Consequently, the aim of this paper is to describe some of the motivating factors of secondary school learners studying English or German as a foreign language. The study was conducted in the autumn of 2018 at 16 secondary schools in north-east Hungary, where 453 students studying English or German as a foreign language filled in the questionnaire in Hungarian. The first part of the paper describes the theoretical background of the research. The second part shows the aim, method, and participants of the research.
