Many studies have focused on evaluating the physical activity (PA) level, while evaluation of SB has received less attention. The main goal of the present study is to describe the sedentary lifestyle of the Hungarian adult population and identify the vulnerable groups with high amount of sitting time and the patterns of SB. Another aim of this study is to compare the two types of questionnaires (International Physical Activity Questionnaire—IPAQ and Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire—SBQ) related to sitting time. Methods: This study analyzed cross-sectional primary data using self-reported questionnaires collected by a Hungarian research market company among the adult population in Hungary. The final sample of this study consisted of 1295 participants with a mean age of 45.9 years (SD = 15.2). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) test with post-hoc (Tukey) analysis were used to analyze the link between sitting time and socio-demographic variables (sex, age, BMI, settlement type, education level, marital status, work category, working hours, employment status, sport activity) and body mass index (BMI). Results and conclusions: According to the SBQ, on average, Hungarians sit for 469.53 min per day (7.81 h) on weekdays and 421.25 min per day (7.01 h) on weekends, which suggested a significant difference compared to IPAQ data: 287.82 min per day (4.79 h) on weekdays and 224.30 min per day (3.73 h) on weekends. Young people (aged between 18 and 29) were reported to have the highest average sitting time, i.e., 545 min per day (more than 9 h), and are showing the highest prevalence (53%) of sitting at least 480 min (8 h) per day. Sitting workers also had a high average sitting time, i.e., 514.82 min per day, and a high prevalence (49.3%) of sitting at least 480 min (8 h) per day. People who live in the capital city had higher sitting time, especially on working days. Men sat longer than woman, i.e., 19 min on working days and 45 min on weekends. The most frequent sedentary activities are: working on computer (126 min) on working days and watching TV (130 min) on weekends. Our results clearly show that the self-report single-item measure (IPAQ) significantly underestimates sedentary time compared to the multi-item questionnaire (SBQ). We identified vulnerable groups with high sitting times: men, young adults, inhabitants of the capital city and sitting workers. Consequently, these groups should be continuously surveyed, and requires specific interventions and strategies that particularly counteract the increased sitting time.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1660-4601}, orcid-numbers = {Bácsné Bába, Éva/0000-0002-0733-6637; Szabados, György Norbert/0000-0003-3959-1963; Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor/0000-0002-1184-1660} } @article{MTMT:33006545, title = {Correlations between Physical Fitness and Body Composition among Boys Aged 14–18—Conclusions of a Case Study to Reverse the Worsening Secular Trend in Fitness among Urban Youth Due to Sedentary Lifestyles}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33006545}, author = {Müller, Anetta and Nagy, Zsuzsa and Kovács, Sándor and Szőke, Szilvia and Elena, Bendíková and Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor and Ódor, Kinga and Szabados, György Norbert and Gabnai, Zoltán and Bácsné Bába, Éva}, doi = {10.3390/ijerph19148765}, journal-iso = {INT J ENV RES PUB HE}, journal = {INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH AND PUBLIC HEALTH}, volume = {19}, unique-id = {33006545}, issn = {1661-7827}, abstract = {A secular trend can be observed throughout the world with an increase in childhood obesity and a decrease in fitness. The research aimed to examine the results of tests measuring the conditional abilities of young boys aged 14–18 in fitness tests and their correlations with body composition indicators. That was supported by research that has been prepared in Hungary so far. This research focuses on the results of fitness tests conducted on 14- to 18-year-old boys, presented along with body composition data. The authors sought to describe the development of the fitness profiles of males at a Budapest secondary school participating in the research, based on the results of the Hungarian National Student Fitness Test (NETFIT®), and also how their physical characteristics affect the results of NETFIT® tests in the sample measured. A total of 735 male high school students at a Budapest secondary school (14–18 years old) (mean ± SD, 16.05 ± 1.18 years) participated in the survey. The data were collected in the 2018/2019 academic year, and it was compared with the national data. The correlation between the performance indicators of the NETFIT® tests and the physical characteristic indicators was analyzed using the two-block Partial Least Squares method. In the resulting groups, Kruskal–Wallis variance analysis was performed to investigate the differences in performance. In contrast, pairs of group differences were tested with the Mann–Whitney test. Boys with a short physique were at some advantage in trunk-lifts and push-ups, compared to taller boys. It was also obvious that being overweight is a hindrance regarding the PACER test or the standing broad jump. The handgrip in the left and right hand was mostly of similar strength or weakness. Tall-heavy children performed better in this test. The grip strength of tall-thin students was also strong, but not as strong as in the tall-heavy group. Reducing the percentage of body fat (PBF) and creating the optimal BMI index is important for the younger age group, as our results have clearly demonstrated that overweight is a hindrance in the PACER, VO2 max, standing broad jump, back-saver sit-and-reach, and push-up tests.}, year = {2022}, eissn = {1660-4601}, orcid-numbers = {Szőke, Szilvia/0000-0002-0843-3535; Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor/0000-0002-1184-1660; Szabados, György Norbert/0000-0003-3959-1963} } @article{MTMT:32259239, title = {A COVID-19 pandémia hatása a munkavállalók fizikai aktivitására}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32259239}, author = {Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor and Bácsné Bába, Éva and Szabados, György Norbert and Ódor, Kinga}, doi = {10.21791/IJEMS.2021.2.7.}, journal-iso = {IJEMS MMTK}, journal = {INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES / MŰSZAKI ÉS MENEDZSMENT TUDOMÁNYI KÖZLEMÉNYEK}, volume = {6}, unique-id = {32259239}, issn = {2498-700X}, year = {2021}, pages = {72-84}, orcid-numbers = {Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor/0000-0002-1184-1660; Szabados, György Norbert/0000-0003-3959-1963} } @article{MTMT:32208250, title = {Your Physical Activity Is in Your Hand—Objective Activity Tracking Among University Students in Hungary, One of the Most Obese Countries in Europe}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32208250}, author = {Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor and Takács, Viktor László and Szilágyi, Róbert and Bácsné Bába, Éva and Müller, Anetta and Bács, Zoltán and Rákos, Mónika and Balogh, László and Ódor, Kinga}, doi = {10.3389/fpubh.2021.661471}, journal-iso = {FRONT PUBLIC HEALTH}, journal = {FRONTIERS IN PUBLIC HEALTH}, volume = {9}, unique-id = {32208250}, year = {2021}, eissn = {2296-2565}, orcid-numbers = {Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor/0000-0002-1184-1660; Takács, Viktor László/0000-0001-8433-6115; Szilágyi, Róbert/0000-0002-1783-6483; Rákos, Mónika/0000-0002-2986-4334} } @article{MTMT:32157576, title = {Changes in Workers’ Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior during the COVID-19 Pandemic}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32157576}, author = {Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor and Kósa, Karolina and Bács, Zoltán and Ódor, Kinga and Füzesi, István and Lengyel, Péter and Bácsné Bába, Éva}, doi = {10.3390/su13179524}, journal-iso = {SUSTAINABILITY-BASEL}, journal = {SUSTAINABILITY}, volume = {13}, unique-id = {32157576}, abstract = {Background: COVID-19 has changed the world and strongly affected the health of the people and the quality of their life. These changes might impact employees’ physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB). This study aimed to summarize the literature focusing on the COVID-19-caused changes in physical activity and sedentary behavior among the adult working population. Methods: Literature searches were conducted in June 2021 using multiple electronic databases. The following keywords and synonyms were used during the searching process: physical activity, sedentary behavior, COVID-19, employee. After the data cleaning process (duplicates, inclusion criteria), the title and the abstract of all manuscripts from the searches were screened independently by two reviewers. Results: Thirty-nine manuscripts were selected as a result of the searching process. Of these, 5 were SB related, 15 were PA related and 19 addressed both PA and SB. There were longitudinal (10), cross-sectional (28) and a case study (1) in the selected manuscripts. The majority of studies were conducted in the USA (6) and Europe (18), and four studies examined the PA and/or SB in multiple countries. The majority (34 studies) of the studies used subjective, self-reported, but mostly before-validated questionnaires. Objective measures were less common and used only 12.8% of the examined studies. Moreover, 76.4% of the studies described an overall decrease in the amount of PA during the COVID-19 pandemic. In three cases, researchers observed an increase in PA among the workers. Five studies reported no significant changes in the amount of PA during the pandemic. As far as SB is concerned, 18 out of 24 of the studies reported an overall increase in the amount of SB between the two periods. Four manuscripts reported no significant change in the amount of SB, and there was only one manuscript in the examined studies that reported an overall decrease in the SB time before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Discussion: There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic, including lockdown and work from home (WFH) policies, impaired the PA and SB level of the populations. This period has delivered an important message for the adult working population as well. They should be as active as possible and avoid high levels of SB and uninterrupted sitting time. Therefore, organizations, policies and public health bodies should motivate workers, especially office workers, to be more active and interventions must be developed to mitigate the negative effects of the COVID-19 on PA and SB.}, year = {2021}, eissn = {2071-1050}, orcid-numbers = {Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor/0000-0002-1184-1660; Lengyel, Péter/0000-0003-0737-8586} } @inbook{MTMT:32082468, title = {A Puma zöld törekvései}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/32082468}, author = {Ódor, Kinga and Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor and Márton, Laura}, booktitle = {Versenysport és szabadidősport}, unique-id = {32082468}, year = {2021}, pages = {117-126}, orcid-numbers = {Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor/0000-0002-1184-1660} } @article{MTMT:31803918, title = {Egyes UEFA 4-es kategóriájú labdarúgó-stadionok környezetvédelmi törekvései}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/31803918}, author = {Ódor, Kinga and Ráthonyi, Gergely Gábor}, doi = {10.33032/acr.2482}, journal-iso = {ACTA CAROLUS ROBERTUS}, journal = {ACTA CAROLUS ROBERTUS}, volume = {10}, unique-id = {31803918}, issn = {2062-8269}, abstract = {Az elmúlt mintegy két évtizedben a sportszektor –elsősorban nemzetközi viszonylatban – egyre nagyobb és fokozódó figyelmet fordított a környezetvédelem, majd az ezt integráló fenntarthatóság kérdéskörének megértésére és főként az ezzel kapcsolatos gyakorlati tennivalókra.
