AB  - The prognosis of elderly AML patients had not even been improved by using hypomethylating agents; however, synergistic effect of combining azacitidin with venetoclax had resulted in a remarkable therapeutic advance. Our goal was to study the latter treatment with a new dosing regimen in a retrospective/observational study. In our department, we analyzed the data of AML patients who were unfit for curative high‐dose treatment and accepted the medication with a fixed‐dose of azacitidin and venetoclax combination (AZA‐VEN, 100 mg sc for 7 days—100 mg per os continuously). The primary end point was the overall survival. In total, 55 AML patients received the treatment between OCT/2019‐DEC/2022. Mean age was 69.4‐year (48–84), median overall survival was 17.2‐month (95% CI, 14.3–20.10) Composite CR: (CR + CRi) 62%. Side effect CTCAE 3 or higher: neutropenia with fever: 36.4%, anemia: 29.1%, thrombocytopenia: 16.4% and nausea 20%. AZA‐VEN combination treatment of our unfit AML patients was found to be a good therapeutic option. The results achieved with significantly lower doses of the fixed dose of AZA‐VEN are comparable to the conclusions of the VIALE‐A study, and the less severe side effects we have observed are explained by the milder neutropenia of the newly introduced regimen.

AB  - Diagnostic imaging techniques provide a new aspect of the ante‐mortem and post‐mortem diagnostics in fish medicine. Ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide more information about the internal organs and pathognomic lesions. The authors used diagnostic imaging techniques to evaluate and describe the neoplastic malformation in a 3‐year‐old female rainbow trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ). The fish was examined with Siemens Somatom Definition AS + CT scanner and Siemens Biograph mMR scanner. The animal was lethargic and showed anorectic signs and muscular dystrophy. During the post‐mortem investigation, histopathology and immunohistochemistry were also performed allowing us to identify the neoplasms. The results showed a large soft tissue mass in the first mid‐intestine segment, which proved to be an adenocarcinoma. This subsequently led to digestion problems and absorption disorders. Immunohistochemically, neoplastic cells of carcinoma revealed E‐cadherin and pancytokeratin positivity. This is the first study to report the use of MRI and CT for studying gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma in rainbow trout.

AB  - Treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies makes physicians face demanding and new-fangled problems, as there are many uncertain aspects considering the outcomes of affected patients’ prognoses. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are associated with favorable long-term outcomes in carefully selected patients with peritoneal metastases (PM). We aim to summarize the current results about the initial malignancies and their peritoneal spreads. The current literature has been scrutinized, and studies between 2016 and 2022 were included wherein long-term, progression-free (PFS), and overall survival (OS) data were considered relevant information. Medline, Embase, and Google Scholar have been the main sources. Hereby, we cover all the primer malignancies: gastric, ovarian, and colorectal cancers with peritoneal metastases (PM), malignant peritoneal mesothelioma, and pseudomyxoma peritonei. Examining the advances in the current peer-reviewed literature about the indications of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), target groups, risk factors, and other influencing elements, we intend to provide a complex state-of-the-art report, establishing the relevant aspects of that emerging treatment method.
