The liberal government after 1867 seldom dreamed of installing censorship; they rather developed more sophisticated, indirect methods to influence the press. However, the government tried to suppress the agrarian movements in early 1898, among other measures, through forbidding the circulation of subversive texts. Most political forces, including the government, emphasized that every kind of censorship was unacceptable, and the freedom of the press continued to be respected. The press, nevertheless, reacted very harshly to the actual restriction. The journalism of Kalman Mikszath, who was also a governing party MP but never practiced partisanship in writing, serves as the main example. Although he did not feel much sympathy with the rebelling rural population, he fiercely opposed any restriction on the freedom of the press.}, keywords = {Liberalism; Freedom of the press; Revolutions of 1848; Agrarian socialism; Mikszath}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1588-2810}, pages = {603-612}, orcid-numbers = {Hajdu, Péter/0000-0002-3623-1578} } @article{MTMT:34432752, title = {Introduction: The fifty-year history of Neohelicon, Acta Comparationis Litterarum Universarum, and beyond}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34432752}, author = {Hajdu, Péter and Pál, József}, doi = {10.1007/s11059-023-00721-w}, journal-iso = {NEOHELICON}, journal = {NEOHELICON}, volume = {50}, unique-id = {34432752}, issn = {0324-4652}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1588-2810}, pages = {413-422}, orcid-numbers = {Hajdu, Péter/0000-0002-3623-1578} } @article{MTMT:34179900, title = {National peculiarities in approaching the Classics: The case of Catullus with Hungarian modernism}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34179900}, author = {Hajdu, Péter}, journal-iso = {WORLD LITER STUD}, journal = {WORLD LITERATURE STUDIES}, volume = {14}, unique-id = {34179900}, issn = {1337-9275}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1337-9690}, pages = {4-12}, orcid-numbers = {Hajdu, Péter/0000-0002-3623-1578} } @article{MTMT:34179899, title = {World literature and national literature}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/34179899}, author = {Hajdu, Péter}, journal-iso = {WORLD LITER STUD}, journal = {WORLD LITERATURE STUDIES}, volume = {15}, unique-id = {34179899}, issn = {1337-9275}, year = {2023}, eissn = {1337-9690}, pages = {2-3}, orcid-numbers = {Hajdu, Péter/0000-0002-3623-1578} } @misc{MTMT:34179035, title = {World Literature Studies, 2023(3).
