This paper presents the findings of research on digital transformation performed among Hungarian companies in the first half of 2024. The research indicates that the transformative role of digital technologies is slightly stronger than medium, while the results of digital transformation are starting to pay off. The survey found a significant difference in how the business and IT sides of each organisation perceived the role of digital technologies. The most popular current and near-future developments are cloud, mobile, and AI projects. Analysis of the relationship between business and IT strategy reveals the trend that IT is increasingly moving from a partner role to an executor role. Organisations face several challenges: The scarcity of transformation resources, the availability of appropriate expertise, and challenges related to organisational data assets. The research also explored the most challenging skills gaps (artificial intelligence, cybersecurity). © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
