Maize ( Zea mays L.) is known for its sensitivity to abiotic stresses, which often causes significant yield losses. With plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), the harmful effects of drought and heat stress on plants can be alleviated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the physiological traits of plants affected by drought stress in a treatment including four PGPR bacteria, two regimes of irrigation and two stages of phenophases, and the analysis of the influence of the individual factors and their combined effects, respectively. In addition, the investigations covered the testing of the nutrient acquisition ability and nutrient use efficiency, the plant growth stimulating effect of PGPR bacteria, and the analysis of the performance trials. The largest amount of soluble orthophosphate was produced by Pseudomonas putida (51.636 µg/cm 3 ). This is significantly more than the amount of phosphate solubilized by Bacillus pumilus (15.601 µg/cm3), Pseudomonas fluorescens (14.817 µg/cm3) and Bacillus megaterium (14.621 µg/cm3). The germination vigour of the seedlings in the treatment with Pseudomonas putida was 55% higher, represented by the value of 15,237.125, in comparison with the control, with the value of 9792.188. The Pseudomonas putida treatment resulted in the most outstanding fresh/dry weight ratio (7.312) compared to the control (7.780), when the interaction between all factors was taken into account under stressed conditions at 50% female flowering stage. The highest dry matter content of the plants (18.344%) compared to the control (17.344%) was measured in the case of the Pseudomonas putida treatment during the milk stage of development under stressed conditions. In the field trial, the plants treated with KD2 ( Bacillus pumilus and Pseudomonas putida ) presented significantly higher results in the aspect of grain yield (6.278 t/ha) compared to the control (5.468 t/ha).}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1788-9170}, pages = {129-150}, orcid-numbers = {Posta, Katalin/0000-0003-2790-1741} } @article{MTMT:34159984, title = {Induction of Triticale (×Triticosecale Wittmack) In Vitro Androgenesis in Anther Cultures of F1 Hybrid Combinations, Varieties and Homogeneity Testing of Offspring Generation}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34159984}, author = {ifj. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of genotype (three registered varieties and eight F1 crossing combinations) and induction medium (W14mf and P4mf) on anther cultures (ACs) of triticale (×Triticosecale Wittmack). Androgenesis was induced in the treatment of each tested genotype, and the genotype significantly influenced the efficiency of AC, including in embryo-like structures (ELSs), albinos, green plantlets, and transplanted plantlets. The utilized medium also had a significant effect on the number of ELSs, albinos, and transplanted plantlets. Both media were suitable for AC in triticale DH plant production. The efficiency of AC was higher when using the P4mf medium (103.7 ELS/100 anthers, 19.7 green plantlets/100 anthers) than when using the W14mf medium (90.0 ELS/100 anthers, 17.0 green plantlets/100 anthers). However, the green plantlet regeneration efficiency of microspore-derived structures was 18.0% when using the W14mf medium, while this value was 15.9% in the case of ELSs induced with the P4mf medium. After nursery seed evaluation and propagation (DH1), the genetic homogeneity of the offspring generation (DH2) was tested using a molecular genetic method. Most of the tested DH lines showed homogeneity and were progressed into a breeding program after agronomic selection. Some DH lines showed inhomogeneity, which could be explained by the outcross inclination of triticale. We would like to call breeders’ attention to the outcross character of triticale and emphasize the vigilant propagation and maintenance of the triticale DH lines in breeding programs. Due to the outcross nature of triticale, even in self-pollinated genotypes, breeders should focus on careful maintenance, along with isolation in the case of line propagations, in triticale breeding programs.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {2075-1729} } @article{MTMT:34089160, title = {Microsatellite-Based Molecular Diversity in Sour Cherry Genotypes (Prunus cerasus L.) Nineteen sour cherry genotypes from the Fruit Research Institute in Érd, Hungary, were analyzed using twelve SSR primer pairs. The number of alleles ranged from two to ten, with a mean value of 4.67 per locus. The highest number of alleles was generated with BPPCT 007. All the primers displayed a polymorphic pattern. The most informative markers, based on the highest PIC values, were CPPCT022, BPPCT041, and BPPCT030. The genotypes were grouped based on flowering time, ripening time, and fruit weight. To determine the correlation, we have performed a regression analysis association with fruit traits and molecular markers. The marker PceGA025 appeared to have an allele size that statistically significantly correlates to flowering and ripening time. Also, BPPCT002, BPPCT007 and UCDCH17 have an allele that significantly correlates to ripening time. The small plot field trial consisting of untreated control plots and plots treated with biostimulants was conducted in three consecutive years (2019, 2020 and 2021). Yield is a particularly important trait from the aspect of maize breeding as well as maize production; therefore, the present study focused more closely on how it was influenced by the biostimulant treatments. The level of grain yield, grain moisture content at harvest and grain dry-matter content were observed and recorded as the components of yield. The nutritional value of kernels was also tested, and protein, oil and starch contents were analysed as the most important components of this trait. The results reflected that the treatment with biostimulants constituted from beneficial microorganisms can be listed among the factors influencing the grain yield, in addition to the seasonal effect, the genotype and the nutrient supply of the soil. The treatment with biostimulants, even on its own among the factors, had an impact on the quantity and components of yield, and on the characteristics determining the kernel nutritional value. The interaction between the genotypes and the interacting microorganisms is of specific importance. The most spectacular result was attained with the application of one of the biostimulants leading to elevated grain yield in 75% of the maize genotypes in the study, along with a kernel nutritive value equal to the control group over all of the three years of the trial.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1788-9170}, pages = {1055-1071}, orcid-numbers = {Posta, Katalin/0000-0003-2790-1741} } @article{MTMT:33681921, title = {Dual domestications and origin of traits in grapevine evolution}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33681921}, author = {Dong, Yang and Duan, Shengchang and Xia, Qiuju and Liang, Zhenchang and Dong, Xiao and Margaryan, Kristine and Musayev, Mirza and Goryslavets, Svitlana and Zdunić, Goran and Bert, Pierre-François and Lacombe, Thierry and Maul, Erika and Nick, Peter and Bitskinashvili, Kakha and Bisztray, György Dénes and Drori, Elyashiv and De Lorenzis, Gabriella and Cunha, Jorge and Popescu, Carmen Florentina and Arroyo-Garcia, Rosa and Arnold, Claire and Ergül, Ali and Zhu, Yifan and Ma, Chao and Wang, Shufen and Liu, Siqi and Tang, Liu and Wang, Chunping and Li, Dawei and Pan, Yunbing and Li, Jingxian and Yang, Ling and Li, Xuzhen and Xiang, Guisheng and Yang, Zijiang and Chen, Baozheng and Dai, Zhanwu and Wang, Yi and Arakelyan, Arsen and Kuliyev, Varis and Spotar, Gennady and Girollet, Nabil and Delrot, Serge and Ollat, Nathalie and This, Patrice and Marchal, Cécile and Sarah, Gautier and Laucou, Valérie and Bacilieri, Roberto and Röckel, Franco and Guan, Pingyin and Jung, Andreas and Riemann, Michael and Ujmajuridze, Levan and Zakalashvili, Tekle and Maghradze, David and Höhn, Mária Margit and Györffyné Jahnke, Gizella and Kiss, Erzsébet and Deák, Tamás and Rahimi, Oshrit and Hübner, Sariel and Grassi, Fabrizio and Mercati, Francesco and Sunseri, Francesco and Eiras-Dias, José and Dumitru, Anamaria Mirabela and Carrasco, David and Rodriguez-Izquierdo, Alberto and Muñoz, Gregorio and Uysal, Tamer and Özer, Cengiz and Kazan, Kemal and Xu, Meilong and Wang, Yunyue and Zhu, Shusheng and Lu, Jiang and Zhao, Maoxiang and Wang, Lei and Jiu, Songtao and Zhang, Ying and Sun, Lei and Yang, Huanming and Weiss, Ehud and Wang, Shiping and Zhu, Youyong and Li, Shaohua and Sheng, Jun and Chen, Wei}, doi = {10.1126/science.add8655}, journal-iso = {SCIENCE}, journal = {SCIENCE}, volume = {379}, unique-id = {33681921}, issn = {0036-8075}, abstract = {We elucidate grapevine evolution and domestication histories with 3525 cultivated and wild accessions worldwide. In the Pleistocene, harsh climate drove the separation of wild grape ecotypes caused by continuous habitat fragmentation. Then, domestication occurred concurrently about 11,000 years ago in Western Asia and the Caucasus to yield table and wine grapevines. The Western Asia domesticates dispersed into Europe with early farmers, introgressed with ancient wild western ecotypes, and subsequently diversified along human migration trails into muscat and unique western wine grape ancestries by the late Neolithic. Analyses of domestication traits also reveal new insights into selection for berry palatability, hermaphroditism, muscat flavor, and berry skin color.
