Here, we examined cross-nationally the structure and correlates of these beliefs with an 8-item scale, using a multigroup confirmatory factor analysis. We obtained a two-factor model of unfounded (conspiracy and health) beliefs with good internal structure (average CFI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.05, SRMR = 0.04), but a high correlation between the two factors (average latent factor correlation = 0.57). This model was replicable across 50 countries (total N = 13,579), as evidenced by metric invariance between countries (CFI = 0.96, RMSEA = 0.06, SRMS = 0.07) as well as scalar invariance across genders (CFI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.04, SRMS = 0.03) and educational levels (CFI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.04, SRMS = 0.03). Also, lower levels of education, more fear of COVID-19, and more cynicism were weakly associated with stronger conspiracy and health beliefs. The study contributes to knowledge about the structure of unfounded beliefs, and reveals the potential relevance of affective (i.e., fear of COVID-19) and cognitive (i.e., cynicism) factors along with demographics, in endorsing such beliefs. In summary, we obtained cross-cultural evidence for the distinctiveness of unfounded conspiracy and health beliefs about COVID-19 in terms of their structure and correlates.}, keywords = {Cross-cultural; health beliefs; conspiracy beliefs; COVID-19; Unfounded beliefs}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1464-0708}, pages = {301-326}, orcid-numbers = {Atitsogbe, Kokou A./0000-0003-3469-1738; Ramos-Diaz, Jano/0000-0002-7993-2390; Esteves, Carla Sofia/0000-0002-7307-8373; Kovács, Mónika/0000-0002-7827-3717; Moon, Chanki/0000-0002-1937-6206; Stefenel, Delia/0000-0002-6486-4970; Yahiiaiev, Illia/0000-0003-1432-6821} } @article{MTMT:34132007, title = {Gender disparities and potentials in STEM approach in Jordan and Saudi Arabia – An analytical literature review}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34132007}, author = {Alghneimin, Jehan and Varga, Attila and Kovács, Mónika}, doi = {10.1556/063.2023.00236}, journal-iso = {HERJ}, journal = {HUNGARIAN EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH JOURNAL (HERJ)}, volume = {14}, unique-id = {34132007}, issn = {2062-9605}, abstract = {In recent years, the integrated approach of STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) has been adopted in the Middle East to improve students' scientific capacities and their formative thinking. Nevertheless, this approach encounters complications in the application, including many due to gender differences. Middle Eastern women's life and education is affected by conservative constraints and social norms where gender stereotypes and culture impact shared views about specific domains. Research regarding gender has frequently emphasized gender imbalance in virtually all STEM study fields and professions. This study explores STEM education's conceptual framework in Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Likewise, it provides an overview of STEM teachers' practices and their gender perspectives in the classrooms. We investigate the implementations and gender differences in STEM education by scrutinizing relevant literature and studies in the selected countries. The conclusions indicate a shortage of teachers' knowledge in applying STEM education in classrooms and a need for more development programs that qualify teachers for STEM education applications. In addition, the results show that gender disparities are promoted by the education system and teachers who teach STEM subjects in schools because social norms and gender stereotypes influence them.}, year = {2024}, eissn = {2064-2199}, pages = {217-230}, orcid-numbers = {Varga, Attila/0000-0002-0659-3551; Kovács, Mónika/0000-0002-7827-3717} } @article{MTMT:34311548, title = {Cosmopolitanism and social dominance orientation mediate relationship between political orientation and sexism}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34311548}, author = {Seitova, Dilyara and Sam Nariman, Hadi and Kovács, Mónika}, doi = {10.1016/j.actpsy.2023.104037}, journal-iso = {ACTA PSYCHOL}, journal = {ACTA PSYCHOLOGICA}, volume = {240}, unique-id = {34311548}, issn = {0001-6918}, abstract = {Over the past decade, 'anti-gender discourse' has been institutionalised by the governing right-wing party in Hungary to a wide effect, from the removal of accreditation from a gender studies MA program to the Parliament's refusal to ratify the Istanbul Convention. The anti-egalitarian backlash echoes those emergent in other countries where right-wing populism has gained ground - such as Poland, Turkey, India, the United States, and Brazil. The present study examined the role of two opposite orientations, cosmopolitanism as an egalitarian worldview and social dominance orientation as the preference for hierarchies and inequality among groups and people in general, in mediating the relationship between political orientation and sexism among a representative Hungarian sample (N =1000). The path analysis revealed that left-wing political orientation was associated with higher levels of cosmopolitan orientation, while right-wing political orientation was associated with higher levels of SDO. Higher levels of cosmopolitan orientation were associated with a more positive attitude toward feminists and lower levels of modern sexism and gender-based zero-sum thinking, while higher levels of SDO were associated with the opposite. Furthermore, cosmopolitan orientation mediated the relationship between political orientation and modern sexism and attitudes toward feminists, while SDO mediated the relationship between political orientation and modern sexism and gender-based zero-sum thinking. Our study emphasizes the important role of cosmopolitan orientation in opposing SDO and promoting a more egalitarian worldview.}, keywords = {Social dominance orientation; political ideology; sexist attitudes; Cosmopolitan orientation}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1873-6297}, orcid-numbers = {Kovács, Mónika/0000-0002-7827-3717} } @article{MTMT:34107172, title = {Beszámoló a Társadalmi változások pszichológiai indítékai és fékjei konferencia előadásairól}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34107172}, author = {Kovács, Mónika}, doi = {10.1556/2065.184.2023.7.11}, journal-iso = {MAGYAR TUDOMÁNY}, journal = {MAGYAR TUDOMÁNY}, volume = {184}, unique-id = {34107172}, issn = {0025-0325}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1588-1245}, pages = {926-939}, orcid-numbers = {Kovács, Mónika/0000-0002-7827-3717} } @article{MTMT:33557072, title = {Posttraumatic growth: Experiences of Mongolian and Hungarian survivors of intimate partner violence}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33557072}, author = {Amarsanaa, Khongorzul and Kovács, Mónika and Rácz, József}, doi = {10.1016/j.actpsy.2023.103825}, journal-iso = {ACTA PSYCHOL}, journal = {ACTA PSYCHOLOGICA}, volume = {233}, unique-id = {33557072}, issn = {0001-6918}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1873-6297}, orcid-numbers = {Kovács, Mónika/0000-0002-7827-3717; Rácz, József/0000-0003-3354-1738} } @CONFERENCE{MTMT:34131331, title = {Gender Disparities and Potentials in STEM Approach in Jordan and Saudi Arabia – An Analytical Literature Review}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34131331}, author = {Alghneimin, Jehan and Kovács, Mónika and Varga, Attila and Estrela Pereira, Adrian}, booktitle = {Proceedings of The 5th International Academic Conference on Education, Teaching and Learning}, unique-id = {34131331}, year = {2022}, pages = {-}, orcid-numbers = {Kovács, Mónika/0000-0002-7827-3717; Varga, Attila/0000-0002-0659-3551} } @{MTMT:33259551, title = {Ha meg tudod álmodni, meg tudod csinálni!.
