It is also unclear whether the kinetics of MIF are different between males and females. We conducted a single-center prospective, observational study with repeated measurements of MIF in serum and urine on days 0, 2, and 4 from admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) in 50 adult septic patients. We found that in patients who died within 90 days, there was an increase in serum MIF level from day 0 to 4, whereas in the survivors there was rather a decrease (p = 0.018). The kinetics were sex-dependent as the same difference in the pattern was present in males (p = 0.014), but not in females (p = 0.418). We also found that urine MIF was markedly lower in patients who died than in survivors of sepsis (p < 0.050). Urine MIF levels did not show temporal changes: there was no meaningful difference between day 0 and 4. These results suggest that kinetics of serum MIF during the initial days from ICU admission can predict death, especially in male patients. Additionally, lower urine MIF levels can also indicate death without showing meaningful temporal kinetics.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {2045-2322}, orcid-numbers = {Garami, András/0000-0003-2493-0571} } @article{MTMT:33546311, title = {Synthesis and evaluation of a new class of MIF-inhibitors in activated macrophage cells and in experimental septic shock in mice}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33546311}, author = {Garai, János and Radnai, Balázs and Vámos, Eszter and Kovács, Dominika and Bagóné Vántus, Viola and Rumbus, Zoltán and Pákai, Eszter and Garami, András and Gulyás, Gergely and Agócs, Attila and Krekó, Marcell and Zaman, K. and Prókai, L. and Őrfi, László and Jakus, Péter and Lóránd, Tamás}, doi = {10.1016/j.ejmech.2022.115050}, journal-iso = {EUR J MED CHEM}, journal = {EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY}, volume = {247}, unique-id = {33546311}, issn = {0223-5234}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1768-3254}, orcid-numbers = {Vámos, Eszter/0000-0003-0622-442X; Garami, András/0000-0003-2493-0571; Krekó, Marcell/0000-0002-4972-972X; Őrfi, László/0000-0001-6149-2385} } @{MTMT:32131103, title = {The role of the macrophage migration inhibitory factor in lipopolysaccharide-induced hypothermia in mice}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32131103}, author = {Rumbus, Zoltán and Garai, János and Kéringer, Patrik and Radnai, Balázs and Lóránd, Tamás and Garami, András}, booktitle = {Medical Conference for PhD Students and Experts of Clinical Sciences 2021}, unique-id = {32131103}, year = {2021}, pages = {115-115}, orcid-numbers = {Garami, András/0000-0003-2493-0571} } @article{MTMT:32095838, title = {Tetralone derivatives are MIF tautomerase inhibitors and attenuate macrophage activation and amplify the hypothermic response in endotoxemic mice}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32095838}, author = {Garai, János and Krekó, Marcell and Őrfi, László and Jakus, Péter and Rumbus, Zoltán and Kéringer, Patrik and Garami, András and Vámos, Eszter and Kovács, Dominika and Bagóné Vántus, Viola and Radnai, Balázs and Lóránd, Tamás}, doi = {10.1080/14756366.2021.1916010}, journal-iso = {J ENZYM INHIB MED CH}, journal = {JOURNAL OF ENZYME INHIBITION AND MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY}, volume = {36}, unique-id = {32095838}, issn = {1475-6366}, year = {2021}, eissn = {1475-6374}, pages = {1357-1369}, orcid-numbers = {Krekó, Marcell/0000-0002-4972-972X; Őrfi, László/0000-0001-6149-2385; Rumbus, Zoltán/0000-0003-2898-6628; Garami, András/0000-0003-2493-0571; Vámos, Eszter/0000-0003-0622-442X} } @{MTMT:34183582, title = {Circulatory disorders of specific organs}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34183582}, author = {Garai, János}, booktitle = {Basic concepts in pathophysiology}, unique-id = {34183582}, year = {2020}, pages = {74-90} } @{MTMT:34183578, title = {Alterations of cardiovascular functions in the elderly}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34183578}, author = {Garai, János}, booktitle = {Basic concepts in pathophysiology}, unique-id = {34183578}, year = {2020}, pages = {90-91} } @{MTMT:34183563, title = {Pathophysiology of lipoprotein metabolism}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34183563}, author = {Garai, János}, booktitle = {Basic concepts in pathophysiology}, unique-id = {34183563}, year = {2020}, pages = {346-353} } @{MTMT:34183561, title = {Pathophysiology of endocrine systems}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34183561}, author = {Garai, János}, booktitle = {Basic concepts in pathophysiology}, unique-id = {34183561}, year = {2020}, pages = {355-395} } @{MTMT:34183547, title = {Inflammation}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34183547}, author = {Garai, János}, booktitle = {Basic concepts in pathophysiology}, unique-id = {34183547}, year = {2020}, pages = {497-503} } @{MTMT:34183545, title = {Ischemia - reperfusion}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34183545}, author = {Garai, János}, booktitle = {Basic concepts in pathophysiology}, unique-id = {34183545}, year = {2020}, pages = {505-506} }
