Aromatase inhibitors (AI) are used to prevent the progression of cancer; however, a further reduction in estrogen levels may have detrimental effects on lipid levels, which was our working hypothesis. Methods: Our meta-analysis was conducted on the lipid profiles of postmenopausal breast cancer patients at baseline and at different treatment time points. Results: We identified 15 studies, including 1708 patients. Studies using anastrozole (ANA), exemestane (EXE), letrozole (LET), and tamoxifen (TMX) were involved. Subgroup analyses revealed that 3- and 12-month administrations of LET and EXE lead to negative changes in lipid profiles that tend to alter the lipid profile undesirably, unlike ANA and TMX. Conclusions: Our results suggest that, despite statistically significant results, EXE and LET may not be sufficient to cause severe dyslipidemia in patients without cardiovascular comorbidities according to the AHA/ACC Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol. However, the results may raise the question of monitoring the effects of AIs in patients, especially those with pre-existing cardiovascular risk factors such as dyslipidemia. We aimed to characterize the relationship and time dependency of microcirculatory and mitochondrial functions in a rodent model of intraabdominal sepsis. Fecal peritonitis was induced in rats, and multi-organ failure (MOF) was evaluated 12, 16, 20, 24 or 28 h later (n = 8/group, each) using rat-specific organ failure assessment (ROFA) scores. Ileal microcirculation (proportion of perfused microvessels (PPV), microvascular flow index (MFI) and heterogeneity index (HI)) was monitored by intravital video microscopy, and mitochondrial respiration (OxPhos) and outer membrane (mtOM) damage were measured with high-resolution respirometry. MOF progression was evidenced by increased ROFA scores; microcirculatory parameters followed a parallel time course from the 16th to 28th h. Mitochondrial dysfunction commenced with a 4-h time lag with signs of mtOM damage, which correlated significantly with PPV, while no correlation was found between HI and OxPhos. High diagnostic value was demonstrated for PPV, mtOM damage and lactate levels for predicting MOF. Our findings indicate insufficient splanchnic microcirculation to be a possible predictor for MOF that develops before the start of mitochondrial dysfunction. The adequate subcellular compensatory capacity suggests the presence of mitochondrial subpopulations with differing sensitivity to septic insults. This acupuncture-like effect was demonstrated when the fibres began to grow after complete fibre degradation, synchronous inflammation, myoblast and myotube formation. Neonatal sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum ATPase (SERCA1b) was first detected in this system. The neonatal, fast and slow SERCA isoforms displayed consequent changes with innervation and differentiation, recapitulating events in muscle development. In vivo transfection of myotubes with plasmids expressing dominant negative Ras or a calcineurin inhibitor peptide (Cain/cabin) proved that expression of the slow myosin heavy chain and the slow muscle type SERCA2a are differentially regulated. In vivo transfection of a few nuclei of myotubes with dnRas or SERCA1b shRNA stimulated fibre size growth in the whole regenerating muscle but only until the full size had been reached. Growth stimulation by Ras and SERCA1b antisense was abolished by co-transfection of Cain or with perimuscular injection of IL4 antibody. This revealed a novel signalling network resembling scale-free networks which, starting from transfected fibre myonuclei as “hubs”, can amplify growth stimulation uniformly in the entire regenerating muscle. Mivel a szemlencse és a beültetett műlencse dőlése között összefüggés mutatkozik, felmerül annak lehetősége, hogy a preoperatív lencsedőlést figyelembe vegyük tórikus műlencse tervezése során. Tekintettel arra, hogy a rendelkezésünkre álló elülső szegmens képalkotó eszköz (Anterion, Heidelberg Engineering) a lencse dőlését nem méri, a paraméter számolását egy általunk írt számítógépes program segítségével valósítottuk meg. Módszer: Az Anterion „Metrics” alkalmazása által készített, exportált 6 darab radier, 30° szögeltéréssel készített OCT felvétel alapján a Python nyelven írt script az egyes felvételeken meghatározza az adott lencsesík dőlését, majd ezekből számolja a lencsedőlést és annak irányát. Előkísérleteink alapján az elülső szegmens analízis a lencsedőlés számolásával további paramétert szolgáltathat a lencsetervezéshez. Habár a lencse dőléséből fakadó asztigmia az esetek túlnyomó részében csekély mértékű, ám figyelembevétele hozzájárulhat a tórikus műlencsetervezés sikeréhez. Introduction: Among other optical aberrations, lens tilt induces astigmatism as well. Based on literature data demonstrating the relationship between the lens and IOL tilts, we regard lens tilt as a potential parameter for toric IOL calculation. Considering that our anterior segment analyzer, Anterion does not calculate lens tilt, we developed a computer programme for tilt determination. Method: The six radial images captured with a 30-degree shift by the “Metrics” application of Anterion are exported to a computer. The Python script analyses the individual images, determines their respective tilts, and calculates the lens tilt and its direction. Based on our pilot study, the anterior segment analysis, revealing lens tilt, may serve as a potential new parameter for IOL calculation. However, lens tilt-based astigmatic aberration is not significant in the majority of cases, but it may allow us to improve toric IOL calculation. Since it is an invasive method, it is desirable to use an alternative, noninvasive technique. The computerized real-time invasive cerebral blood flow (CBF) autoregulation (AR) monitoring calculates the status of CBF AR, called the pressure reactivity index (PRx). Studies documented that the electrical impedance of the head (Rheoencephalography – REG) can detect the status of CBF AR (REGx) and ICP noninvasively. We aimed to test REG to reflect ICP and CBF AR.
