As a consequence, its different types (grandiose and vulnerable narcissism) have been investigated from several different perspectives. The present research attempts to explore the differences between the two types of narcissism and their links with different cognitive components that are connected to these personality traits. The primary aim of our study is to investigate the possible connections among maladaptive schemas (entitlement, vulnerability, emotional deprivation) and cognitive evaluation systems (self-esteem, systemizing-empathizing) and narcissism.MethodsWe applied both correlation and path analyses to explore the hypothesized associations.ResultsThe results show that early maladaptive schemas are strongly associated with narcissism and the empathizing system. The different subtypes of narcissism have different connections with self-esteem.ConclusionOur results show that the two types of narcissism have different manifestations and connections with the early maladaptive schemas, Emphatizing Quotient, and self-esteem. Our empirical results serve as important and empirically supported inputs to counseling and clinical practice.}, keywords = {cognition; psychopathy; Emotional regulation; NARCISSISM; VULNERABLE NARCISSISM; PERSONALITY-INVENTORY; grandiose; GRANDIOSE}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1467-9450}, pages = {729-734}, orcid-numbers = {Láng, András/0000-0002-1209-3350; Putz, Ádám/0000-0002-9367-0729; Bandi, Szabolcs/0000-0002-4280-0212} } @article{MTMT:34187121, title = {Jungian personality type preferences of female and male Hungarian leaders}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34187121}, author = {Szathmári, Edit and Czibor, Andrea and Bents, Richard and Szabó, Zsolt Péter and Kiss, Orhidea Edith}, doi = {10.3389/fpsyg.2023.1222568}, journal-iso = {FRONT PSYCHOL}, journal = {FRONTIERS IN PSYCHOLOGY}, volume = {14}, unique-id = {34187121}, issn = {1664-1078}, abstract = {In this study, we investigated the personality type preferences of female and male Hungarian non-managerial individual contributors, middle managers, and executives. We aimed to investigate the preferences among successful females and males (i.e., executives) compared to non-executives. The preference distinctions between successful females and males were also analyzed. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using the Jungian-based Golden Profiler of Personality (GPOP) questionnaire ( N = 5,376; 2,678 females, 2,698 males; average age 35.98 with an SD = 8.977). Executives scored higher in extraversion, intuition, thinking, perceiving, and calm preferences compared to middle managers and individual contributors while scoring lower in sensing and tense preferences. Extraversion, intuition, and feeling preferences were more prevalent among female executives than both male executives and women in general. Our findings suggest that Hungarian female executives' personality preferences align with either stereotypically feminine traits (intuitive and feeling) or male executive-like preferences (extraverted, sensing, thinking, and judging combination). We also discussed the influence of cultural norms and expectations on the personality preferences of female and male executives. Our results are in line with prior research conducted in the Western context, however, the gender differences are more striking. We concluded that men have a reasonable chance of success across a spectrum of personality preferences as they ascend the hierarchy, while women need to exhibit specific preferences to be successful on the same journey. The self-descriptive and cross-sectional nature of our data spell limitations, therefore we suggest conducting future longitudinal studies, including explanatory and contingency variables (e.g. perceived cultural norms).}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1664-1078}, orcid-numbers = {Szathmári, Edit/0000-0002-8816-2869; Szabó, Zsolt Péter/0000-0001-8124-2869; Kiss, Orhidea Edith/0000-0001-8296-9429} } @article{MTMT:33632351, title = {“One of these things is not like the others”. The internal structure of the translated questionnaire was examined with confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory structural equation modeling. Then the construct and concurrent validity of the Hungarian version was tested. The obtained results were based on a total of seven independent samples (NTOTAL = 2161). While the internal structure of the SD3-HU showed inconsistencies with that of the original SD3, it proved consistent with adaptations developed in other languages. The SD3-HU showed adequate construct and concurrent validity. In line with the conceptual framework of, and previous empirical findings on the Dark Triad, each dark trait showed the expected associations with broad personality dimensions, sensation seeking, character strengths, work motivation, and counterproductive work behaviors. Furthermore, self-ratings on the SD3-HU were consistent with peer ratings.
