Studies show that invasive species exhibit allelopathy, influencing other plants by releasing chemicals. Research on allelopathy uses in vitro tests, investigating effects on seed germination and seedling development. Although soil plays a role in modifying allelopathic effects, observations with soil are rare and almost nothing is known about the root development of test plants developing in soil and the effects of allelopathic compounds on root architecture. Our study evaluates the allelopathic effects of false indigo-bush (Amorpha fruticosa L.) and common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca L.) on oilseed rape growth as a model plant. The rhizotron system was used to study the effect of morphology and root architecture. Leaf–soil mixtures at 0.5%, 1%, and 5% concentrations were used. Shoot and root development was strongly inhibited at 5%. But there was no difference between the allelopathy of the two species, and the application of lower concentrations did not show any effect, demonstrating that soil has a significant modifying effect on their allelopathy. Our results highlight that the development of roots growing in the soil is also worth investigating in connection with allelopathy, which can strengthen the ecological importance of allelochemicals during successful invasions.}, year = {2024}, eissn = {2075-1729}, orcid-numbers = {Bakacsy, László/0000-0003-2593-1795; Vasas, Andrea/0000-0002-1818-7702; Feigl, Gábor/0000-0001-6524-9147} } @CONFERENCE{MTMT:33963376, title = {Isolation and structure determination of compounds from Juncus species}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33963376}, author = {Barta, Anita and Petz, Petra and Stefkó, Dóra and Purger, Dragica and Bakacsy, László and Hohmann, Judit and Vasas, Andrea}, booktitle = {4th Symposium of Young Researchers on Pharmacognosy}, doi = {10.14232/syrmpnpr.2023.3}, unique-id = {33963376}, year = {2023}, pages = {9-9}, orcid-numbers = {Stefkó, Dóra/0000-0002-5435-546X; Purger, Dragica/0000-0003-2480-0777; Bakacsy, László/0000-0003-2593-1795; Hohmann, Judit/0000-0002-2887-6392; Vasas, Andrea/0000-0002-1818-7702} } @CONFERENCE{MTMT:33963414, title = {Phytochemical investigation of a Hungarian sedge, Carex morrowii}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33963414}, author = {Dávid, Csilla Zsuzsanna and Juhász, András and Kúsz, Norbert and Hohmann, Judit and Vasas, Andrea}, booktitle = {4th Symposium of Young Researchers on Pharmacognosy}, doi = {10.14232/syrmpnpr.2023.5}, unique-id = {33963414}, year = {2023}, pages = {11-11}, orcid-numbers = {Kúsz, Norbert/0000-0002-9973-6442; Hohmann, Judit/0000-0002-2887-6392; Vasas, Andrea/0000-0002-1818-7702} } @article{MTMT:33708328, title = {Isolation and NMR Scaling Factors for the Structure Determination of Lobatolide H, a Flexible Sesquiterpene from Neurolaena lobata}, url = {https://m2.mtmt.hu/api/publication/33708328}, author = {Kovács, Tibor and Lajter, Ildikó and Kúsz, Norbert and Schelz, Zsuzsanna and Bózsity-Faragó, Noémi and Borbás, Anikó and Zupkó, István and Krupitza, Georg and Frisch, Richard and Hohmann, Judit and Vasas, Andrea and Mándi, Attila}, doi = {10.3390/ijms24065841}, journal-iso = {INT J MOL SCI}, journal = {INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR SCIENCES}, volume = {24}, unique-id = {33708328}, issn = {1661-6596}, abstract = {A new flexible germacranolide (1, lobatolide H) was isolated from the aerial parts of Neurolaena lobata. Effusol and juncusol are the most investigated compounds reported to have antimicrobial and anticancer effects; however, to date, their effects on higher plants have not been investigated. In this study, we examined the effects of effusol and juncusol on the growth and other biochemical parameters of the dicot model plant Arabidopsis thaliana in a concentration-dependent manner with a focus on polyamine metabolism. Phenanthrene induced toxic effects on plant growth and development, while effusol and juncusol induced higher biomass and maintained antioxidant defence mechanisms associated with reduced polyamine degradation.
