It is also one of the most famous fish species of Lake Balaton (Hungary), where a unique (genetically separated) pikeperch stock lives. However, until now, no detailed information was available about the pikeperch population genetic structure in Lake Balaton. In the present study, the population genetic structure of the pikeperch assemblages in the lake was revealed by using microsatellite markers. Commercial fishery and angler catch data going back more than 100 years verified that the pikeperch has always been a key element of Lake Balaton’s fish stock utilization. Results of genetic data analyses showed that the pikeperch in the Lake Balaton forms a metapopulation system, in which only the westward stocks show certain separation. Moreover, it seems that the exploitation and mass fish kills that happened in the 1960s and 1970s may have had only a slight impact on the population genetic structure of Balaton pikeperch stocks. The information about genetic features and utilization changes of pikeperch stocks can help to develop area-specific management plans and ensure the long-term survival of this carnivore fish species characteristic of Lake Balaton.}, keywords = {MICROSATELLITE; genetic bottleneck; exploitation; stocking; migration; Angling}, year = {2024}, eissn = {1573-5117}, pages = {559-571}, orcid-numbers = {Zsolnai, Attila/0000-0002-8382-1503; Takács, Péter/0000-0001-5247-7597; Molnár, Tamás Gergely/0000-0003-1752-4268} } @{MTMT:34823521, title = {Selymes durbincs (Gymnocephalus schraetser) +9 db szócikk}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34823521}, author = {Specziár, András}, booktitle = {Magyar Halkönyv}, unique-id = {34823521}, year = {2023}, pages = {167-197} } @article{MTMT:34204707, title = {Acute effects of angler’s groundbaits: nutrient flux to water column}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34204707}, author = {Fazekas, Dorottya and Antal, László and Halasi-Kovács, Béla and Kwiatkowski, Maciej and Tóth, Flórián and Specziár, András and Mozsár, Attila}, doi = {10.1038/s41598-023-44381-3}, journal-iso = {SCI REP}, journal = {SCIENTIFIC REPORTS}, volume = {13}, unique-id = {34204707}, issn = {2045-2322}, abstract = {Although ground-baiting related nutrient loading has been widely studied, we do not know what proportion of these nutrients release into the water column, afecting primary production directly. We conducted short-term (24-h, 5-day) experiments at wide temperature range, in presence and absence of fsh using fsh meal-based (FM-GB) and plant-based groundbait (PB-GB), to assess the nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) fuxes from GB into the water column. Nitrogen release from unconsumed FM-GB was negligible in the frst 3 days, then increased abruptly, releasing 32% of its total N content by the ffth day. In contrast, PB-GB acted as temporary sink for inorganic N forms. Considerable (18–21%) inorganic P release was observed in both GB types in the frst twelve hours. Consumed GBs induced considerable inorganic N release and its rate increased with temperature. Particulate forms predominated the released N in PB-GB, suggesting impaired digestion. Phosphorus—dominated by particulate forms—release was similar or lower than in unconsumed GB. Based on our results, excessive use of GB—when high amount of it remains unconsumed—can enhance eutrophication in P-limited ecosystems. Although less digestible GBs may have less abrupt efect on the primary production, undigested nutrients remain unavailable for removal through fsh harvest.}, year = {2023}, eissn = {2045-2322}, orcid-numbers = {Antal, László/0000-0001-9831-1429} } @CONFERENCE{MTMT:34192698, title = {Az intenzíven hasznosított süllő (Sander lucioperca) populációgenetikai szerkezete a Balatonban.}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34192698}, author = {Bánó, Bálint and Benedek, Ildikó and Zsolnai, Attila and Specziár, András and Takács, Péter and Molnár, Tamás}, booktitle = {LXIV. Microelement lithium was found to have promising potential against the detrimental bee pest Varroa destructor. Furthermore, its effectiveness was confirmed against Dermanyssus gallinae, a major parasite of poultry, in vitro. In the present study, we investigated whether the efficacy of lithium chloride extends to other parasitic species, such as D. reticulatus. Our results revealed, for the first time, that the effectiveness of lithium chloride extends to D. reticulatus, confirmed to have 100% mortality at a relatively high minimum concentration of 1.38 M in vitro. The 24 h and 48 h median lethal concentration (LC50) values proved to be 0.654 M and 0.481 M, respectively, for this species. Our pilot study may contribute to a better understanding of the properties of lithium ion. Furthermore, it may elicit further studies aiming to reveal whether the different environmental mineral conditions may influence the D. reticulatus population. Further studies might reveal whether lithium has any possible veterinary relevance.}, keywords = {LITHIUM; Lithium Chloride; Acaricide; biocidal effect; dog tick}, year = {2023}, eissn = {2075-4450} } @article{MTMT:33575179, title = {Effects of a nuclear power plant warmwater outflow on environmental conditions and fish assemblages in a very large river (the Danube, Hungary)}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33575179}, author = {Füstös, Vivien and Sály, Péter and Szalóky, Zoltán and Tóth, Balázs and Vitál, Zoltán and Specziár, András and Fleit, Gábor and Baranya, Sándor and Józsa, János and Erős, Tibor}, doi = {10.1002/eco.2512}, journal-iso = {ECOHYDROLOGY}, journal = {ECOHYDROLOGY}, volume = {16}, unique-id = {33575179}, issn = {1936-0584}, abstract = {Direct or indirect effects of nuclear power plants' (NPPs) warmwater effluents on the structure of biotic assemblages are poorly known in very large rivers. We examined changes in physical habitat structure, temperature condition and their possible effects on the structure of Danubian fish assemblages due to the outflow of the Paks NPP's warmwater channel, in Hungary. Seasonal surveys conducted both upstream and downstream from the outfall showed that its hydromorphological effects were generally local and comparable to natural or other anthropogenic hydromorphological changes. The effect of the returned cooling water was more apparent in the seasonally recorded surface water temperatures and depended highly on the spatial positioning of the sampling sites. However, environmental and spatial variables accounted only for a low amount of variance in case of both shoreline and offshore fish assemblage data. Overall, we found that the outflow exerted only a local scale effect on the structure of Danubian fish assemblages. Rather, fish assemblages varied largely both inshore and offshore, which dynamics overruled any effects of the artificially elevated temperature. Our study highlights the importance of the assessment of hydrogeomorphological variability of rivers and their influence on fish assemblage variability when examining spatial effects of thermal pollution.}, keywords = {SUBSTRATE; fish; Danube River; habitat use; geomorphology; thermal pollution}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1936-0592}, orcid-numbers = {Sály, Péter/0000-0002-3936-2063; Baranya, Sándor/0000-0001-5832-9683; Józsa, János/0000-0001-7119-7697} } @{MTMT:34410357, title = {Hévízi törpenövésű vadponty (Cyprinus carpio carpio morpha hungaricus) szaporodásának és szaporításának sajátosságai}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34410357}, author = {Müller, Tamás and Bógó, B. and Ferincz, Árpád and Horváth, József and Staszny, Ádám and Ivánovics , Bence and Weiperth, András and Lente, Vera and Hajnal, M. and Specziár, András}, booktitle = {A XVIII.
