However, accurate age constraints can often be challenging to obtain due to unideal outcrop conditions, large sedimentary hiatuses or the lack of well‐defined thermal events. In this study, we show on the example of the Nekézseny Thrust, a poorly exposed late orogenic thrust in the southern Western Carpathians, that a combined approach of structural analysis and multi‐method thermochronology can provide the necessary temporal, kinematic and thermal constraints for a detailed reconstruction of the deformation history. While structural mapping revealed that the Late Cretaceous Uppony Gosau Basin in the footwall of the Nekézseny Thrust underwent a significant post‐Campanian and pre‐Miocene shortening, K/Ar dating of fault gouge samples from the main fault zone constrained the primary thrusting event to the Maastrichtian. Based on the acquired apatite fission‐track and (U‐Th)/He ages, subsequent heating of the Upper Cretaceous sediments due to tectonic burial was limited to 75–100°C, followed by deformation‐related and gradual cooling between the Eocene and Early Miocene. Considering the reconstructed deformation history, as well as the large‐scale tectonic affinity of the displaced units in its footwall and hanging wall, the Nekézseny Thrust is a far‐traveled (ca. 600 km) segment of the Late Cretaceous Alps‐Dinarides contact zone, whose development was linked to the switch from lower plate to upper plate position with respect to the Sava Zone and Alpine Tethys sutures, respectively.}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1944-9194}, orcid-numbers = {Kövér, Szilvia/0000-0002-6736-4226; Németh, Tibor/0000-0002-1836-6006} } @CONFERENCE{MTMT:34428558, title = {Előzetes nemesgáz eredmények a Vardar-zóna területéről}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34428558}, author = {Molnár, Kata and Benkó, Zsolt and Palcsu, László and Temovski, Marjan}, booktitle = {13. Aside from common mineralization agents such as silica or carbonates, there are also atypical mineralization associations, such as zeolite-group phases, but the zeolitization process has not yet been investigated in detail. We studied zeolitized woods collected from two localities in the Cenozoic alkaline Cesk ˇ ´e Stˇredohoˇrí Volcanic Complex (Ohˇre Rift, Czech Republic), where fossil woods of diverse paleobotanical classification were deposited in volcaniclastic rocks of the same origin (lahar) and stratigraphic formation (Upper Oligocene). The identical geological setting allowed the investigation of potential variables influencing this type of mineralization by combining paleobotanical classification, detailed mineralogy, mineral chemistry, geochemistry, Sr isotope analysis and K–Ar chronology. The new results demonstrate the significant potential of fossil woods mineralized with zeolite-group minerals to be used to reconstruct the formation and deposition conditions of the lahars in which these woods are contained. The composition of zeolites is strongly dependent on thermal conditions and material exchange between wood and host rocks. Dominant mineral phases are phillipsite and chabazite in variable proportions. The phillipsite/chabazite ratio correlates well with the magnitude of the Eu anomaly, suggesting crystallization of phillipsite at a higher temperature under hot-lahar conditions of deposition. Chabazite lacking an Eu anomaly represents the later, colder mineralization stage. The 87Sr/86Sr ratios ranging 0.7042–0.7047 provide an additional line of evidence of fluid derivation from volcaniclastic deposits of the Upper Oligocene Dˇeˇcín Fm.}, keywords = {Ceske Stredohori Volcanic Complex; mineralization.; lahar; fossil wood; zeolites}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1611-5864} } @article{MTMT:34106029, title = {Effects of Metasomatism on Granite-Related Mineral Systems: A Boron-Rich Open Greisen System in the Highiş Granitoids (Apuseni Mountains, Romania)}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34106029}, author = {Raucsikné Varga, Andrea Beáta and Pozsár, Attila and Zajzon, Norbert and Topa, Boglárka Anna and Benkó, Zsolt and Pál-Molnár, Elemér and Raucsik, Béla}, doi = {10.3390/min13081083}, journal-iso = {MINERALS-BASEL}, journal = {MINERALS}, volume = {13}, unique-id = {34106029}, abstract = {Greisenization is typically linked with highly fractionated granites and is often associated with hydrothermal vein systems. Late to postmagmatic metasomatic processes involve the enrichment of volatile components such as boron and halogens as well as several metallic elements. The purpose of this study is to reveal the main metasomatic effects and paragenetic sequences of the related mineralizations in Highiş granitoids, Romania. In a natural outcrop, more than 30 samples were collected from granitoids, felsic veins, and country rocks. We carried out a detailed mineralogical and petrological characterization of carefully selected samples using X-ray powder diffractometry, electron microprobe analysis, and microscopic methods together with K–Ar ages of whole rocks and K-bearing minerals. Several characteristic features of albitization, sericitization, tourmalinization, epidotization, and hematitization were recognized in the studied samples. Crystallization of quartz, K-feldspar, and magnetite represents the first stage during the magmatic-hydrothermal transition. The mineral assemblage of albite, sericite, schorl, and quartz originates from the early and main stages of greisenization. While the subsequent mineral assemblages, which predominantly include dravite, specular hematite, and epidote, are closely related to the late vein-depositing stage. We propose that the study area could belong to a boron-rich open greisen system in the apical portion of Guadalupian A-type granite. Based on a new hypothesis, the previously published Permian crystallization ages (between ~272 Ma and ~259 Ma) could be homogenized and/or partially rejuvenated during the hydrothermal mineralization processes due to uraniferous vein minerals. Additionally, the Highiș granite-related system suffered a Cretaceous thermal overprint (between ~100 Ma and ~96 Ma). The results may help to understand the evolution of highly evolved granite intrusions worldwide and improve our knowledge of the effect of hydrothermal mineralization processes on the emplacement ages.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {2075-163X}, orcid-numbers = {Raucsikné Varga, Andrea Beáta/0000-0002-8673-1482; Topa, Boglárka Anna/0000-0003-1996-2261; Pál-Molnár, Elemér/0000-0002-9606-0133; Raucsik, Béla/0000-0002-1951-5974} } @article{MTMT:34104768, title = {Large-volume Permian felsic volcanism in the Tisza Mega-unit (East-Central Europe): Evidence from mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, and geochronology}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34104768}, author = {Szemerédi, Máté and Raucsikné Varga, Andrea Beáta and Haranginé Lukács, Réka and Dunkl, István and Seghedi, I and Tatu, M and Kovács, Zoltán and Raucsik, Béla and Benkó, Zsolt and Harangi, Szabolcs and Pál-Molnár, Elemér}, doi = {10.1016/j.lithos.2023.107330}, journal-iso = {LITHOS}, journal = {LITHOS}, volume = {456-457}, unique-id = {34104768}, issn = {0024-4937}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1872-6143}, orcid-numbers = {Szemerédi, Máté/0000-0002-7432-8418; Raucsikné Varga, Andrea Beáta/0000-0002-8673-1482; Haranginé Lukács, Réka/0000-0002-2338-4209; Raucsik, Béla/0000-0002-1951-5974; Harangi, Szabolcs/0000-0003-2372-4581; Pál-Molnár, Elemér/0000-0002-9606-0133} }
