The construction industry faces growing pressure to implement technologies to address the labor shortage hurdle. Despite the emerging construction technology market, organizations struggle to implement these diverse technologies rapidly. This study uses a qualitative research methodology to explore the technology implementation processes and the challenges faced by construction firms in technology adoption in the United States. The research revealed that most participants faced challenges in process development and change management, behavioral resistance, education and skills development, and cybersecurity during technology implementation. The empirical findings in this study provide a new understanding of Construction 4.0 technology implementation process activities and their associated challenges. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
