TY - GEN AU - Mokaya, Peter Onchuru AU - Hideg, Gabriella AU - Ágoston, István TI - The role household wealth index on the prevalence of depression and anxiety in Kenya: proportional odds modeling of Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 data PY - 2024 UR - https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34752730 ID - 34752730 AB - Background: In Kenya, it is estimated that between 25% and 40% of inpatients and outpatients, respectively, have mental health issues. Depression, substance abuse, stress, and anxiety disorders are the most frequently diagnosed mental illnesses in general hospitals. Kenya was ranked fifth among African nations with the highest rates of depression. Methods: To investigate the role of the household wealth index on depression and anxiety prevalence in Kenya, this study utilizes the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 which the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics conducted. We used the proportional odds model with an adjusted odds ratio and 95% confidence interval to calculate the wealth index for households that recorded the presence of anxiety or depression in Kenya. The wealth index has five categories and was used as a dependent variable with order categorization. The main explanatory variables were rural or urban residents, gender of household head, household insurance status, and education level among others. Results: A total of 3.5% of the surveyed Kenyans of all ages reported to have been diagnosed with depression and or anxiety. Results that indicated household wealth index was a significant function of depression and anxiety prevalence were households with health insurance with log odds of 2.403 (P-value 0.0001), people with tertiary education had log odds of 4.769 (P-value 0.0000), and urban residents had log odds of -2.910 (P-value 0.0000), according to the significance values at 95% confidence intervals. Recommendation: It is crucial to implement programs that promote mental health awareness and education. To increase the availability and affordability of mental health services, targeted health insurance initiatives should be created. To increase insurance rates for this group, the government may want to consider providing subsidies or other incentives for mental health care. This study examined the case management-based on RTW program features that improve the work ability index (WAI) and quality of life (QoL). Methods: This cross-sectional research involved 230 disabled workers due to an occupational injury in Indonesia, 154 participated in RTW, and 75 did not participate in RTW (non-RTW) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sociodemographic and occupational factors were used to examine the RTW results. We used the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health’s WAI questionnaires to measure the work ability index and World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF) for quality of life. Results: The study found a statistically significant difference in working duration and preferred treatment for RTW between the groups (p-value = 0.039). Furthermore, the quality of life in the domain of environmental health and work ability index score also demonstrated a significant difference between the groups (p-value = 0.023 and 0.000, respectively). Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, this study found that the RTW program improved the quality of life and work abilities of disabled workers.
