Using a previously reported collection of FRT-bearing P-element insertions, we have generated 655 new deletions and verified a set of 209 deletion-bearing fly stocks. In addition to deletions, we demonstrate how the P elements may also be used to generate a set of custom inversions and duplications, particularly useful for balancing difficult regions of the genome carrying haplo-insufficient loci. We describe a simple computational resource that facilitates selection of appropriate elements for generating custom deletions. Finally, we provide a computational resource that facilitates selection of other mapped FRT-bearing elements that, when combined with the DrosDel collection, can theoretically generate over half a million precisely mapped deletions.}, year = {2007}, eissn = {1943-2631}, pages = {615-629} } @article{MTMT:1921708, title = {The DrosDel collection: A set of P-element insertions for generating custom chromosomal aberrations in Drosophila melanogaster}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/1921708}, author = {Ryder, E and Blows, F and Ashburner, M and Bautista-Llacer, R and Coulson, D and Drummond, J and Webster, J and Gubb, D and Gunton, N and Johnson, G and O, Kane CJ and Huen, D and Sharma, P and Asztalos, Zoltán Imre and Baisch, H and Schulze, J and Kube, M and Kittlaus, K and Reuter, G and Maróy, Péter and Szidonya, János and Rasmuson-Lestander, A and Ekstrom, K and Dickson, B and Hugentobler, C and Stocker, H and Hafen, E and Lepesant, JA and Pflugfelder, G and Heisenberg, M and Mechler, B and Serras, F and Corominas, M and Schneuwly, S and Preat, T and Roote, J and Russell, S}, doi = {10.1534/genetics.104.026658}, journal-iso = {GENETICS}, journal = {GENETICS}, volume = {167}, unique-id = {1921708}, issn = {0016-6731}, abstract = {We describe a collection of P-element insertions that have considerable utility for generating custom chromosomal aberrations in Drosophila melanogaster. We have mobilized a pair of engineered P elements, p{RS3} and p{RS5}, to collect 3243 lines unambiguously mapped to the Drosophila genome sequence. The collection contains, on average, an element every 35 kb. We demonstrate the utility of the collection for generating custom chromosomal deletions that have their end points mapped, with base-pair resolution, to the genome sequence. The collection was generated in an isogenic strain, thus affording a uniform background for screens where sensitivity to genetic background is high. The entire collection, along with a computational and genetic toolbox for designing and generating custom deletions, is publicly available. Using the collection it is theoretically possible to generate >12,000 deletions between 1 bp and 1 Mb in size by simple eye color selection. In addition, a further 37,000 deletions, selectable by molecular screening, may be generated. We are now rising the collection to generate a second-generation deficiency kit that is precisely mapped to the genome sequence.}, year = {2004}, eissn = {1943-2631}, pages = {797-813} } @article{MTMT:1912173, title = {P-element insertion alleles of essential genes on the third chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster: Correlation of physical and cytogenetic maps in chromosomal region 86E-87F}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/1912173}, author = {Deák, Péter and Omar, MM and Saunders, RDC and Pál, Margit and Komonyi, O and Szidonya, János and Maróy, Péter and Zhang, Y and Ashburner, M and more}, journal-iso = {GENETICS}, journal = {GENETICS}, volume = {147}, unique-id = {1912173}, issn = {0016-6731}, year = {1997}, eissn = {1943-2631}, pages = {1697-1722} } @article{MTMT:1722630, title = {P-TRANSPOSON-INDUCED DOMINANT ENHANCER MUTATIONS OF POSITION-EFFECT VARIEGATION IN DROSOPHILA-MELANOGASTER}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/1722630}, author = {DORN, R and Szidonya, János and KORGE, G and SEHNERT, M and TAUBERT, H and ARCHOUKIEH, E and TSCHIERSCH, B and MORAWIETZ, H and WUSTMANN, G and Hoffmann, Gyula and REUTER, G}, doi = {10.1093/genetics/133.2.279}, journal-iso = {GENETICS}, journal = {GENETICS}, volume = {133}, unique-id = {1722630}, issn = {0016-6731}, abstract = {P transposon induced modifier mutations of position-effect variegation (PEV) were isolated with the help of hybrid dysgenic crosses (pi2 strain) and after transposition of the mutator elements pUChsneory+ and P[lArB]. Enhancer mutations were found with a ten times higher frequency than suppressors. The 19 pUChsneory+- and 15 P[lArB]-induced enhancer mutations can be used for cloning of genomic sequences at the insertion sites of the mutator elements via plasmid rescue. Together with a large sample of X-ray-induced (48) and spontaneous (93) enhancer mutations a basic genetic analysis of this group of modifier genes was performed. On the basis of complementation and mapping data we estimate the number of enhancer genes at about 30 in the third chromosome and between 50 and 60 for the whole autosome complement. Therefore, enhancer of PEV loci are found in the Drosophila genome as frequently as suppressor genes. Many of the enhancer mutations display paternal effects consistent with the hypothesis that some of these mutations can induce genomic imprinting. First studies on the developmentally regulated gene expression of PEV enhancer genes were performed by beta-galactosidase staining in P[lArB] induced mutations.}, keywords = {GENE; REGION; MUTANTS; TRANSFORMATION; MODIFIERS; suppressor; Cytogenetic Analysis; HETEROCHROMATIN; 3RD CHROMOSOME; CHROMOSOMAL PROTEIN}, year = {1993}, eissn = {1943-2631}, pages = {279-290}, orcid-numbers = {Hoffmann, Gyula/0000-0002-2206-6997} } @article{MTMT:1903889, title = {The fatty acid constitution and ordering state of membranes in dominant temperature sensitive letal mutation and wild type Drosophila melanogaster larvae.}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/1903889}, author = {Szidonya, János and Farkas, Tibor and Páli, Tibor}, doi = {10.1007/BF02401414}, journal-iso = {BIOCHEM GENET}, journal = {BIOCHEMICAL GENETICS}, volume = {28}, unique-id = {1903889}, issn = {0006-2928}, year = {1990}, eissn = {1573-4927}, pages = {233-246}, orcid-numbers = {Páli, Tibor/0000-0003-1649-1097} } @article{MTMT:1903645, title = {The genetics of position-effect variegation modifying loci in Drosophila melanogaster.}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/1903645}, author = {WUSTMANN, G and Szidonya, János and REUTER, G}, doi = {10.1007/BF02464926}, journal-iso = {MOL GEN GENET}, journal = {MOLECULAR & GENERAL GENETICS}, volume = {217}, unique-id = {1903645}, issn = {0026-8925}, year = {1989}, eissn = {1432-1874}, pages = {520-527} } @article{MTMT:1722696, title = {ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF DOMINANT FEMALE STERILE MUTATIONS OF DROSOPHILA-MELANOGASTER .2.
