fuertes-Alvarez, Sandra and Alonso-Martin, Sonia and Szebeni, Gábor and Gémes, Nikolett and Ramadan, Abdullah and Smith, Hannah L. and Krizbai, István Adorján and Patai, Roland and Siklós, László and Klivényi, Péter and Chaytow, Helena and Gillingwater, Thomas H.}, doi = {10.1038/s41467-025-62351-3}, journal-iso = {NAT COMMUN}, journal = {NATURE COMMUNICATIONS}, volume = {16}, unique-id = {36280462}, year = {2025}, eissn = {2041-1723}, orcid-numbers = {Ridgway, Zara/0009-0007-3936-5428; Elicegui, Amaia/0000-0003-4782-6005; Alonso-Martin, Sonia/0000-0002-3254-0365; Szebeni, Gábor/0000-0002-6998-5632; Smith, Hannah L./0000-0003-3670-5881; Klivényi, Péter/0000-0002-5389-3266; Chaytow, Helena/0000-0003-2257-7620; Gillingwater, Thomas H./0000-0002-0306-5577} }
