The structure of solution is treated and the analytical solutions are presented. The steady-state part of the analytical solutions are the linear elastic cavity expansion solutions for m>1. The transient parts are Bessel-Fourier series. Their constants are determined from the system of equations expressing the boundary conditions, and from the initial condition. Every model can be used for the evaluation of the pore water pressure dissipation tests. The total stress dissipation tests (eg. the piezo-lateral stress cell test) can qualitatively be evaluated by the coupled 1 model (with the new boundary condition) if it is completed by a relaxation term. The spectral decomposition of this matrix has been studied by a number of authors, among others Sylvester, Cayley, Mazza, Muir, Schrodinger, and Kac. In particular, explicit expressions are known for the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors of the matrix. So the question arises: Does there exist an explicit formula for the singular values? In this paper we find an explicit formula for a subset of the singular values when the order of the matrix is odd. In the process we utilize the method of generating functions, and derive a second-order differential equation. The polynomial solutions of this differential equation provide the elements of the singular vectors. (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
